That’s really cool - can I ask what speed loom that is?

107

u/Sea_Solution_9837 Mar 04 '25

With a larger platform

52

u/3jake Mar 04 '25

Oh cool! I never thought about getting a different platform, I’ll have to see if I can find one for mine, thanks!

This is FANTASTIC!! I’m new to visible mending in general but these are the posts that inspire me :)

u/Forsaken-Estate4041 Mar 04 '25

Same! I dipped my toe into sashiko style visible mending and am still learning that. Seeing posts like this make me want to learn ALL THE TECHNIQUES

u/Nimindir Mar 04 '25

Dang, I gotta get me one of those looms.

23

u/sinornithosaurus1000 Mar 04 '25

Just make one! It’s a very basic tool

40

u/shiftygripz Mar 04 '25

Do you have more information on how to go about DIYing one of these??

45

u/sinornithosaurus1000 Mar 05 '25

https://www.simplyhandmadestudios.com/blog/the-loom-how-to-make-a-weaving-loom

This site even has you make your own frame, for an easier time, just use an old wood picture frame.

19

u/Nimindir Mar 05 '25

But that's just a regular loom, not a darning loom? I've already made regular looms, I don't need more.

u/rabbit7891 Mar 06 '25

i think you could probably fasten paperclips and use the side with the longer wire to act as the piece catching the thread at the top of the loom. no idea how youd be able to shift it like i see some speed weavers doing

I just went down the rabbit hole and found this https://www.instagram.com/p/CNLXyBMsJwL/?igsh=YzljYTk1ODg3Zg==

I think you can imagine making something like this with paperclips. I don't think you'd even need to bend them. Imagine two strips of fabric, sew vertical lines like in the photo, run paperclips through.

Or maybe coiless safety pins or calabash pins (which are often used for stitch markers).

Thank you!!

Mind blown, this is gorgeous!

u/evilhasheroes Mar 04 '25

This should be tagged NSFW because this is pornography.

6

u/fridayimatwork Mar 04 '25

It’s sexyyyy

69

u/QuietVariety6089 Mar 04 '25

It's really pretty, but some of those stitches are LO_ONG - I'd be worried about snagging them?

61

u/Sea_Solution_9837 Mar 04 '25

So far, so good. You make a good point. I'm also curious how they will behave in operation.

30

u/QuietVariety6089 Mar 04 '25

I'd be careful when washing too - def turn them inside out :)

20

u/Sea_Solution_9837 Mar 04 '25

I'll keep an eye on it.

12

u/FarcicalTeeth Mar 05 '25

You could tack them in place from the back by just picking up a couple threads at a time, like invisible hemming

26

u/whomatterwontmind Mar 04 '25

That is Art.....

41

u/sir-faxalot Mar 04 '25

This is insane! Is there a pattern you used that you can share with us?

96

u/Sea_Solution_9837 Mar 04 '25

This

10

u/GuineaFowlItch Mar 05 '25

I have a similar mini loom. Could you explain how to use this (or any) pattern? What’s the process?

14

u/Sea_Solution_9837 Mar 05 '25

I'll try to make a video. There's some on YouTube.

1

u/Ollieoxenfreezer Mar 06 '25

Could you suggest some videos?

17

u/somuchbitch Mar 04 '25

I'm entirely new to mending in general (I've done one darn by hand and so far it's made it through two wears!) there seems to be many many techniques and different stitches it makes my head spin.

How do you secure the ends in the loom loops to the fabric? Like based on the picture it looks like the weave would be attached only at the bottom and would flop around. Do you stitch each loop into the fabric afterwards? Do you stitch the blue threads to the fabric before weaving? Does this look come with Instructions?

28

u/reixxy Mar 04 '25

Ok so for the vertical threads they are secured at the bottom and the top are loops attached to the speed weave. Then you add the horizontal threads which are secured on both sides, so now you have basically a |_| but the top is still open right? So when you're doing the very last horizonal thread at the very top, you take the speed weave off and instead of just sliding through all the loops, instead you stitch down each loop. Think of it like a whip stitch where you grab each loop then stitch it down.

Then the entire thing is stitched down around the edges only. :)

1

u/somuchbitch Mar 05 '25

Thanks for the reply that makes a ton of sense! Great explanation

14

u/Sea_Solution_9837 Mar 04 '25

Each “blue” thread is secured to the denim as you progress. When you finish darning and remove the metal part with the hooks, only one side is loose (pocket effect).

3

u/LoverOfPricklyPear Mar 05 '25

I plan on doing legit patchwork underneath with quick zigzags across it all, with this stuff on top.

1

u/somuchbitch Mar 05 '25

Very cool thanks for responding!

8

u/Kimera225 Mar 04 '25

Looks amazing ❤️

Where did you get that big loom? Only one I could get was tiny (useful, but still tiny)

13

u/Sea_Solution_9837 Mar 04 '25

Aaaaaaand I bought one. I get holes in my jeans from automotive battery acid, and this will be quicker than shashiko patching. I like the shashiko look, but I'm a perfectionist and it takes soooooooo long to get the perfect grid of dots onto my jeans before I even get to stitching!

21

u/LoverOfPricklyPear Mar 05 '25

My most recent little underside patch with shashiko stitches

5

u/sweetannierich Mar 04 '25

I love this.

4

u/Kumabachi Mar 04 '25

Beautiful! Can you maybe share the pattern?

4

u/Pamplemousse87 Mar 05 '25

Your lines are so straight. I hope one day I can be this good!

3

u/uncutstinger Mar 04 '25

Amazing, absolutely love it.

3

u/elefhino Mar 04 '25

5

u/Malsperanza Mar 04 '25

This is extra

5

u/uaemn Mar 04 '25

Do you mean that in a good way or a bad way?

1

u/satiredun Mar 05 '25

So does that whole weave sit on top with only the edges sewn to the pant?

1

u/VVerecat Mar 06 '25

I love this stuff, but I'm curious. Do you go back and attach the top edge or just leave it as a little pocket?

1

u/Sea_Solution_9837 Mar 06 '25

The top edge can be secured at the end.

1

u/Joosmadeit Mar 06 '25

How do you call this item? I love this so much, it is amazing

2

u/Sea_Solution_9837 Mar 06 '25
