Such a shame funding for psych hospitals no longer exists

I have worked in mental health 12 yrs and yes, it’s really a shame.

Thanks, Reagan. Dumping thousands of mentally ill people on the streets with no care was a great plan.

Yep. We are still reaping what he sowed a generation later.

You got that right

Went to a Halloween party hosted in the women’s tuberculosis ward there a few years ago

Seriously?

23

u/DiogenesBarrelGang 6d ago

Yeah they opened that section with live music, small vendors, etc. Don’t remember much since I blacked out but I thoroughly enjoyed it

There's a documentary type ghost show on Discovery, I would have to look it up to remember what the show is called. One woman tells a story of attending a Halloween party at this asylum and swears a demon followed her home. Goosebumps through the entire episode.

The only demon I had was the hangover the next morning

This place is so massive that they have 5-6 tours going at once. We did just the mental health wing but plan to go back soon. It’s definitely worth the price of admission.

Nowadays we have the mentally ill homeless roaming the streets. Pisses me off

Thanks Reagan.

when healthcare is run to be profitable instead of helpful this is what happens. is always destined to fail in capitalism.

3

u/checker280 6d ago

Yup. Traded being cared for by doctors to “taken care of” by cops.

I couldn’t agree more!

All these hospitals closed down and mentally ill people were put on the streets. The answer wasn’t shutting down hospitals, it was that they should have been made better.

Plus, it’s not abandoned. They offer tours.

We did a ghost tour but it shut down to patients in the 90s

7

u/aliyea123 6d ago

All of the patients from this hospital got moved to a new one like four miles away.

Damn that is the sexiest building I’ve seen

19

u/SkylarAV 6d ago

The symmetry is sexual

16

u/woodhorse4 6d ago

Sooo why don’t you just relax lay down on this couch and tell me about your mother……….

19

u/SkylarAV 6d ago

She was as big as a hospital and perfectly symmetrical, but I don't see how that relates...

Pic 4- EM meter?

6

u/aliyea123 6d ago

Yes! We did a ghost tour overnight for 8 hours!

2

u/Korgon213 6d ago

Any readings? What were the freqs you were looking at?

6

u/aliyea123 6d ago

We didn’t get a whole lot the entire night really. Heard a couple of voice on the ghost box using am radio and the emf meter was my husbands and he said be didn’t get a lot either. Heard some weird noises if you sat and listened but overall the quiet was alarming.

I was thinking the same thing !

u/Useful_toolmaker 6d ago

They built a new one. It’s apparently too small.

8

u/merryone2K 6d ago

The need for them doesn't go away just because you've shuttered the institution.

5

u/aliyea123 6d ago

They did build two new hospitals. Adults and children/teenagers are separated now

Fort Defiance.

Spooky as he'll.

Those places are always haunted.

If you stay and watch the wheelchair will move🥺

u/Maya-kardash 6d ago

So creepy

u/ghostsnstuf 6d ago

If you do a tour here they’ll tell you how back in the 70s the local high school had their prom here while it as still opened lol

The second pic literally gave me a chill. Weird.

Hi, I’ve always known of TALA. Watched all the Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures episodes and specials back in the day. Somehow yet to visit there. I know it’s “abandoned” but they offer tours on a daily basis. Were these taken on the tour? Are you able to sort of roam the halls and whatnot or are certain areas off limits? Seems thoroughly enjoyably no matter what! Thank you in advance :)

We did an overnight tour of the building you see here for 8 hours. You have a guide but after they brief you on each floor you spend an hour then rotate with other groups. The place is massive so you never run into anyone else really. You can do tours of the out buildings as well

2

u/ReflectionStandard69 5d ago

I wasn’t aware they did overnight tours, very very cool!! That’s awesome they allow you an hour to be alone in a sense on each floor. Wonder if anyone has gotten lost during that time? Are there parameters once they brief you? As in don’t go so far they have to spend the entire night searching for people? I’ll have to look into this more and figure out a day/night and time that works for me! Again thank you for the information :)

2

u/aliyea123 5d ago

So what they do is break you up into groups of ten and then you get about two hours per floor then rotate between floors with other groups. In each floor there are four wings. You start off with the tour guide going over a briefing and walking you through the wings and then you can explore that floor for two hours then they all switch around and start over again. It’s a big place so I’m sure people have gotten lost!

2

u/ReflectionStandard69 5d ago

Sounds thrilling!! Did you encounter anything paranormal? Is there anything to be aware of when visiting?? Were some floors more spookier than others? My apologies for all the questions, again I’ve never been and would absolutely love to experience it all!!

2

u/aliyea123 5d ago

No worries! None of the groups were getting too much activity but there definitely is some unexplainable things. It’s all being your own equipment as well. The 3rd and 4th floor is usually more active but just depends on the day I supposed. I won’t give too much away but it’s definitely worth it even just doing a history tour or photography tour which we will be also doing sometime as well!

I’ve always explored abandoned places alone. Difficult to get my friends to tag along and I understand why. It’s not for everyone. I’d personally love to “get lost” and see if anything occurs while roaming the halls. Even better is I’d buy a night vision camera instead of going around with a flashlight. Go full on Ghost Adventures Zak Bagan’s mode! I’ve been to a few abandoned hospitals/asylums in my time. Don’t get me wrong they can be very creepy and eerie but at the same time the thrill one gets from it all is exhilarating! I’ve been to the well known Sanitarium named after a certain evil French doctor. The entire time I felt as if eyes were peering out of every single doorway I walked by. Well knowing I was the only person in the building. The hairs on the back of my neck were standing up every single second. Towards the end on my way out I did see a couple things that I still can’t explain to this day.

Was it better when we restrained people with mental illness in places like these or is it better to let them rot alone and starving on the corner of the highway overpass?

1

u/Jim-Jones 6d ago

Why is there a TV remote on that stretcher?

5

u/aliyea123 6d ago

It’s an EMF meter for ghost hunting

That's big enough for the entire Trump regime.
