Born too late to experience Smoot-Hawley, born just in time to experience something just as f*cking dumb and self-destructive.

u/Therealchimmike 3d ago
could be worse. Reports are these numbers are the most aggressive seen since the 1800s.

This is even dumber. Like we have 95 more years of economic history to show how dumb it is.

Any chance of us not instantly entering a recession have been destroyed the moment that board was brought out.

u/Appropriate-Crab-514 3d ago
Don't worry dude, he's got his sharpie at the ready to fix the downtrend /s
23
u/RealisticMarsupial84 3d ago
He’ll bring out the gold sharpie so the line goes up extra extra bigly!

u/Coldatahd 3d ago
They need to archive that board for future museums 🥴

u/Honest_Driver6955 3d ago
“Son is the board that started the second great depression. I didn’t buy puts, so my family ate lentil stew for the next decade.”
3
u/StolenPies 3d ago
He kept the sharpiegate map in the classified documents basement. Guess he was proud of how he got away with such a bold lie, no reason why he wouldn't keep this one, too.
1
u/low-spirited-ready 3d ago
I think that was the first cut-and-dry illegal thing he did as president? Like there wouldn’t even need to be an investigation, it’s just flatly illegal to falsify government weather reports.

Dont worry its only been what 3 months? you only have 45 months left or 1374 days or 32976 hours or 1.978.560 minutes or 118.713.600 seconds, thats nothing to worry about :)

Think about it thirty years from now, they're gonna write text books, and when it gets to this part of the century, there's gonna be a fucking picture of him pulling out the damn tariff board with a caption of how this marked the beginning of the Greater Depression.

Lol futures down over 5% for TSLA. Headlines in conservative groups "dow and tesla stocks soar as liberation day a huge success".

u/parasyte_steve 3d ago
Lmaoo yeah stocks traded positive for a few hours this week. They did it!!
This trend will surely hold through tomorrow!

Tomorrow: BIDEN ERA POLICIES HANGING OVER THREATEN TRUMP’S BRILLIANT ECONOMIC PLAN
6
7
u/glitchvdub 3d ago
It closed as positive at 4 PM. Trump announced his tariffs at 4 PM. Well no shit they were positive, they had no time to react in normal trading.
1
u/Successful-Train-259 3d ago
When markets open tomorrow morning there are going to be people who are suicidal on here.
2
u/glitchvdub 3d ago
Stock markets, I know nothing about them… That was Biden fault, he set it up… Trump probably.
5
u/reddituseronebillion 3d ago
To be fair, unless you catch an updraft, all soaring involves a steady loss in height.

He brought the board out. No one wins when a board comes out.
9
u/Simple_Tings 3d ago
He should have put it in a box, anything that comes out of a box is instantly over
4
u/P3ngu1nR4ge 3d ago
boxes > boards because anything could be in the box.
Do you pick the $5000 or do you pick the mystery box?

u/superstevo78 3d ago
especially after you prove that he's a goddamn moron by drawing a mark around Alabama to prove he was correct about the hurricane path...

I saw RCAT down 10% in a Robinhood notification and then immediately turned on the news lol

u/lococommotion 3d ago
Thanks for doing this 10 minutes after my 555 puts expired worthless and my 558 banbet got lost. I’m not bitter.
29
u/Itchy_Pride1392 3d ago
Bro he literally announced days ago that it will be at 4pm today
16
u/Fabulous_Cupcake4492 3d ago
No shit. How are people "surprised" by this?!
2
u/Itchy_Pride1392 3d ago
Honestly tho, I've never traded options, but isnt this kind of situation a guaranteed print if you buy puts on spy?
12
u/Much-Management9823 3d ago
Definitely not - the market was bracing for tariffs. If they arrived lighter than expected, calls would print. If the actual signing of the policy was pushed back, calls would print. If he said "we came to great agreements with everyone and they capitulated", calls would print.
Puts were only guaranteed if Trump was guaranteed to be consistent. So definitely not a sure thing lol.
That being said, I shorted the fuck out of TESLA and just made a down payment x2 on my next house, so I wasn't going into this bullish. It's just that betting on Trump is a bit of a coin toss. The man flip flops pretty hard, and has been flip flopping on tariff policy and deadlines nonstop the last few weeks and months

u/amusingvillain 3d ago

u/amusingvillain 3d ago
This is what I hate most about Trump. It's one black swan event after the other. I'm still pissed over his TSLA commercial
13
u/WindHero 3d ago
Why only 50% of what others charge the U.S. though, I thought the U.S. was going to be respected again????
17
u/Suspicious_Cable_825 3d ago
Look at that clown ? You think we getting respect with that clown 🤡
6
u/MooreAveDad 3d ago
From Canada …
No, you are definitely not, not during his 1st outing and even way less since 2.0 - I mean the Trump Golf site during round #1 said everything that needed to be said …

u/Suspicious_Cable_825 3d ago
I know this already lol wish this dude would deport me to puerto rico wonder who would get my house. Maybe they would want to pay for the mortgage
6
u/StandardAd7812 3d ago
They were somewhat creative in what they included in other countries rate to put it mildly.
7
u/Caldite 3d ago
The US is the richest country on earth. Most of the things imported by the US are essentials and most of the things imported from the US by developing countries are luxury goods. And that's why you have those percentages from developing countries. The big loser here still would be the US consumers. Für example, any perceived cheap food, offer cheap products would get expensive.
2
u/DelphiTsar 2d ago
The Tarif numbers from other countries are completely made up. Seem to be a mix of tariffs, VAT(Which is basically glorified sales tax that the countries also pay internally), and trade deficit %.
1
1
u/SeikoWIS 1d ago
I know you're sarcastic, but many don't know that 50% board is a LIE. It's based off a deficit, not what other countries' tariffs are.

u/SwitchedOnNow 3d ago
If you weren't short before this, what's wrong with you? Easy money.

I know America had the great crash in the 1920s and 30s but, what if America did Great Crash 2?
3
u/No-Contribution1070 2d ago
If a Great Crash 2 comes to pass, a Great War 3 will most likely follow.
1
u/bentmonkey 2d ago
Yeah the US is gonna build back their economy by bombing Europe back to rubble again, but on the wrong side this time. Yikes.

u/Vladmerius 3d ago
Before this it was really sad to see that brainwashed UAW guy get up and say plants will re-open and how excited he is about this. Car companies are going to cease production in the US altogether and the only cars being made and sold in the US will be teslas because the US is now the only market for them lmao.

I can’t believe he’s had money his whole life. He was a complete ass in the 80’s and 90’s. Owed the banks a billion and told them “that’s your problem.” Stiffed countless contractors and subcontractors. His casino sucked the trashiest one in AC. Real estate and a reality show and he’s initiated a trade war with all of our allies and biggest mfg. One country curiously not on the list

Can’t you contribute enough to 401k to get the match (assuming you get one) and just hold the money there in cash?
