Why does it seem like every tax season everything just goes wrong
Seriously can't ever get ahead. Took the car to get inspected and it failed for rust. Got a call my tax return was ready, but then my muffler fell apart.
Every. Freaking. Tax year

That rust didn't just suddenly happen during tax season.

The rust is a rust spot on the body, this muffler is something else (I have another post of you wanna see the rust. It's like 6 inches of body rust and they won't inspect the car. I planned on filling it, then the muffler fell off)

You didn't pay the rust tax.

It’s speed holes! If the car’s still running then clearly that metal was superfluous

next tax year: new truck ?

I actually got rid of my truck (not for this). I got sick of paying 600 dollars for tires and everything else when I didn't use it for "truck things".

With the way that undercarriage looking, I can see why it failed for rust. Do you live in a snowy area? Don't forget after snow days, get that car wash to wash off the salt from the undercarriage. Helps prevent the rust

Rust, especially Midwest or mid-Atlantic regions, is the worst. Once it starts, you can’t stop it

It didn't fail for undercarriage rust. It failed for body rust. Mech didn't even go underneath the vehicle. They said fix the panel rust first before inspection

Probably because you subconsciously put repairs off until you have disposable $$. Generally around tax season 😂

On a muffler? Seems a little hot. Not sure of that will pass PA inspection either

You better brace yourself for next year. Might want to grab yourself some safety glasses and a screwdriver and start poking at the rest of that cancer under there.

simple fix. get some thin metal sheeting and a couple of v-band clamps. Wrap the metal sheeting around like aluminum foil and clamp it on each side

Soder can and JB weld, you're good to go

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB 16h ago
I live in PA and they do inspections. I don't think that would fly
1
u/Which_Cover_2043 4h ago
Aww, I hope you get it fixed bud

I have a back up vehicle in storage I'm just gonna switch too. I just have to be careful because it's been a couple years.
I gotta figure out what to do with it now though

That thing looks like a jamboree. Bro got more rust than a scrap yard .

Should’ve paid that rust off when you had the chance. Now you owe interest.

If you are getting a big tax refund you are doing your taxes wrong.Â
Tax season should just be like every other time of year as far as finances go.Â

I purposely claim low on taxes to get a return. This is actually the first positive return I'm getting in 3 years

Tax season stress. It's just one of those things that you have to put up with, so just relax and heed the smoke. 😼

Looking at the other post you made, honestly if I were you I would sell/junk your current car and buy a different beater car with less issues for <$5000. In the long run it would be better than constantly paying for repairs; $1000 spent every 2-4 years. Like it seems you even got new tires for ~$300-$500 very recently. The repair costs will rack up and you will spend more money on repairs than what the car is even worth.

I have a backup car, but I rarely drive it. Lots of smaller things I can fix myself. But a muffler seems to be about 450 alone, which sucks, even if I wanna do it myself. It's definitely getting to the end of it's life, but it still runs and shifts fine

Soup can and 2 hoes clamps.

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB 16h ago
I don't think that would fly in PA and car inspections.
That's how I used to do it, but I can't now because of this dumb state 😄

hahahaha yeah...my dude I spent almost 5k this month on shit breaking so I feel you, electrical panel work for house 3.1k, stove broke 1.2k, car repair 650, flat tire 50, potentially new tires needed, so yeah

On the west coast they would have gone for your catalytic converter as it won't pass smog without it. As for the rust you should get the car underbody fluid film sprayed to prevent the rust from growing.

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB 4h ago
Doesn't fluid film just coat it to prevent rust? Seems too late.
I do have a newer vehicle that I've been thinking about covering
2
u/Riptide360 3h ago
I would treat both cars. You can do it yourself or find a shop in the Fall before the first snow to undercoat the car. The salt on the icy roads will destroy your cars quickly. If you plan on passing future vehicle inspections you'll need to slow down the spread. The sheep oil keeps the water and oxygen from reaching and reacting with the existing rust and bare metal. I don't spray it on brakes or the exhaust system because the high temps just burn it off. https://www.fluid-film.com/frequently-asked-questions/

I've been hearing more about it lately. I'll have to look into it at the end of summer.
Thanks

Probably because you put off maintenance until now. Honestly you should be rather grateful that it happened during tax season rather than in the middle of the year or at Christmas or something. That’s assuming you’re getting some kind of refund.
1
u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB 4h ago
I do regular maintenance. I just don't check the muffler regularly....
And it was two days from inspection 😄

I mean, inspect and maintain your vehicle properly and and this shit wouldn’t happen
