Mourning My cat is dying.
He is only 10, has lymphoma, and doesn’t have much longer. He loves getting kisses on the forehead so I’ve been giving him 5 million. Thanks for letting me share.

Means it’s time for a kitty feast! Get some red meat, get some fish and shrimp! Do it up for your boy and take lots of pictures! 🥰 I’m sorry for your loss! Try to maintain while you’re celebrating his life with him, it’s not easy but your vibe will throw him off. I’ll be thinking of you guys as the week goes on 🖤

My cat died at 10 from lymphoma as well 2 years and 2 days ago. It was hard watching her fade away. I’m sorry you’re going through this. I wish you and your baby the best of the time you have left together. Take care my friend 🖤

Over the weekend I heard someone in my housing complex go through the experience of losing their cat. His cat fell from a window and he was a complete wreck as he cradled her body. I saw nothing, but hearing him scream triggered me and threw me back into the memory of the traumatic death of my childhood cat. I know this isn’t what is being described here, but as many of us rushed to make sure he was alright, his screams into the night reminded me how previous our animals are. I hugged my two voids so tightly that night. I’m sorry you’re experience of loss isn’t as quick, it’s drawn out and you know it’s coming. I really hope you love your void as long as you can and that you take care of yourself when you finally lose him. It’s incredible how much pain you can carry from these events - but it’s also a constant reminder that they changed your life for the best.

I’m very sorry to read this and for your experiences. As a kid our cat would wander next door. She was inherited with the property and borderline feral. My neighbor threatened to kill her if she went to the bathroom on his lawn. He was a crazy hoarder. She never returned and my parents saw our neighbor digging a plot in his yard. Complete nut job. There’s a place in hell for these people. Many of us try as hard as we can to balance the lives of an animal and treat them as human as possible. I sign petitions, donate and volunteer in their honor and memory. The neighbor eventually passed away miserable and alone.
Edit: thanks for the sympathy Reddit.

Hey you might want to put some spoiler blackout or content warnings at the beginning of your comments, that's quite a traumatic event very explicitly described. Which can trigger others like they did you.
And that sounds absolutely horrific to go through, it's something I absolutely dread even though we're not that high up anymore and we've taken precautions.

I’m so sorry. Spend as much time with him as you can. Shower him with love and attention. And tell him how special he is.

Sending all the love and kisses, specially kisses to your sweet void! And to you my friend, I'm sending you all the moral support in these hard times.
I'll pray to my 5 sweet kittens to accompany your sweet void in his last moments and guide him toward the rainbow bridge so they all can play while waiting for us.
Stay strong and give them so many kisses.

That's awful. I'm so sorry you and your boy are going through this. I told my little void that she has to live for at least 20 years or I'll die of a broken heart. Losing my last cat nearly killed me.
The positive spin on this is that you can spoil him as much as you want with the time he has left. Give him everything he loves. Especially time with you.

I am so sorry. Give him all the love and hugs and comfort, for you both. Take pics, take videos, do his paw prints, do everything you can to soak this time in. It’s a pain like no other, and so unfair when they should still have years more. Sending you and your sweet boy all the support from afar.

u/Nokian75 Oct 16 '23
I am really sorry, I just lost my little piece of the void 3 days ago, so I understand what you are going through. Surround yourself with those who love you and spend as much time with him as possible.

u/Electrical-Act-7170 Oct 16 '23
This is the hardest part, when it nears time for them to leave us. That moment when we hold that wee baby life in our hands, looking up to us in love and trust, we commit to this part. Sometimes a forever home is only a few hours or a few days. That doesn't mean that our love is any less true.
Beautiful Black Boy, you are beloved and treasured. May you have a sweet journey from this Realm. May you have fair winds and following seas for your crossing.
Eyes bright
Claws sharp
Tail high
Fair travel, Handsome Warrior, as you make your way to Valhalla. You were loved and you will be missed forever and never be forgotten. Your life mattered.

u/Time-Reserve-4465 Oct 16 '23
He’s so beautiful. I’m so sorry. There is a silver lining tho: you can now be sure to show him just how much you love him in the remaining time that he has.
No one likes to think about their pets dying, but it’s a good reminder to love them fiercely while they are here.
4
u/moralcompassoptional Oct 17 '23
I am so sorry, kiss him for me a million times too and tell him to look for my cat Lily when he crosses The Bridge, she was the best girl and never met a cat she did not love. And Willie, and Jack, and Chester, and Muffin and Boots, and Blue, and Tweedle Dum & Tweedle Dee, and Butter, and Honey Bunny, and Mommy Cat, and my Smittens Twinkle & Jammie, and Poppy Moppet, and Chloe, and Tigger Roo, and Tiggy, and Phoebe BeBe, and Zoey. And all the strays I never got to name but loved with all my heart. They will all welcome him and keep him company till you arrive to take him with you.
4
u/ImALittleTeapotCat Oct 17 '23
Give him all the love, all the foods he likes, spoil him rotten. And then let him go peacefully so he doesn't suffer. The greatest gift we can give our pets.

Aww I’m sorry. He’s beautiful. Maybe get a harness and walk him outside and let him pick his eventual burial spot. You can decorate and visit him later. Or cremation can sometimes recycle ashes into tangible and wearable things. Enjoy your time for now. I’m sure he very much appreciates you.

u/justanormalchat Oct 16 '23
I’m so sorry, as someone who’s familiar with lymphoma this is very hard for your little baby. It’s I never easy to lose our babies not alone to cancer. When I lost my cat after 12 years of having her something in me died and never really returned. It’s never easy 💔, your baby boy will always be with you.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Losing are due friends hurts more than we can ever be prepared for.
But can I ask how you learned? Was it just a regular checkup, or are their symptoms we can look out for?
2
u/CrochetAddict97 Oct 17 '23
For us, my gray tabby girl started losing weight unexpectedly and rather quickly. We took her in for that and it narrowed down to IBD or lymphoma. My husband and I suspect lymphoma based on how quickly she deteriorated. It would have taken a lot of money we didn’t have to narrow it down further so we did what we could and enjoyed our last few months.
2
u/Silveri50 Oct 18 '23
Thank you for sharing your experience! But I am very sorry you had to go through it.
2
u/aldo_rossi Oct 16 '23
Im so sorry for your cat’s suffering. Make sure he is warm and consult the vet about when might be best to euthanize your furry friend - if you are willing to cut short its suffering. Its the last kind act you may be able to perform. Just be there during the procedure to keep your loved one calm and so it doesn’t feel alone. It is hard so hard to do, but I believe it matters

This sucks. Pets don’t live long enough. There’s something special about black cats. The hole that they leave behind is so much larger than they physically are. Talk to your vet and see if they do cremation.
1
u/SuckerForNoirRobots Oct 17 '23
I'm very sorry, but thankful that you know and get to spend more quality time with him as opposed to a sudden and unexpected loss. I hope your remaining moments with him are overflowing with love and kisses and cuddles.
