visa dangers now far greater

For those who have not seen, take a read here. Very soon in the article it became clear to me what her mistake was.

Wwoof usa? I think you need to issue warnings. It's not safe for foreigners to wwoof in the usa right now.

They already know this. Its not news that you may need a work visa to Wwoof:

Sure, but frankly I don't care what happened. No one should be treated that way.

Not like what's going on in America, legal immigrants are being taken off the streets and deported. It's unconstitutional and illegal, but the president is doing it anyway.

you shold check out a tv show called border force when they raid companys and houses to arest hard working pepole

Yes, I know of the show, but that's got nothing to with what I said.

I may disagree with how some countries enforce their borders, but it's their laws and they are deporting who they view as illegal immigrants, in their country without the right visa/documentation/permits etc. Unfortunately, the law doesn't care about how good or hard working people are.

But in America, under the new administration, legal immigrants are being deported. These are people with documentation, correct visas, student visas for example, who are being taken off the streets, kept in cages and then deported despite being their legally and having committed no crime.

The reason for their deportation could be because they're from a county Trump doesn't like, or because they attended a left wing peaceful protest, or literally any reason. People are also having their Visas revoked suddenly, without warning and with no good reason.

I would advise nobody to travel to the USA, due to this uncertainty.

Those people aren’t black bagged for weeks and there’s zero chance of them ending up in an El Salvadorian labour camp

Workaway is work. You’re providing service for a place to stay/food that you’d otherwise pay for. You need a work visa for workaway and wwofing which is why people here are often told not to say what they’re going to do. It’s a risk (be caught lying) everyone here is aware of. It is work no matter how much we try to rationalize it in our heads. You cannot work on a tourist visa. The 10-year ban is expected.

That said, the detention part should not happen. Ideally. She should have just been deported immediately.

Different countries and sometimes different offices have different ideas on whether workaway needs a work visa.

But yes, the detention was utterly unnecessary. The Canadians could have given her a handcuffed escort to Vancouver airport and put on a flight home, or the US could have just done the same at Seattle; she was trying to leave the US anyway. But I guess the US felt they had discovered a crime to investigate after the fact.

Different countries tell us 3 countries please

1

u/PossibleOwl9481 9h ago

You want to visit a country, it is your job to research such things for that country.

1

u/Substantial-Today166 8h ago

i know that and 99% are the same so dont tell pepole that there are countries that dont care about the rules you are getting pepole in troble

1

u/PossibleOwl9481 8h ago

Quite the opposite. Each country is sovereign and has their own rules. Not all are the same, not at all.

Some have no issue with working or similar and do not see it as needing a work visa.

u/Substantial-Today166 8h ago

so tell us 3 then if you are so corect

u/PossibleOwl9481 8h ago

Like I said, it is the job of the traveler to research that for where they want to go.

yeah well it's been like this. you have to be careful with what youre telling. to book a hostel for the first days or so

Sure, but the worst case scenario should be a prompt flight back to your own country and sure maybe a 10 year ban.

But no one should be treated the way she and many others are at the US border. And she's got a pretty privileged race and nationality. Imagine if she'd had darker skin or a less prominent passport...

1

u/myhusbandskinner 1d ago

yeah not saying anything to the contrary. although I think a 10 year ban is absurd.

a 1 year ban would be sufficient

I was "detained" in Canada in 2014 for Workaway......

Nothing new here, rules are rules.

2

u/thestarsinthesea 19h ago

what happened?

1

u/PossibleOwl9481 1d ago

I think it is the treatment that is new here.
