Fool's vs Fools' thoughts?

Fool's is totally valid. Think of it as "the day of the fool".

Interesting, this is my same reasoning for using fools'. All the fools can own the day simultaneously. So I would say it's the day of the fools. It does seem as if they both work though.

Agreed. There is more than one fool. Just look at “Alec” and “Hilaria” Baldwin, for example.

I would use fools' but apparently a lot of dictionaries have both variants listed. I thought it might be interesting to get this groups thoughts on the matter.

I usually see it as fools' and the first page of Google results is mostly spelled that way as well.

I would go "fool's" justifying it as the day of the fool. Logically, both make sense, because you could say it's the day of fools (multiple people). A fool can also be a prank though, in which case it'd be fools.

I don't think it really matters in this case, unless you can't explain your reasoning one way or another (or a third way) - then I cast judgement.
