SASHIKO Finished patching toddler pants
Yellow dino was already on the pants. Spent way more time on these than I planned too, as he'll probably grow out of them in about 5 minutes, but I enjoyed the process. The one on the left is supposed to be fish. The bubbles look a bit more like floating barnacles, but oh well. First time trying herringbone stitch as the border, and I like the look. This was a great practice exercise for me :)

SASHIKO first timer attempt at patching up my favourite jeans
i thrifted these jeans 2 years ago and they have been my faithful companions ever since. they recently got ripped at the knee so i got to try my hand at visible mending! i put two iron-on patches, one inside and one out and then used embroidery thread to stitch them in place with a free hand sashiko inspired pattern. it’s not perfect but i quite like it- and no more cold knees!

SASHIKO My first attempt at sashiko
I'm really happy about the result, I was a bit nervous about this mend because these are my favorite jeans. This were my aunts in the 90's and they were "rescued" from my grandma's house, where they were delegated to grape harvest duties. I've been wearing them for years and the pockets were starting to get a bit thin. I didn't add a patch on the back because it's pretty hard to access. Let's see if the sashiko alone helps them last a bit more. I used Olympus thread and needle.

SASHIKO First time sashiko
LOVING the results. Now I can't wait for all my pants to develop holes in the crotch (I never know what to call it LOL)

SASHIKO I sashiko’d my 10 year old slippers, almost good as new (or better?)
The heel was coming out and the ribbing at the ankle had half come off. A patch made it all better!!

SASHIKO Sashiko mending I did on a pair of vintage jeans
First picture is older work. I did a sort of informal gusset to add extra space to the knee to prevent it needing to be mended again. This second patch I’m doing on the pocket is reinforcement for a torn area at the belt loop, which I had to unstitch in order to get at the vulnerable area. I stitched from inside the pockets, so the pockets are still functional and NOT sewn closed, worry not! These jeans are ancient Levi’s, valuable to me both bc they were my mom’s in college and because they don’t actually make this cut anymore.

SASHIKO First attempt at Sashiko
I bought a second hand jean jacket which has some purposefully distressed parts and holes. I enjoy the chance to practice some Sashiko. Here is the first hole covered with a patch from some equally thrifted bed sheet.

SASHIKO Mending my kid's jeans
The knee on my kid's jeans was worn through, and I had fun trying different sashiko patterns over it:
Kaku-yose (storehouse posts), tate-waku (rising steam) and kaki-no-hana (persimmon flower).
The result is perhaps a little chaotic, but I like it (and so does my kid).

SASHIKO First go at sashiko -- I mended the flannel I've had since high school! So happy to bring some new life to my favorite shirt
I've had this flannel for easily 10 years and wore it daily with the sleeves rolled up for much of that time. Eventually the elbows and rolled edges started to wear, so I stopped wearing it and retired it for a while. The other day I decided it deserved some attention once again and tried my hand at some simple patches!
Next time I think I'll finish the patches by rolling the edges, especially on a cuff like this since I wear them rolled up. But overall I'm super happy with the result and can't wait to wear this flannel again!
