Food TOMATOS DO NOT BELONG IN SOUP UNLESS IT IS TOMATO SOUP
If I get one more weird squishy in my otherwise firm soup, I'm gonna boycott Campbell's

u/pinko1312 19h ago
That's just like your opinion, man

The only soup we make now is "taco soup", and we throw in diced tomatoes, and they're yummy in there!

Hard disagree. Tomatoes and tomato products make nearly everything better. It’s a staple ingredient in nearly all dishes I eat.

I am not a soup enjoyer except tomato soup. But when my partner makes tomato soup it’s all blended up so we never have any unwanted textures waiting to throw me off guard.

Tomatoes should be unrecognizable as tomatoes in anything they’re an ingredient in. Nasty little things.

real, i love the taste but i cannot do the texture or the seeds at all T_T i can even do like roasted cherry tomatoes, just not the normal ones
•
u/ReserveMedium7214 AuDHD 19h ago
I must admit, I can tolerate sun-dried tomatoes. They don’t look, feel or taste like plain ol tomatoes.
•
u/sogyaudacitybig_gear Autistic 19h ago
Yeah I have the texture, don’t get me started of those little cherry tomatoes! I don’t really like the taste either

It depends on the soup. Yeah; this isn’t true. Soup is never firm due to the fact it’s a liquid.
•
u/ZoeyKL_NSFW AuDHD 19h ago
liquids can A) freeze B) some soups come as concentrate that require water

If you're at my house and you're offered homemade soup, decline.

similarly, tiny soggy bits of fruit need to stay the hell out of yogurts!

Cooked tomato chunks in food are an abomination. Make that shit into a sauce/paste before you put it into anything, mince it up small enough it's undetectable, there should be no large slimy hunks of tomato in any meal.
My husband is a straight psycho. So is my dad. These two will actually eat and enjoy cooked chunks of tomato. Pure insanity. /s Kinda. I really hate chunks of cooked tomato lol

As a soup lover I wholeheartedly agree... with one exception which is Mexican soup... But even there, I think they should be blended first.

Yeah, growing up my mother would just throw a bunch of diced tomatoes in soup she made. I love tomatoes. I eat them by themselves, I also like my mom's soup, but they don't add anything to a soup, and possibly a hot take they don't add anything to burgers, they just slip out of the burger and you now have a partially eaten lukewarm slice of tomato either on your lap or on the plate.

I used to feel that way about onions, I have no idea what happened but now I will pickle red onion, caramelize it for hotdogs, add extra to soups.

Jup,
However: Tomatoes are actually berries, that makes pastasaus a chutney or jam.
So a Jam sandwich and a plate of pasta should be on the same place on the food pyramid

If I make soup with tomatoes they get chopped up real fine or puréed. I hate big chunks of tomatoes in my food. Like please don’t do that to me.

Cioppino is very high on my list of comfort foods.
Gazpacho is one of my favorite things. Minestrone, wonderful. Tortilla soup, great. Manhattan clam chowder, second best, but I’ll eat it.
There are many Thai soups with tomato, as well various curry soups.
Campbell’s soup is crap anyways. And their tomato soup is awful. I avoided tomato soup until I was a teen because I though it was all like that.

Au contraire mon frere.
The acid in the tomatoes brings out the flavor of many soups.

I dont like tomatoes on its own, its like eating tomato sauce alone
(btw Shakespeare was the person who invented the word alone)
•
u/Henrimatronics 30m ago
I really don’t know who in their right mind would put tomatoes in soup. It really doesn’t sound appetizing.

Well I mean nothing belongs in a soup but soup to me 🧍♂️... Apart bread. Gosh I love dipping bread in soup. I love bread.

There are very few things I more than tomato chunks in food. Make tomatos into a paste or sauce or whatever and Im fine but just tossing a chunk of tomato into something is horrendous, especially when its squishy like you said. Even in tomato soup tomato chunks have no right to be there. I want my tomato soup to be soup, not soup with chunks in it.
