Proper way to split a wire into 4?

I currently have a few systems retrofitted to my car and they are powered through a fuse tap.

Over time I began to hate how it looks and how messy my fuse panel has become, so my plan is to fix all that and make it just like the OEM wiring diagram.

The main wire comes from the fuse box(The Green/Black in the picture) to a connector near the driver's footwell (Called TIUL in the diagram) and from there goes to each module.

  1. What would be the proper way to split that wire into 4?
  2. Something about the wire sizes seems weird to me, What size wire should i use from the fuse box to the connector before the wire is split?

Thanks!

Best Adhesive for Dash Cam to windscreen

Hi /automotive,

Need some advice. Does anyone have any recommendations for strong adhesive that can stick a dashcam to windscreen, and remain well and truly stuck, as permanent as possible. I've tried some decent double-sided tape, but I suspect heat may have caused it to lose connection, i did clean the surfaces thoroughly. Happy to shop online, Amazon etc.

Thanks in advance.

2013 Hyundai Elantra GT Electrical Issues + Water Intrusion

Coworkers car that I’m trying to help fix - another mechanic diagnosed it as a bad alternator and bad battery, that didn’t resolve the issues. The issues: low beams don’t work, interior lights don’t work, air bag light comes on, right rear tail light doesn’t work, sunroof doesn’t work, climate controls intermittent, radio doesn’t work. After a visual inspection and info found water had been leaking in from a bad seal on the top right corner of the windshield, these issues are intermittent and would come back after it rains or going through the car wash, I knew something had to have been getting wet. Passenger side foot well area, there’s two connectors that go into the lower A pillar and there’s an airbag module I assume above that, and apparently three relays up there too. From what I can tell only the two connectors are getting wet, the module looks dry, and I haven’t got eyes on the relays. I’ve got some wire diagrams but they’re not very helpful. Wondering what’s tied into these components that affects all these systems. Or if I have multiple issues. We’ll be getting the leak addressed but I want to fix the electrical issues too. Dialectric grease on the two connectors kind of helped for now, after blowing the water out. But some things are still not working right. What are the three relays behind the glove box?

Broke down truck

I drive a 97' GMC Sierra c1500 extra cab. It's a RWD, 4.3 manual. 176K miles

was driving fine all day with no issues until I stopped by the store and then with no warning the engine can't fully start. My battery is less then a year old and has plenty of power, had a tune up last year, replaced my ignition switch. When I try to start it, the engine turns over slowly but will fluctuate between fast and slow. My fuel gauge is broken so I count miles and I am confident it has at least a quarter tank left. I tested the fuel filter for flow and it's good. Any help or suggestions for what's wrong withy truck?

2007 Audi A4 2.0t fsi lean codes (P-2177)

Recently bought the car mentioned in the title knowing it had a few problems. So far my dad and I have changed the timing belt (Chain is next), coolant, some coolant lines, MAF sensor, PCV, vapor purge solenoid, connectors, and a few other bobs and bits. One thing we are trying to do now is to get the smog codes to set which is proving futile. Every time we get close to setting all of them, a lean code on idle sets (P-2177). We are currently using ross tech to help monitor some of the channels as we try to diagnose where and why this code keeps setting.

The most recent thing we replaced was the vapor purge solenoid which was starting to leak and ross tech confirmed that. The Adaptation (Idle) was now at a reasonable percent when the car was on, and the lambda control was steady as well. When we drove the car around to set the smog codes, the Adaptation (partial) went up to +25%. We thought that the code that would set now would be the lean code under load (P-0171), but the lean code at idle (P-2177) was set instead. We also checked the Leak Detection Pump and it seemed to be fine after going through the proper testing process for that pump.

We are a little at a loss here. We've done smoke tests with no avail and not sure where to go at this point. Any suggestions or advice would be incredibly welcome.

Stuck dipstick?

My girlfriend took our van (2010 Dodge Grand Caravan) for an oil change today and the handle for the dipstick broke off. Those poor guys spent an hour and a half trying to remove the rest of it using vice grips with no success. Could not get it to budge. They tried lubricating it, said it seemed like it had been fused or superglued in there. I have never heard of something like this happening to a car, and I wonder what will have to be done to remove it.

She had the oil changed last in January, at the same place, with no problems. Has anyone ever experienced this, and what did you have to do to fix it?

2016 ram 1500 rear view mirror fell off

Hi all, my rear view mirror fell off this morning and I'm not sure how to put it back on there. I'm thinking about taking it to the dealership I got it from but it's been 4 years since I got it and I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be under warranty.

I'm looking to buy my 3rd car after I have had bad luck with 2 lemons. I'm tossing up between these 2 4x4s. the navara is privately sold with no warranty I think it's a 2.3 litre engine, with only 89,000 km coming with tray, roof racks and a nudge bar is $30,000 and I believe you don't have to pay gst If it's privately sold. Or The hilux is through a local trusty worthy dealer ship with a 5 year warranty unlimited claims for $1700. 2.8L engine with 170,000km it comes pretty stock with only a snorkel (no bull bar racks or tray) for $34,000 not including gst So l was wondering which one I should get?? Also any advice at all is really appreciated whether it's on common problems or if it's worth it

Question on these Old Plugs I Just Pulled

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just changed my spark plugs on my 2022 Volvo XC90 T6. The plugs shown here have been in the car since I purchased and I just now changed them at 80,000 miles.

You can see that one plug has more black on it than the other plugs and feels and looks like a deposit of some kind. That plug was in the left most cylinder when looking at the engine head on.

Curious if this is something I need to worry about.

Thanks!

Need help diagnosing idle problem Jeep TJ 1998

the jeep for the longest time takes a second to crank and start unless you open the throttle all the way. After some research I decided to clean out the IAC so see if that would fix it. When trying to put the IAC back it it didn't seem to want to go in all the way but the pintle was extended the same amount as when I took it out. so I though maybe it was supposed to be like that and when tightening the screws I heard a slight snap (yes I acknowledge it was stupid to force it) I decided to just send it and start the jeep but it wouldn't start. This is also the same time a P0505 and P0123 code popped, I have gotten a P0123 code a month prior that went away after a day. at this time I realized my problem, the IAC wasn't letting any air to the engine. I took it back off and was somehow able to push the pintle back in. but now is was letting all the air in and was idling at 3K. After farther research I realized you could pull back the collar and twist the pintle to adjust it and that the spec for it was 1 1/8 in. I re adjusted it and it brought the idle back down to 1.5K. I immediately ordered a replacement part (TRQ). After getting the part I put it in but it made the problem worse. Now its idling at around 2.2K. I've tried disconnecting the battery to see if the PCM could "relearn" the Idle. Didn't work. The only part I broke was the old IAC so I have no clue why a new one wouldn't fix the problem. So I've just now used a multi meter and 2 of the 4 prongs on the connector are not showing any voltage the other 2 showing 5.1v. Would this be a problem with the pcm or the connector it's self?

Android auto won't connect

I'm driving a 2019 Chevy trax. When I try to connect to android auto it won't advance past the check for messages screen. All apps in my phone are up to date as well as the infotainment unit in the trax. I have tried multiple USB cables and rebooted everything. Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?

Is low oil pressure a powertrain issue?

I have a 2020 Nissan rogue that is occasionally throwing a low oil pressure light in the dash, no weird noise from engine or Smokey exhaust, or performance issues but I was passing on the highway today and the car started shaking and losing power a bit until I let off the gas.

I have powertrain warranty for a few months still, would this likely be a powertrain issue?

Auto loan

Been with my credit union (first community) for 5 years now. And paid my car off in July 2024. I am thinking of selling and getting a new vehicle so I don’t have to put any more money into this vehicle. I am wanting to finance through my credit union, but don’t know the ins and outs just this month literally March 1. My credit score dropped 58 points. I have no idea why but my credit score is now at 606 and now I’m scared I will not get approved. Is there still a chance of getting approved for an auto loan through my credit union?! Any advice is also appreciated.

Will peeling paint cause a car to fail inspection?

Hi everyone. I am looking at buying an old Crown Victoria from a friend because my last vehicle was totaled back last fall after hitting a deer. I don't have the credit to go out and finance one right now and I would like to just buy something outright so I can try to save as much money as I can. The only problem with this car is that the paint on the hood, roof and trunk are peeling down to the primer. He says that it will fail inspection because of this but I always thought that it wouldn't fail unless there was actual rust through on the body. I am in Maryland if this helps. Any advice or insights would be appreciated. Thanks.
