This is the start of the Republic of California. Proving to the world the state can stand alone and the rest of the country needs CA more than CA needs them. Soon states are going to have tariffs between states.

Need to cut off Big Tech revenue to Washington DC, both corporate and from employees.

I don't know why more people aren't on board with acceleration-ism. Endorse Trump's proposal to cut the federal income tax. I would rather all that money stay here in the Bay Area and California. Big win for California.

Because I hope my several times great grandfather will remain the last casualty my family sees from an American civil war. Some of us are sorely disappointed at how many people seem to have missed the lessons on how horrific the "brothers' war" was.

I'm a military officer. Former active duty current Natty Guard.

It is what it is. You're not the one doing the dying this time, it's going to be me.

And I still say fuck it, California Tech dollars for Californians. As someone who also pays California Tech tax dollars (43% effective tax rate now).

Have you not seen how warfare has evolved? There is no safe place, anyone is at risk of getting caught in the crossfire, even if they're not active combatants. You're absolutely fucking insane to be in the military, looking at the past decades of warfare, and saying "yeah that sounds like something I want to get myself, my family, my neighbors, and everyone else in the country I swore to protect and defend involved in".

Who said I want to?

My oath is to the Constitution. That's the difference between the Enlisted and Officer Oath.

Are you suggesting I ignore my oath to the Constitution of the United States in a hypothetical scenario of an unconstitutional violation of Posse Comitatus?

You're the one who made the leap from my comment of endorsing President Trump's wish to gut the federal tax which would be great for Californians and the highly taxed people in the Bay Area to civil war. I never said that. You did.

I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State (Commonwealth, District, Territory) of ___ against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the Office of [grade] in the Army/Air National Guard of the State (Commonwealth, District, Territory) of ___ on which I am about to enter, so help me God.

I personally know half a dozen top earners at Bay Area tech and tech adjacent companies who bring in minimum 8 figures, who all “live” in Nevada simply for the tax reasons. CA needs to make it law that you pay income tax in the state the income was earned in.

that's why the bulk of compensation is in stock the higher up you get, capital gains are taxed by state of residency so you can declare it somewhere else

Not completely true California FTB taxes equity vested in state. IE if you work at a startup and vest all your equity here for four years but don't sell your ISO/NSO until you're out of state you still owe CA state tax.

c suite generally get warrants and not just straight RSU, those can be exercised in a way to avoid state taxes

Agreed. Thank God for YC and Garry Tan's leadership. CA tech in CA only.
