This is so beautiful! I wanna do something like this but I fear the hard work would be ruined in the wash??

Came here to ask this! How does it hold up? I’m guessing you hand wash those jeans now or what?

Ahah good question, I think I'm going to naively hope it will be fine! But I'm planning to iron on some interfacing on the back this afternoon and wash them inside out maybe?

Ooh, that’s the design-style I was considering doing with the hem of my trousers! It’s so cute!🥰

Amazing, feel free to copy/be inspired by it for your trousers! It will look so cute on the hem! :)

How did you learn? Looking to try this on somethings but don’t know where to start

Honestly I'm not sure! I think because I do quite a bit of sewing, the skills for embroidery are quite transferable? I had also made a little embroidery reference hoop with loads of different stitches, which was really helpful as I'd have a look at what stitch I fancied and add it :)

That’s helpful! Thank you! I might get one of those kits they sell at a craft store and start from there

That's a great idea, I'm sure you will smash it. Just remember creativity doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be yours and that's enough <3

wow 😍💐 you're so skilled! do you have any photos of the before?

u/Cheese_Whisperer_ Feb 08 '25

Thank you :) I forgot to take a photo of the hole beforehand, this photo is the best I can do! The hole was about the size of my thumb, because of my phone wearing it down!

(I tried to edit my post to include the photo, but I'm not very techy and I can't figure out how to do it!)

seeing the hole makes it all the more impressive 🤯 that's a really sizeable hole and I can't even detect it under the embroidery, your work is inspiring 🤩

Yeeeah, I'd been putting it off for a while, so it kept getting bigger! Aww thank you, it's hidden under the big yellow flower!

Perfection

Really nice work. This might be a dumb question but is this embroidery to cover the whole? And/or do you patch the whole and then embroider on top of the patch?

3

u/Cheese_Whisperer_ Feb 08 '25

No worries at all, yeah the hole was the size of my thumb! I put a square of fabric under the hole and found a YT video that showed how to mend a hole with a flower pattern, then added other bits to make it less obvious.

3

u/whywontyousleep Feb 08 '25

Ok. Cool so there is a patch but it’s underneath and just has embroidery on top. Was the patch material color the same as the pants to help it blend in or completely different?

3

u/Cheese_Whisperer_ Feb 08 '25

Yeah, I just used some spare fabric regardless of the colour as the flower covered it up. But I did choose a thick cotton as it would better match denim fabric and hopefully wouldn't break as quickly!

Here is the Youtube video I followed (I just had to size up the flower lol), if you're interested in copying :)

4

u/Cheese_Whisperer_ Feb 08 '25

Absolutely, it's made me want to find new holes to mend! :D

2

u/bodhiseppuku Feb 09 '25

Did you do this by hand or with a programmable embroidery machine? My mom just bought a $25k machine that could do this in a few minutes.

2

u/Cheese_Whisperer_ Feb 09 '25

Just by hand, but it took me about a week adding more bits whenever I had time in the evening! Gosh, that machine sounds amazing!! :)

2

u/bodhiseppuku Feb 09 '25

Even cooler when you have the skill and have put in the time to do this by hand. Truly excellent!

2

u/Cheese_Whisperer_ Feb 09 '25

Aww thank you :)
