This “public servant” narrative people parrot about any elected official is such total bullshit.
It’s like saying Trump’s not accepting a paycheck for being prez because he cares about America so much. Or that Elon’s doing his bullshit because he just wants to help.
What do you think Biden's motivations for becoming president were? Outright malicious like Trumps? Or generally trying to do good and better the country and leave a good legacy?
The things you're comparing are ridiculously different (Elon and Biden, lol) and it makes your entire post pointless. You said nothing about Biden, just said how shitty Trump and Elon were and pretended that applied to everyone. as if they weren't extreme and obvious outliers.
I really can't stand when people pretend they're too dumb to understand what they're saying in order to make a slanted point, and I think you might be doing that right now.
Whether or not they are in it for the right reasons, for most, initially running is a huge sacrifice. You lose your time with your family campaigning and traveling constantly for session, committees, and meetings. You lose your privacy. You may have to put your job or career on hold for something you may not have in another 2-4 years. People hate you for things you can’t control. And at the state level the paychecks aren’t even that great.
Seasoned politicians have much less to lose, but a lot of the newer folks (particularly at the state level) are not as wealthy as you’d think, and they’re giving up a lot. I had wanted to run for office and quickly changed my mind after seeing the workload and expectations (worked for politicians). They just shouldn’t have enough time to really reap the benefits of being a career politician. We need term limits. Short ones.
While I despise most politicians, being a real left leaning individual, I kinda disagree with this.
Even tho politicians truly are another species, i mean, most of them probably don't give a fuck about starving or bombing children, or financing dictatorships, I do believe a lot of them are scared of what Trump is doing to the US.
In the US specifically, they must feel some sense of pride of being a figure of power, some nationalist sense. And Trump is changing everything about the US sense of self, the country is changing dramatically in very little time.
Are they pieces of shit? Sure. Do they not feel empathy for their people in this time? I believe some of them probably do. You guys are not living through a normal political climate, it's going full oligarchy, and some politicians must know some consequences of such a change
He gave more of a shit about his political career than trump does about being president. For trump it’s very obviously a short term grift like everything else he’s ever done.
Politicians are human beings even if greed is usually a huge motivating factor tugging on their puppet strings and I’m sure many of them want to do the right thing but can’t because lobbyists have their hands tied. Trump VERY obviously doesn’t give a shit and quite honestly probably hates us poors.
