Since it's very stretchy knit fabric I wonder if using a small fabric patch on the back would be better? That is wool darning thread though, the idea is that it will felt a bit in the wash.

If you're referring to vids on YT, you can slow those down. The commentary will sound slurred but if it's the actual mending you want to see more clearly, then just click on the 3 dots and choose your speed.
