I'm keeping an eye on you guys. Really unique sound, and I'm curious to see where you take it. Keep creating!

2

u/SrDavidoff 7d ago

Thanks so much! Really appreciate that. We've been working on full songs with vocals and a bigger sound for about a year now (plus years of finding our sound!). These shorts are just quick live jams I started doing a month ago while we're in the process. Glad you like them!

2

u/AlternatFan 7d ago

Interesting choice to drop the guitar tuning a full tone – definitely adds to the atmosphere. And I'm not familiar with the tanbur, but it sounds fantastic!

1

u/SrDavidoff 7d ago

Yes, you're right, the whole guitar is tuned down a tone. And the 6th string is actually tuned down two tones.

2

u/urbeibi 2d ago

oof, such a pretty sound, never seen this fusion before. there is no way you won’t get noticed. keep posting!

1

u/SrDavidoff 2d ago

Thanks for those words! It's great that you appreciated the unique sound. I'll keep posting!

Wow, very original. Don’t know what else to say except that I really like it. Please keep posting, I want to hear more.

This is a song I rapped + produced and is the intro to my album. It's suppose to set up the character of the album. The 'Left Handed Bandit'. Let me know your thoughts!

Musically this is pretty good. I like the instrumental beat that you dropped, and I think it feels thematically on point with a "bandit" type of character. The only thing for me is that the instrumentals bury the sound of your vocals, making it hard to tell what the lyrics are. I think you can maybe mix the instrumentals to be softer in that regard. Overall good job!

3

u/jomikko 5d ago

Second this. u/HairyMuffinMan consider punching a small hole in the track EQ and boosting that frequency in the vocal tracks

2

u/HairyMuffinMan 6d ago

Thank you for the feedback! I'll look out for that with the instrumental!

2

u/randomgamer22taken 6d ago

All good! Feel free to check out the track I also commented on this thread if you have the time

2

u/HairyMuffinMan 6d ago

Will check it out!

Liked it, light and chill atmosphere, enjoyed the drums transition from the distance. Mastering seems pretty good for me, vocals are nice and clear, you have a nice voice so congrats and good luck :)

2

u/HairyMuffinMan 6d ago

Thank you so much!!

u/FIA_buffoonery 4d ago

Instrumental and drums sound great! Theres a little chorusing on the background vocals that is maybe a bit much at parts. I listeners in mono if that makes a difference.

Personally, i think your voice is about right in the mix. Would help if the vocal was more aggressive.

1

u/HairyMuffinMan 2d ago

Appreciate it! would it just be turning them down for the background vocals? Wanted to go for a smoother flow but i feel you!

2

u/ApproachingHuman 4d ago

I have an opposite reaction to some of the feedback I think the vocals are clear, but not blended into the "room" of the rest of the instrumental enough. You could use a very fast delay or a side chained reverb and that would better match the mood of the instrumental. I would tone down some of the peaks of the drums with a compressor a bit too. Some of the breaks are a bit too loud.

1

u/HairyMuffinMan 2d ago

Thank you for that feedback! I'll def keep that in mind.

1

u/JvnahInTheWhale 6d ago

The flow was great, and the energy behind this was great.

Nice difference between rapping, and spoken word. The songwriting wasn't bad either.

I liked the sample and the instrumentation with the production.

2

u/Enthusiasm_Lacking 7d ago

love the feel and vocal delivery of this one. instrumentals are really cool, nice dark heaviness to them. beat switches were really nice. i think the mix overall is good, and the lyrics were cool. nice song.

2

u/ApproachingHuman 5d ago

the guitars seem a bit out of tune with the synth plucks in the begging.

The low end of the mix is really nice, but you neuter a lot of the mids in the melodic parts like the vocals, and the atmospheric stuff.

How many vocal tracks are you using in the main vocal? I'm guessing 2 or 3... I'd try bumping it up to 5 different takes and stereo widening the vox. add some side chained reverb within the phrases.

In the third part teh background vocals have a lot of distortion that could be cleaned up.

I love the creativity of it.

I think the aesthetics are on point, but with piano pieces the phrasing and dynamics are so important they on no account can be neglected.

In terms of dynamics, you really gotta be more dramatic with the dynamics within phrases and outside of phrases. within phrases, the chords being softer or heavier can really make us FEEL something. Or the melodic line around 2:04 can be more dramatic) Between phrases, you can demand attention by exceptional quietness or a wall of sound.

Not sure I enjoy the transition at 2:25-2:40 as it kills the momentum you worked so hard to build. I think your composition would have been better by ramping up the intensity instead of letting it fall.

The phrasing meaning that the piano seems to be very much on the grid, this is very evident around 3:15, around 3:22 you have better phrasing, but this is an exception to the piece (and yeah you repeat this around 2:04 mark as well)

The key change is really nicely done in the latter part.

2

u/TwDme 7d ago

Thanks for the details, it's really valuable :) Yeah, I'm not a piano player it's just sometimes easier to come up with something I had in mind. I will try to adjust velocity more and play around with phrasing.

3

u/ApproachingHuman 7d ago

Hey, since this is a feedback discussion: I like the drums and the vibe, especially love the way the synths and atmospheres come in. The noise stabs and vox effects around 1 minute are fantastic, the drop is great too.

Only thing I think would benefit greatly from a change would be the Pad in the first 30 seconds having a more organic feel to it. Sounds too robotic and boring for a track like this, they come on too aggressive and predictable, IMO. Changing the first pad a bit would make a huge difference because that's the first thing people hear. The whole magic of the track might get lost because people will skip the song entirely based on the first few seconds.

Edit: the pads in the ambient version sound much more organic to me.

Either

  • offset some notes and their velocity;
  • add variations in chords over the first 8 bars, then switch back to the first pattern;
  • maybe automate their pitch or detune just a tiny bit in an offbeat pattern;
  • let the drums start, then bring the Pad in w/ an LPF slowly for a slightly longer track;
  • slightly alter the attack of each chord in the ADSR settings.

That being said, I think you've got the breakbeat vibes fucking nailed. Gonna add your song to my tracks. Reminds me a bit of Evil Nine.

Need feedback on this mix! I have a hard time getting the vocals to sit better in the mix. Any feedback would be appreciated :)

2

u/Mafiutones 6d ago

Good thrash metal song, the vocal is a little bit raw i think, i would try to add more fx, depending on the vibe that you wanna go

2

u/jomikko 5d ago

Sounds awesome, great guitar tone. I'd consider dropping the guitars a tiny bit, literally just a dB or two, might help your vocal come through.

I love what you're going for with the (I think?) double tracked vocals on the 'ripped to pieces' and 'torn to shreds' bits but you need a bit of compression to get them to blend better.

You could consider doubling the whole vocal line, but with this style you'll probably need to really aggressively edit the double to get rid of sibilance and breathy sounds, and a compressor to really take the edge out of the attack. The thickness that will give you will also help the vocal cut through the mix.

2

u/Fabrilax 5d ago

Thanks! Watched some tutorials (as I‘m a bloody beginner) and now the vocals sit better, at least I think they do. I‘ll have a look at these chorus phrases again :)

2

u/urbeibi 2d ago

this was so hype. tbh, i like the rawness of the vocals? i think they just need a little more compression for consistency?

1

u/SayakaSawa 7d ago

I thought your vocals sounded pretty awesome with the instrumental, at some points I guess I did kind of get a slight feeling it also sounded a bit like a recording of a live performance, but even then, everything still sounded like they were in the same environment. I think the only part where the vocals could blend better are the "ripped to pieces" and "torn to shreds" parts. Listening to it again, I can't quite pinpoint what stands out to me about those parts, other than maybe they seem a bit lower energy compared to how you start off the song? This is a cool track and I really enjoyed the singing!

1

u/TryppySurfer 3d ago

Maybe some compression on the voice track to make it less punchy/bouncy and more consistent? Threshold set to only hit the peaks. Could try compressing with fast attack and release time relative to the tempo of the track. Eg. between 1/4th to 1/16th note length for release could do some work. Subtle ratio (like 1.5 - 3:1). Play around with the knee till it sounds okay to you. Soft knee (6dB & up) could be good.

After all that, maybe add some VERY slight distortion with a few percent on the wet signal and a mostly dry signal.

u/randomgamer22taken 7d ago

I recently made a happy hardcore track for a game I released: https://youtu.be/KlEt5ujcbRk

I'm pretty happy with this personally since I got a lot of positive feedback from those who heard it, but I'm still worried that I am not making music that people find memorable or worth listening to.

Here are some questions I have, if you have any other feedback apart from what I am looking for don't hesitate to include those too.

  1. Do you think this track elicits any emotion from you (Energy, Happiness, etc...)? If not, what do you think is this track missing?
  2. Is this a song that you feel like you can listen to over and over?
  3. Based off of what you heard, what are some things you think I should improve on as a producer?

I am more than happy to give feedback to your tracks as well.

2

u/Enthusiasm_Lacking 7d ago

really nice track and it fits the gameplay in the background really well. a very slight criticism i have, and it could just be me/my eyes, is i think the running animation could be altered to fit the timing of the kick to tie it together a little better. i like how the song gets faster as you run longer, kind of adds to the pressure of reaching a new best run.

  1. song definitely has that upbeat energetic feel that you're going for. feels like something you'd listen to while running to keep you going which fits the game well. also feel like the overall sound design fits the look of the game well, everything has a cohesive aesthetic.

  2. i'd say i could listen to it over and over. nice additions and switch ups that keep it fresh.

  3. not sure what you could improve on, someone with more experienced ears than me may be able to come up with something, but i think this was really good overall. mix is clean and not hurtful, all the sections of the song make sense contextually and flow into each other well.

1

u/randomgamer22taken 7d ago

Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep the comments you have for the MV in mind, though admittedly I kind of just through this video together last minute haha.

2

u/HairyMuffinMan 6d ago

This would work so well with playing a game. Even just watching the game play it works! Only thing that stood out is the snare sounds a bit dry maybe just a slight amount of reverb and mids to give it the snap.

1

u/randomgamer22taken 6d ago

Thanks for the feedback! By mids, do you mean like focusing the EQ on the middle?

2

u/HairyMuffinMan 2d ago

No problem! Yea the 1000 - 3k area id say to play around with

2

u/JvnahInTheWhale 6d ago

I find it fitting for your video game, which I'm guessing is in the music video.

I just felt it became quickly repetitive for me. It might sound like an oxymoron, but sometimes you want that for a track on a video game because you aren't going to be focused on the music that much. It's just more for the background.

I felt you achieved it.

1

u/randomgamer22taken 6d ago

Thanks for the feedback!

Rush

looking for general feedback, if you enjoy it and what you feel about it. feedback on the mix is also greatly appreciated. thank you.

2

u/randomgamer22taken 7d ago

I enjoyed this song quite a bit! The mix for me was good and appropriate for the song. Even if there was some clipping at certain parts, I feel it should be fine for a trap beat like this one. The song gives off a more spacey, and at times psychadelic vibe. Combined with the lyrics, it gives me the feeling of looking into the mind of someone who may or may not be under the influence of substances, which if this is your intent I think you did a good job.

The only piece of feedback from me is that I think the song starts a bit too abruptly. The start feels like it should belong in the middle of the song after the chorus rather than the very start, and I think it would be better to let the instrumentals take the lead first as you lead the listener in to the experience you have for them.

With that being said though, good job!

2

u/Enthusiasm_Lacking 7d ago

thank you, i appreciate the detailed response.

2

u/Hungry_Honeydew_7458 6d ago

IDK if you've seen that video of the guy in the game R.E.P.O singing chest pains by malcom todd, but i sampled it and made this.

let me know what you think, i still have to work on the outro and mix.

https://soundcloud.com/nofansonlyfriends/i-love

1

u/randomgamer22taken 6d ago

I like the vibes of the song. I feel like you were able to use the sample quite well in making a hazy, wavy lofi beat that I can chill to. I do think the effect you added to the song seems a bit too much, since sometimes it feels like the song is clipping a bit or at least the choppiness is a bit noticeable and could detract from the overall listening experience. I think if you tone it down and maybe add a bit of bass/anything on the low-end, the track would become really good. But overall, this was cool and I think you did a good job with the sample.

1

u/TryppySurfer 3d ago

Around 1:40 maybe push the voice in front of the synths through a sidechained compressor to avoid clipping. Good vibes though, reminds me of older $uicide boy$

1

u/music_and_physics 7d ago

I would love some feedback please on these two remixes I've recently done. The originals were done in late 2022, but I think I've learned a thing or two about mixing since then, so I've redone these two:

Caveman:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-AgaFtXB7E

La Larona:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2VuHMgtAOk

Any insight on the mixes would be greatly appreciated thanks!

2

u/TwDme 7d ago

These are nice. Were you aiming for some funky blues?

I liked La Larona more. The vocals in Cavemen are a bit off for my taste and I think I would prefer more aggressive drums there too. Production wise it's good, I can distinguish different instruments apart and the vocals are quite clear.

I think it's just my taste for the blues but I'm not a big fan of the funny noises here :) Also have you tried to slow down your vocals? Feels like the instruments are already fast and I would look into that as a way to add more dynamics because sometimes it's a bit repetitive.

Apart from that it's good work, good luck!

2

u/music_and_physics 7d ago

Hi, and thank you very much for the targeted feedback. In La Larona, I challenged myself to do a tune that featured a kazoo. The whole tune was built to support a kazoo, so as a fun experiment I'm glad it worked out.

I don't normally do the grumbly voice thing, usually I just sing normally. Those two pieces just happened to be during a period where I was playing around with that sort of thing.

Again, thanks for listening, I really appreciate it!

2

u/HairyMuffinMan 7d ago

The vocals remind me of 80's/early 90's style rapping. The idea of the harmonica kinda going wild is cool. With the drums going wild.

1

u/music_and_physics 7d ago

Thank you for listening, I appreciate it. And those are very kind words, so thanks!

1

u/Financial_Distance43 7d ago

This is a new song that I just made, L O V E only. I’m thinking it’s trash https://open.spotify.com/album/5yBVSsC0xqlUGzBDQxLCJU?si=cWfczEdXTpmPH37_FrfiSw

3

u/Mafiutones 6d ago

I like the vibe. vocals get a little messy sometimes with the autotune and reverb (around 0:40ish for example). drums are not too bad but they dont fit with the rest of the song for me, i would try to get more experimental with the sound selection

3

u/jomikko 5d ago

I'd second this u/Financial_Distance43 , the drums have got a very distinct trap sound whereas you could consider alternative samples. With the quite noisy experimental sound you've got going on you could even try some field recordings chopped up, sampled, with some fx and it could work well.

I also think that at the end you could consider extending the string part and have the other parts fade away. It ends kind of abruptly right now, but loses different instruments in kind of dribs and drabs but I think it could work really well to have just the one part end abruptly after everything else has faded away.

2

u/randomgamer22taken 7d ago

I like the strings on this one. I feel like it complements the lyrics you had on the song quite well, and I also think it works for the beat that you laid down. The main thing I think you might want to fix is the reverb on the vocals, as I think it is causing it to be pushed too far back in the mix, making the lyrics hard to figure out at times. In general though, I can see where you are going with this one and I think it is solid! I don't think it is trash, you just need to adjust the vocals to bring out its full potential.

Alt-Rock Metal / Bass Playing

Hi there guys! Just sharing the latest music video uploaded to my YouTube channel, playing around a popular song song/riff from Tool including tabs of what I play. Feel free to share your thoughts on the performance and overall video and share your music with me as well.

Hey everyone, I just finished a melodic bass remix of ROSÉ's "toxic till the end" and would love some feedback. Let me know what you think, any tips or constructive criticism are much appreciated.

https://youtu.be/Znu0rxkguD8?feature=shared https://soundcloud.com/bimski-sound/toxic

1

u/randomgamer22taken 7d ago

This was impressive. I read the description you had for the video and I think you did a good job at nailing what you were going for. The sound of it all, from how loud the mix was to the interplay of the guitars and the lead synths, all lead to this perfect mix of beauty and chaos that I think elevates the meaning and essence of the original song. The only thing for me is that it can sound a bit similar to the original albeit being a bit punchier and louder, but I think that is understandable since there is only so much that can be done in a remix and straying too far from the original might not always work in one's favor. Overall, amazing work with this remix and I subscribed for more!

2

u/bimski-sound 6d ago

Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment. I really appreciate you taking the time to read the description and really listen to what I was aiming for. I get what you mean about it being close to the original in some ways, and that's always the challenge with a remix: keeping the essence while bringing something new. I'm super happy you enjoyed it, and I really appreciate the sub. More music coming soon!

1

u/randomgamer22taken 6d ago

All good, feel free to check out the song I also posted in the thread haha. Can't wait for your future remixes too

The mix sounds great! I think you captured the boom-bap style that Jay-Z had before quite well. You can honestly tell me this is an old remix or even an unreleased album from the 90s and I wouldn't be able to say otherwise. Good stuff here!

Mostly used this song to practice using plugins in LMMS. I was going for a bit of a folk sound with this one and would love to hear any general thoughts on it. Also, if anyone speaks Swedish, I'd love feedback on the lyrics too.

1

u/randomgamer22taken 6d ago

I liked the atmosphere on this one. I think the strings blend well together and the vocal performance complements the instrumental too. I can easily imagine this song being played on anything that has a medieval context to it. I can't think of much that I think this song could improve on, and admittedly I am not the best when it comes to advice on lyrics. But overall, this was a great listen!

2

u/SayakaSawa 5d ago

Thanks so much for listening! Medieval is definitely what I was going for so I'm happy to hear it did evoke that kind of vibe. I appreciate your input on the blending too because I was beginning to be a bit unsure of the vocals were too loud or echoey.

1

u/randomgamer22taken 5d ago

From my experience it didn't seem like it was too loud or echoey, the vocals fit in just fine :) feel free to check out the song I have on this thread as well if you have the time

1

u/UX_Madrock 5d ago

The composition is great, clean mix. Has a cinematic movie vibe for sure, i don't know the lyrics but i can feel emotion in your voice which is actually a nice change for me. 1:44 the flute thing that comes in carries the emotion well and overall there is a cool moody atmosphere being created. I'd only say add some more vocal echos for depth as i think the vocals in general would benefit from more to fill the space better.

1

u/SayakaSawa 6d ago

This sounds so fun and energetic! I really like the fast beat, but I especially enjoyed the synth part that comes in around the 0:46 second mark. I think the vocals mix really well. The only think I could think to add is that it would be cool to see a version of this with faster vocals at the more intense parts like at 3:43. I will say, although it is pretty different in instrumentation, your track reminded me of a bit of a more dance version of Verdachtig by Systemaburz.

Alternative /zoomer-gaze

Any feedback is appreciated!

3

u/SayakaSawa 5d ago

The image you chose for your song here sets the tone so well for your track in my opinion. I like how the song starts off kind of slow, like a nice evening walk, and then the chorus is a bit more heavy, so it's kind of like you're panicking because you lost your sense of direction while walking. The instrumentals and composition sound beautiful throughout the whole thing, but maybe the only comment I have on the contrary was that, though it could just be my computer, it was a bit hard to hear the vocals and what was being said sometimes.

1

Thank you very much! Took the pic myself actually, it was my friend's car and we both laughed when we saw it looking like that haha. Yeah tbh with vocals in general im stuggling to get them to sound clear, de-essing, etc. Its probably my delivery or that im using too many takes, will take that into account for the future.

Really enjoyed this. zoomergaze is a great description. I'd consider reducing your reverb and/or sidechaining it (or even having two reverbs, a mild one on the track and then a heavy one sidechained)

Thank you! Will try!

Am I too late?

This is a failed attempt at ripping off Neu! And ending up with some type of indie rock. I spent way less time on mixing this time around and I'm not sure it sounds as good as I think, do I would love some feedback on whether there's too much low end or if any instruments are too prominent.

"Woodstock Runaway" - An acoustic guitar song, about younger teens in the 60s growing up young, seeing Woodstock, and wanting to run away from their family to become a vagabond at the festival.

I sang on this song and was wondering about how my vocals sounded. Also wondering if I'm on beat or tempo with this record.

I got this instrumentation offline, and people said that it sounded like I was rushing to cram words without singing enough of the syllables.

Would love any kind of feedback!

Thanks.

There's something about the way you started the song off that really got me into it. I think I was super interested with your vocals at first because they sound so natural and emotional in easing into the song, but at the same time reminding me of like a drier toned kind of instrument I might expect to hear sampled on songs that might be trying to characterize a more robotic theme. I also thought it was pretty cool how you layered humming onto the vocals for backing throughout the song, it gave it the kind of feel of having scattered or thoughts that are coming and going.

Thank you for that feedback, that's great confirmation of what i was going for. Appreciate you listening and sharing your thoughts.

Hello guys, I have here my first song that I want to release on 17.04 on spotify, I would like to know what you think of it, very many of my acquaintances said it has a very big Blink 182 vibe, which is somehow also in my mind :D what do you think I should do more in this direction

When you feel it Good Please Vote it up <3

I like it! It's got an interesting vibe and voice sounds great.

Breaths are a little loud imo, i would grt rid of any breaths that aren't there on purpose to add feels.

Overall though, i think it's a great song!

I started taking music seriously about a year ago…this is my first official single before my upcoming debut project. Thoughts?

I am working on an album of science/engineering oriented music in a synthwave style.

This concept of this one is signal to noise.

Does the key change before the bridge work well for you?

This is a live Trance performance that I improvised using only a synth Korg Wavestate and a Loopstation RC-505.

Hi WeAreTheMusicMakers

I'm a bedroom music producer from a country town in Australia with less than 2 thousand people, I make chill hop and this is my first release with proper vocals. I also make full music videos for all my songs. This is my latest track and I would love feed back on the visuals , music but especially the mix because I'm trying to get better at mastering tracks. Any and all feedback would be awesome and much appreciated

Been working on this for a while. I know that the percussion is underwhelming. Mostly interested in feedback on the overall vibe of the piece, its structure, and how it's mixed. Any other type of feedback is welcome, though.

Returning all feedback.

Around a year ago, I tried out my first attempt at recording and mixing a song (instrumental cover of a song from the band Ghost), and I don't think it sounds bad, but I feel like it's missing something, and I can't quite tell what.

Specifically, I've seen people say you should see how your stuff sounds in different environments, like real world usage, and I tried playing it in my car recently; it generally sounded okay, but it felt a tad... hollow? I don't really know how to describe it, honestly, it just feels like something is missing or something isn't quite right, and I'm not sure what.

Anyway, here's the link (ignore the shitty piano MIDI sample, as well as my very mediocre guitar playing):

Much appreciated to anyone that has any insight.

forbidden fruit 🍎

i recently made a song somewhere between alt-r&b, and dream pop? not sure what genre it is tbh, so open to ideas. it is about gaining new knowledge i’d rather not have, and realising that i’ll never get to see the world the same again.

i think it’s a good song, but would kindly ask for any feedback regarding:

  • the production. does it feel full? or like something is missing? what would you recommend i add?
  • the mixing. any bits that need finetuning? are there any parts that are off balance?

i’d appreciate any constructive feedback as i’d really like to get this right! thank you!
