Two stacked cups tipped over and one completely exploded. No evidence of it other than the ice-looking shards. The bottom cup is still partially intact.
Yall, the glass is EVERYWHERE. It managed to make it to another room. It sounded look an explosion.

Glass under strain can release a ton of energy because it is often withstanding a ton of energy. It all depends how it's treated. Your cup was commercially treated.

It barely tipped over. I caught it before it actually hit the counter and before I knew it, the stacked cup just blew up lol it was pretty cool to see how the shards had a bunch of pressure cracks within

Well as long as you didn't get any in your eyes and you didn't get hurt. That's the big deal.

It’s more of a concern for tiny shards that are accidentally left behind so my almost 2 year old doesn’t get glass in his foot. But I think I did a very thorough job with the clean up!

If the two cups were stacked in each other, with a hard material like glass it might have been the whole force (even if its not that much) of the tipping glass impacting the counter being transfered to a tiny, few micrometer contact patch between the glasses, causing a failure point.

Don’t be fooled by the shard appearance. Could be glass. Best to wait for them to melt.

I appreciate that the vein in the counter almost makes it look like it slammed down so hard that it cracked the stone.
