SASHIKO a crotch/butt repair on my partners favorite pants

not the neatest but I consider it a success! I used a black patch on the inside and cotton craft thread to reinforce the area with freehand sashiko style stitching

sorry but it looks like the crotch in those pants just got shaved a week ago and it's growing back

5 o’clock shadow of the gooch

the way I almost used a piece of red denim for the patch too 🫣

Missed opportunity, next time.😔

I once patched a crotch blowout with a cherry-patterned piece of fabric and did not realize my mistake until someone pointed it out to me.

4

u/Old-Construction-719 Feb 25 '25

Me too except it was a teacher in high school! lol

6

u/darkviolet_ Feb 25 '25

Omg that reminds me, one time in high school, I had another crotch blowout and tied my hoodie around my waist until I got to my home ec class, where I had an almost-finished skirt. I ended up putting on the skirt temporarily so I could fix the hole. Good thing it was only my fourth period class!

I have a problem with wearing pants far too much to the point where the friction wears away the crotches. Fat thighs plus autism that makes me very picky about clothing textures will equal my clothes falling apart sooner than those with a more varied wardrobe…

"excuse me, sir, your tampon is leaking"

I see ants.

u/Jobediah Feb 24 '25

If you see ants near your butt you might want to talk to a gasteroentomologist

u/chaoticswiss Feb 25 '25

The kind of doctor that's an expert on stomach bugs

Ants in the pants coming through, after all these years.

11

u/rustymontenegro Feb 24 '25

💀

Oh no now I can't unsee it.

10

u/emmmmk Feb 24 '25

Or a bunch of ants/bugs—gives me the heebie jeebies a little bit

I heard stick deodorant can help with ingrown hairs

551

u/MiraculousN Feb 24 '25

Love the mend, I think you should have used Grey though. Somebody is going to do a double take.

26

u/flannelWX Feb 25 '25

I’m not sure, sometimes using a color that’s close but just a bit off is almost more eye catching. Maybe a bright or fun color that’s clearly decoration? I bet a variegated rainbow type color would look great on the grey

6

u/Gloomy_Industry8841 Feb 25 '25

It’s the uncanny valley of mending when the colours almost match!

I think the reason this is so jarring for people (although you really did a great job!) is the color contrast, yes, but also the fact that it's so isolated and centralized. It's like a crotch bullseye.

I think if you did some decorative stitching in some spots nearby (back of one thigh, front of the other thigh, pocket, etc) it would look 100% more intentional and won't draw the eye immediately to the crotch.

Just my two cents though.

Edit to add a photo example of a crotch repair I did with white on denim (neither spot on the leg was a repair)

There's repairs on the back too but they're in a nearly invisible blue thread.

126

u/chipotle_is_bae Feb 24 '25

this is genuinely helpful, ty! I'll add some decorative areas

44

u/rustymontenegro Feb 24 '25

You're welcome! The first fix (especially on a crotch or butt) can be pretty visible but by the time they're Theseus pants it all blends into a gorgeous patchwork.

u/Altruistic-Bee8569 Feb 28 '25

Love the idea of adding more to the pockets especially. FWIW I think it looks great!!

8

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '25

I like this idea!

13

u/Abi_giggles Feb 25 '25

I am going to be completely honest with you , I would still be very distracted by the crotch artwork. It would make me think the person was intentionally trying to bring attention to their crotch.

551

u/virulentbunny Feb 24 '25

i will never understand why so many people decide the crotch is where they wanna practice their most visible mending T.T it looks sturdy tho lol

33

u/flannelWX Feb 25 '25

For me the crotch is always the spot that wears out, never the knees or random spots on the legs. May just be that it’s what needs mending.

8

u/asifIknewwhattodo Feb 25 '25

Lol I'm guilty of this 😆

I guess crotch area actually don't get so looked at much - you know, not in close proximity anyway - so even though the mend looks like a colony of ants (no hate, op), once you actually wear it, it's more or less hidden.

58

u/Ben01pr Feb 24 '25

Ants on the pants!

52

u/gunplagoose Feb 24 '25

This is a bold choice... I would add more all over the rest of the plants so it blends in

141

u/moldyhorror Feb 24 '25

If I quickly looked at their butt I would think it’s pewp 😔

34

u/CoeurDeSirene Feb 24 '25

What do yall have against using similar color thread to fabric lol

18

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '25

Well this is visible mending lol but yeah I would have chosen white or grey.

6

u/CoeurDeSirene Feb 25 '25

lol I know but this is an interest choice for visibility

2

u/knittymess Feb 26 '25

Yeah. But... visible doesn't have to necessarily mean eye catching. My inner thigh darns are visible and pretty, but of a similar color. I just dont need someone staring at my crotch trying to figure out what's going on with my pants and

I'm sure the folks around me don't want to try to figure out if I have ants on my crotch or if they have to tell me I bled through my pants just to find out neither is true. It's a lot to put on every social interaction at the grocery store and requires a lot of extra crotch staring.

2

u/[deleted] 27d ago

Lol yeah I would definitely do white or grey but maybe they don't mind a little extra crotch staring from strangers lol

2

u/knittymess 20d ago

That got a real cackle out of me. Not a kink I'm into, but I guess I won't shame!

u/whywontyousleep Feb 24 '25

Is it frowned upon to suggest just letting these go? I’m all for reusing, repurposing and fixing but this is a little far isn’t it? And no I’m not trying to yuck anyone’s yum. I just think sometimes it’s okay to say “that’ll do pig. That’ll do.” And let them pants go.

50

u/sudosussudio Feb 24 '25

I stopped mending jeans crotches after I did a really labor intensive invisible repair on my boyfriend’s pair and he still had a crotch blowout. Denim and jeans hardware is great for patching other clothes and other types of crafts so I usually just disassemble crotch damaged jeans now.

30

u/SilverFishK Feb 24 '25

I was wondering if a gusset would help change the shape of the crotch so it chafes less.  If so,  they haven't gone far enough with her mending lol.

14

u/KittyBiscuitsForSale Feb 24 '25

I've had crotch mends on jeans last for years, so I think it's definitely worth the work.

33

u/rustymontenegro Feb 24 '25

In this sub? Probably. The point is to mend, and since so much of the pants material is still in good shape, and they are the person's favorite pair, it's a shame not to try to mend them first, before tossing them in the scrap scavenger pile. The color choice is iffy but I think the actual mend is fine.

5

u/sherberternie Feb 24 '25

The elastic in the fabric is all stretched out too. These are goners

2

u/nivaine_ Feb 25 '25

Counterpoint: it's a good opportunity to practice on a low stakes item that you might end up tossing anyway!

1

u/Feeling-Visit1472 Feb 25 '25

Yea, they’re also already dying in other areas, you can see the puckering (usually from putting synthetic stretch denim in the dryers.

21

u/Tasty-Pineapple- Feb 24 '25

I thought these were holes for venting.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '25

Gotta keep it aired out!

22

u/CoasterThot Feb 24 '25

Everyone is going to be double-taking to take a second look at his gooch, just a heads up.

20

u/flockyboi Feb 24 '25

Hm.. maybe a lighter or less neutral color might work..

16

u/Tequila_Sunrise_1022 Feb 24 '25

Black was a choice!!!

12

u/thebrow1 Feb 24 '25

Do you have a pic of the inside? I’m trying to get the best idea for the shape of a patch for mine.

10

u/VolumeBubbly9140 Feb 24 '25

Looking for ideas to deal with thigh wear on my jeans. Not sure this is one, but would like to hear how these feel after a day of wear.

6

u/HexManiacMarie Feb 24 '25

I'm curious about this, too. Chaffing is such a pain, but I feel like this would make it worse instead of better? You're creating a texture with the thread that's pretty thick... I'm not positive this is a net gain for the longevity of the pants in that aspect, but I could be totally wrong. I'm still new at mending projects.

4

u/GimmeQueso Feb 24 '25

Mine is rather specific but I only like the way shorts fit my legs if they’re skinny jeans turned into cut offs. I save the extra fabric and use them to patch when my hub rub gets the best of me. Since I have thick thighs, no one can really tell there’s a patch. Works very well and extends the life of my pants quite a while.

1

u/scatteringashes Feb 24 '25

Not OP but I did a similar thing in the same spot on several pairs of my husband's jeans about a month ago -- patch on the inside, extra stitching over the holes and around the patch to hold everything together. So far he said sometimes he notices that it's a little bulkier in that spot, but they've held up well and it hasn't caused him any irritation. That said, his holes are definitely up in the crotch more than the thighs, so it might be a different ballgame on the thighs.

18

u/internet-nomadic Feb 24 '25

Shave the pantussy

1

u/MaleficentMousse7473 Feb 25 '25

Thank you glad it wasn’t only my eyes 👀

7

u/lineworksboston Feb 24 '25

I hope they wear boxers because I wouldn't want that gauge thread rubbing up against my heinee.

7

u/swamp_citizen Feb 24 '25

When I had a similar issue I dyed my jeans a more intense black color and then sewed two parts of the hole together, trying to blend it with threads

5

u/floralgin Feb 25 '25

Don't worry OP I did this exact mend on a pair of jeans last time. I laughed it off and it was good practice, but this time I change the pattern and colors and am really happy with the results this time !

2

u/eachdayalittlebetter Feb 25 '25

Why did you use pink? Not judging, just wondering.

my first thought would be to use a light blue or gray and avoid anything brown, yellow, or red near the crotch

3

u/floralgin Feb 26 '25

These are my skateboarding pants. Wanted something more fun then grey.

6

u/SwimmingCoyote Feb 25 '25

Didn’t expect to have my trypophobia triggered in this sub

5

u/flannelWX Feb 25 '25

All of the ant comments just made me think - if adding a little extra stitching to make it appear more decorative, you could do a couple of little ant shapes on the pockets. Like a fun little play on ants in the pants

3

u/Advanced_Finance_427 Feb 24 '25

I've done this exact mend for my partners shorts 🤦

3

u/letsgetpunk Feb 25 '25

Sesame seed buns?

2

u/footballsandy Feb 25 '25

He's got ants on his pants!

4

u/euphoriclamb Feb 24 '25

Ants in my pants!

4

u/madhatter024 Feb 24 '25

i think it looks good!! i’ve visibly mended a few crotch/thigh areas in my time and from my experience nobody’s noticed unless i’ve shown them. i don’t really care anyways but in case u do people pay a lot more attention to their own clothes than those around them. it’s possible that it will chafe more and you’ll have to re-do it/reinforce it but it will definitely add a little more life to a loved article of clothing!

8

u/seymourbutts510 Feb 24 '25

Gotta agree with you here- I've mended more pairs of mine and my partner's pants than I probably should have, mostly crotch/chub rub, and unless you have a huge thigh gap or manspread 24/7, it's kinda tucked away for the most part. I think if I saw someone wearing those pants out in public, I wouldn't be able to see the mending unless I was behind them going upstairs or something, and if I did see it, I'd mind my business like I hope people do for me when they see the lime green thread holding the crotch of my jeans together 😂

0

u/katiem1236 Feb 24 '25

Why do you want people looking at your partner's genital area? It looks strange and kinda gross tbh.

0

u/JugsJudy93 Feb 26 '25

this makes me itchy i’m so sorry 😭

u/Unwilling_Jellyfish Feb 25 '25

cringe. just....no.
