As an electrician, I don’t recommend using snakes as wiring.
86
u/gymrat505 Jun 12 '23
Big power just wants to sell us more copper instead of the economical and bio degradable options. Snakes have powered homes for centuries but now they don't recommend it. smh

It's a little known fact that snakes are great as air conditioners due to their cold blooded nature.

They do make for good apprentices though!
Can get in the conduit to detangle wire runs

The chance of you being attacked by a ceiling fan snake is low but never zero.

Snakes doing the momentum and angle of approach calculations in its head while testing the speed of the fan.
And executes it’s attack perfectly
364
u/SRBall Jun 12 '23
There’s gotta be a scientific explanation for this. The snake launched directly at the camera man despite the overwhelming odds that it would land ANYWHERE else.
258
126
u/itisnotmyusername Jun 12 '23
Odds were 1 in 360
41
u/usegobos Jun 12 '23
Flying snakes? I would say 1 in 8 is "close enough in horseshoes and handgrenades."
7
12
u/UndercoverFBIAgent9 Jun 12 '23
There’s a wedge of real estate approximately 0.7 radians wide that is considered “danger close”
22
u/xXMuschi_DestroyerXx Jun 12 '23
If you want to get pretentious it’s probably closer to 4-5 in 360 because there’s more than just 1 degree in angle that could still hit the person at that range. Someone smarter than me could do the exact math to figure that out I’m sure
9
u/flavored_icecream Jun 12 '23
The guy looks like he's about 2 meters away, so the circumference of the circle around the fan would be 12,56 meters. An average human male is about 42 cm wide at shoulders or 63-74 cm if overweight, but even if at normal weight, he's probably not standing arms at side, so I'd still add at least 20 cm and that would make him cover around 4.9% of the circle (or 3.3% if he's 3 meters away).
12
Jun 12 '23
If we -really- want to get into it, there's more than 360 degrees as there's elevation involved. The snake could have flown over his head. It's still pretty close to 4-5/360 assuming the guy is pretty average height. There's not much room for it to be launched over his head.
This just dawned on me...unless we're just talking about the guy's head only and not his chest or lower body. That would change the odds quiet a bit.

*1 in 2 π
10
u/moltencheese Jun 12 '23
You think the camera man subtends an entire radian?
5
u/Bjharris1993 Jun 12 '23
Fair point, but he probably subtends more than 1 degree also. Perhaps 1 in 4π?
8
u/moltencheese Jun 12 '23
Ah don't worry, I was just being a dick. It's probably not far off a radian really
2
u/innocentusername1984 Jun 12 '23
The snake stretched out probably does. What's a radian about 60 degrees? From that range I think it cuts a big enough arc.
2
u/Traditional_Job_6932 Jun 12 '23
So you’re thinking you could circle 360 people the size of the cameraman around that fan all with the same distance from the fan?

Just think of all the times people film snakes being slapped by ceiling fans and fly off. Happens all the time, right?
The ones with the exciting outcomes are most likely to be posted in the first place and then go viral afterwards. So you're more likely to see the snakes flying at the cameraman.

It's the laws of narrative.
Usually a 1 in a million chance happens once in a million.
When the laws of narrative kick in, million to one chances tend to happen 9 times out of ten.6

u/kismethavok Jun 12 '23
Why you you think the snek spent so much time preparing? He was aiming for his target, the asshole who turned the fan on.
3
u/smilingasIsay Jun 13 '23
There is! and it's that snakes are stupid. I own two. My brother has his masters in zoology and worked at a snake zoo for 7 years and any time I ask him why my snakes are doing certain things his response is such: Snakes are stupid. They are dumb even for reptile brains, which are very rudimentary brains. s=So most likely this snake just didn't understand why what he perceived to be solid ground kept smacking him.

Seriously wtf???? Just hurting the snake and making it impossible to predict where it’s gonna go. What a fucking reckless asshole.
100
u/MrShowerHour Jun 12 '23
It's quite possible that he was in shock that a snake was crawling out of his ceiling, so he wanted to document it. It's also possible that the fan switch was on the other side of the room and he was "attempting" to prevent making contact with the snake. Maybe the snake was poisonous? Maybe the the guy was deathly afraid of snakes? Maybe he was bit when he was young? Stop judging people.
55
u/d3l3t3rious Jun 12 '23
I can imagine being pretty dumbfounded by the bizarre nature of what you're seeing
24
u/ThatOneGuyFrom93 Jun 12 '23
At least someone said it. People are acting like they wouldn't either be standing there mouth agape or just ran out of the room lol.
8
u/InferiousX Jun 13 '23
Lotsa people in here acting like they are ready for "giant snake comes through ceiling and 'thuba-thum-thuba-thum-thuba-thum' its head repeatedly" as if that shit happens daily.
24
u/HPIguy Jun 12 '23
Maybe the snake was poisonous
Then that's only an issue if you bite the snake.
17
-19
u/TheHippyDance Jun 12 '23
Not true. Venom is a type of poison. Saying the snake is poisonous is accurate. Saying the snake is venomous is more accurate
7
→ More replies (1)6
u/FM-96 Jun 12 '23
You are technically correct (the best kind of correct). Venom is a type of toxin, and toxin is a type of poison.
However, some fields (medicine & zoology) use the terms differently, with "poison" specifically meaning a toxin that's swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin.
And given that we were talking about a snake, this was obviously the meaning that was being used here.
-4
Jun 12 '23
Idk if you have the self possession to film it, probably could react in other ways too. Snakes are around, we live with them, they aren’t unusual.
Also why do people assume every snake is venomous? In my state we have three venomous snakes out of almost 50. We really need better education around snakes. And no I will continue to judge people who put animals in danger due to willful ignorance.
8
u/bruwin Jun 12 '23
Because the one time you assume a snake isn't venomous is the time it will be and bites you
-6
Jun 12 '23
If you’re that concerned about it then learn the few venomous species in your area. Willful ignorance to assume every snake is venomous. Also you can call removal services. I remove snakes for free for my neighbors.
-2
22
u/Hanshee Jun 12 '23
I agree. It’s an animal. Not it’s fault it ended on top of a ceiling fan. Remove it and move on.

If you ever see a snake come out of your ceiling, or anywhere else in your house for that matter, don't even think. Just leave and call an exterminator.
32
u/Timshky Jun 12 '23
Why do you need an exterminator when you already have snakes?
22
u/C-Kwentz-0 Jun 12 '23
If the snakes stick around it probably means they're surviving off a vermin problem you didn't even know you had!
2
u/JimmyHavok Jun 13 '23
It came out of the walls, so there's probably nothing left to eat. Except the person with the camera.
