REQUEST Mending suggestions?

Hello! I have this amazing pair of pleather pants that I love so much but she got busted open under the butt cheek :/ At first it was kind of a cute cheeky (pun intended) look when going out but the rip really just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I would love to save them with some visible mending but I’m not sure how to go about it in an area that could end up being a repeat offender

REQUEST Looking for advice on unusual mend: foam sandal straps issue

The base is some kind of dense foam, with the straps rooted between the pink and top black layers. Due to walking, the straps have started tearing through the black and ruining the fit and making walking hazardous. I’ve tried really strong glue, but it just peeled away because of the foam being weaker than the force working on it, leaving glue with a skin of foam on it. The only idea I have so far is some kind of shibari-esque contraption to hold the straps down by running a cord under the sole. Not a great plan imo but I’m blanking on other options.

I was hoping someone could tell me or send me a good video for a beginner, maybe advice on what products to buy so I can fix these giant holes.

Also curious if there's any semi easy way to reinforce the pocket as well.

REQUEST I’ve Met My Match: A Denim Run

I’ve done a bit of smaller mending, on less visible and less stressed areas, and I’ve finally found a project I’d like some advice on! My fiancé’s jeans finally decided to start running from the hole in the knee, and it’s finally high enough that he won’t wear them 😭

He asked if I could put a big patch there, but I worry that’s too simple and will just tear on the first wear. Darning seems like it would make them juuuust tighter in that leg, so I do like the idea of mending with something else, but then how would I go about leaving SOME of the knee hole in that case?

any advice welcome!! been (mostly hand) sewing since i could hold a needle, only decided to use my powers for good recently though so lots to learn!!

REQUEST First time sashiko mending, what should I fill the white space with?

Post image

Doing a bunch of sashiko mends on my oldest pair of jeans, want them too look fun and colorful. Should I leave the white patch empty or embroider flowers, or more tiny x's?

The other knee also needs a big repair but I'm going to do a couple different color/size patches on top for that.

Also! If anyone knows a neater way to mend around the edge of the hole that would go with the design, feel free to suggest.

I'm worried any holes I put in it while I sew will expand with wear.

Any ideas? I'm thinking I could stitch a new section of strapping to bridge the gap but is there a better/sturdier way?

Thank you!

This is a pair of second-hand jeans I bought and after a few months the denim gave out - I gave up on them briefly but have been recently reinspired to mend them. What do you suggest?

REQUEST Need advice for mending childhood plush

Hi guys! I need some help.

I've been through a lot in my life and my Rosie has been with me through it all. I stopped sleeping with her a couple of years ago because I was worried about her falling apart. I don't think she'll ever be strong enough for that again, so I'm mostly okay with her sitting on a shelf once she's repaired but I would like to cuddle her occasionally.

I was thinking that mending Rosie could help me heal a part of my inner child. While I've gone through a lot of therapy for my trauma, I still feel disconnected from my childhood. I think spending time mending Rosie and making her whole again would help me reconnect with it.

I'm just not sure where to start. I've sewn my whole life, but mending is new to me. She's quite threadbare in places and her body fabric is quite thin. I'm thinking her fabric may need to be reinforced, but I'm not sure how to go about that without taking her entirely apart lol. (If I have to I will, but that seems really scary tbh).

So, tl;dr: how do I go about mending Rosie? I'm not sure where to start but I want to do it myself to help heal my inner child. ❤️

REQUEST Help! How to cover fraying straps of favorite tote bag

Thumbnail

Hi menders, this is my favorite tote bag of 15 years. It’s the sturdiest bag I own, and up till now the only repair I’ve made was minor reinforcements on the strap. But as y’all can see, the straps now in dire need of repairs. I hadn’t even realized how worn the straps were until my friends pointed it out the other day, and suddenly I was embarrassed to think I’ve been walking around with it looking so bad.

The interior (that white fabric) is still very sturdy, but the strap’s original fabric covering is very worn and dingy. I’d like to remove all the original fabric from the strap and sew new fabric on here.

I’m super super new to mending, but I do have very minor experience with hand sewing (replacing buttons, lazy girl pants-hemming, adding notions to costume jackets, etc). I do not own a sewing machine yet, either.

What kind of techniques should I use to repair the straps of this tote bag? Can I do this without a sewing machine?

This is the third or fourth pair of pants that I’ve had to mend the inner thighs but the first time I’ve gotten this puckering? What did I do wrong? How can I address this issue (without undoing all of it)? How do I avoid it in the future?

REQUEST Mending patchwork style pants

Hello! I have these pants that are becoming worn in the crotch (as they always do) and I was going to patch them, but I've become a bit stuck on how exactly to do the patch placement. The worn areas span most of the crotch area, and if I do one big patch I'm worried about compromising movement, but multiple smaller patches would just put strain on the weak fabric I think, and could get bulky with all of the patch edges? Am I overthinking it because of the pattern of the fabric? Any insight would be greatly appreciated 🙏

REQUEST Help! Moths ate my Cashmere Sweater

Ahhh I didn’t store my thrifted cashmere sweater right over a season and now the moths have taken a bunch of small (and some large!) nibbles out of unit. I haven’t really done much darning before and generally it hasn’t gone well. Any tips for salvaging this one? What materials/methods should I be using 🙏

Deleted my previous post because I completely left out a picture lol. Here’s my dilemma: Got bleach on my 90.00 Levi’s. How can I fix this? Embroidery, dying over it? A patch seems too tacky. Thinking something subtle and classy, idk. Im sad I messed up my 1 pair of “nice” jeans and am open to literally any suggestions. Visible or otherwise. Thanks everyone 😊

REQUEST None of my patches ever last

I've tried doubling down on the patch front to back. I've tried iron on patches and sewing the edges. It just always rips more.

I stitched this hole once, and an identical hole ripped open a couple centimeters above the stitch line the next day.

This patch is stretch fabric, cuz I saw somebody do that in this sub.

We'll see how long it lasts.

REQUEST Mending ladders in sweatpants

Hey all, I have some very well-loved sweatpants that I would rather not throw out, but that are getting quite threadbare.

For woven pants (linen, denim) I would usually do sashiko, and for other knits (socks, jumpers) I would usually darn… as it is, I’m at a loss with what would be best.

The sweatpants are 100% cotton knit, and the pictured areas are seat and seam of the seat, as well as crotch seams. I would love some suggestions or advice for repairs! TIA
