He wanted to put the actual original one in his office, but a lot of people had to spend a lot of time convincing him that wouldnt be a good idea. They apparently sold him on a different "important" copy of some sort. Its funny that he still has the photo of the "gulf of America" behind him too. The guy does shit that would seem stupid to someone suffering from end stage syphilis, expects accolades for it, and then actually receives them. The guys actions remind me of stuff I would have come up with when I was drunk and high out of my mind and people just clap.

I just made a post about the gulf of America poster, it's really weird lol. I get displaying it when he first renamed it and made the announcement but it always seems to be there now, like he just enjoys looking at it.

One of his greatest accomplishments he probably thinks.

For sure! Nevermind the fact that two continents are named America. He's probably not aware.

No one tell him DC stands for District of Columbia. He'll probably need to rename it District of America.

so pathetic, this accomplishment is already forgotten and ignored by most americans, and will be reversed within the first few days of the next time we get an adult president, which admittedly may be awhile

I'd bet that, just like "of" in a sentence like "that's the house of the smiths" means ownership, "Gulf of Mexico"/"Gulf of America" implies ownership as well.

And going by that interpretation, I'd argue he thinks he actually "took" it from Mexico.

It'd also fit this pattern of him wanting to do something stupid, and someone convincing him of something slightly less stupid (nuke iran -> mother of all bombs on iran, constitution in oval office -> historic copy of constitution in oval office, etc)

It’s the sort of thing Trump personally thinks is super important and will be a defining part of his legacy.

Most likely, it’ll go back to being called the Gulf of Mexico after he’s out of office.

Hell, I wasn't as spun as that guy when I drank a vial of LSD down.

Isn't the original on display, too?

https://visit.archives.gov/whats-on/explore-exhibits/charters-freedom

It literally is, and yet he keeps claiming its in a vault or some shit.

I guess part of it was he wanted it "on display where people could see it" and they had to explain it was on display where people could see it easily in a very sophisticated set up to protect it and it would be LESS accessible if they put it in his office and cost millions to move and recreate the protections. I knew that and I am not, nor have I ever been, POTUS or even lived in DC.

I think they still arent sure. Heres an article about the whole ordeal thats not behind a paywall:

I'm not sure if it's the same thing or not, but I know someone personally (who's extremely wealthy) who owns an original copy of the declaration. He said a few years after the declaration was signed, the signers wanted personal copies, so the original velum was wetted and transferred to a sheet of copper, hand engraved, and then used to stamp a number of copies onto rice paper. I'm assuming what you're describing is another one of these original copies.

Probably that or something else. Its kind of weird that the national archives hasn't said what the provenance of the document. I wouldnt be surprised if they were told not to say anything so Trump could pretend its the original document.

I hope they gave him the backup’s backup to the backup of all other backup copies and told him it was super duper important

Think back to the boxes confiscated because some of the contents were protected docs.

The boxes were clearly a narcissistic nostalgia horde: a mess of random slips of paper, notes people wrote him, things he had signed, articles about him, even stuff described as trash.

Trump’s an untreated hoarder who can hire hoard-wranglers so he can take 20 boxes of his current favorite security ego-strokers with him everywhere he goes.

Remember how mad he was about the FBI taking his personal mementos? It was like taking a blankie from a pre-schooler.

He has a desperate need to surround himself with “proof” that his invented sense of inflated self isn’t fake.
