International $47M+ OS through FRI for #MinecraftMovie. Best in Europe and ANZ, with LATAM & Middle East putting good numbers as well. Expecting $125M weekend for a global debut of $275M or so.

800m still looks locked even assuming terrible legs. I'm more bearish on a billion after ths B+ CS but it might get close, though. I'm thinking a finish around Multivurse of Madness

B+ isn’t bad though it’s more decent / ok. So it is still possible

B+ is same as multiverse of madness

I like that movie. Remember B+ is same as Joker as well, and the same as Uncharted, and the same as The Rise of Skywalker, and the same as Thor, and the same as Wonder Woman 1984. There are literally hundreds of movies to get a B+ a lot

Joker is an adult aimed R rated movie a B+ is amazing for that. Rise of Skywalker has weak legs (for a winter tentpole) because of the terrible WOM. Uncharted has decent legs in a completely empty calendar because of COVID. Wonder Woman 84 barely got a theatrical release.

I think the B+ ultimately means the non fans really are not feeling it and the fans love it. I think it'll have good enough legs to get to 800-900 but we won't know if it's guaranteed a bill until next weekend.

Joker was a R-rated psychological thriller & Rise of Skywalker was the sequel to the biggest domestic movie of all time

Very different scenarios

Joker and RoS grossed 1B. Who knows how this movie plays though. Such a strange run

I've been telling everyone here that this movie would be a huge hit, and everyone just laughed at me because "the trailer looks bad"

19

u/GapHappy7709 Marvel Studios 1d ago

I think this is proof that trailers don’t always translate to money. Or in this case bad trailers don’t always translate to bad box office

Kinda like Social Media ain’t real life

u/RedHeadedSicilian52 1d ago

To be fair, the trailer did look bad.

It looked generic. Which is what kids watch anyhow.

It did but the “oh gosh I have to see this” bad

Yeah, this is easily topping The Batman's 772 million to become Warner Bros' 2nd highest highest grossing film since the pandemic.

u/Confident-Light-6332 1d ago edited 23h ago

Wow. Batman with just 772 million is 2nd highest?

Wow insane gap between highest, Barbie 1.45 billion and 2nd highest for WB post pandemic.

The next ones (for those who are curious)

  1. Barbie 1.44B

  2. The Batman 772M

  3. Dune 711M

  4. Wonka 635M

  5. Godzilla X Kong 570M

  6. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 451M

  7. Aquaman 2 440M

  8. Meg 2 397M

5

u/bluequarz 22h ago

Dune Paet One should be 8 at 410M

5

u/kumar100kpawan DC 22h ago

I didn't include Dune and Godzilla vs Kong. Started counting from 2022 releases (as post pandemic)

u/CivilWarMultiverse 1d ago

WB's #1 is almost 2x their #2 movie lol

Insane those numbers for it’s international markets on how popular the game is worldwide just like The Super Mario Bros Movie did

5

u/Responsible_Grass202 21h ago

I don’t think people quite understand just how popular Minecraft is. It has over 300 million downloads. I’m in my early 20s and I’ve grown up with the game, and it’s so wholesome to see millions of younger kids take up the mantle and begin their minecraft phase. This is the birth of a very lucrative new franchise.

Doesn't look to get $300M it seems, are there any markets left to open?

Either way it should either get close to $1B or above it and make a nice profit for WB/Legendary

South Korea and Japan are coming later in the month.

Europe will be huge but I kinda expected bigger debuts in Brazil and Argentina. Especially Argentina as it has a very heavy European influence

21

u/blownaway4 1d ago

Yup. LATAM numbers are a tad disappointing especially when you consider how gangbusters Mario did in the region.

10

u/Once-bit-1995 1d ago

LATAM is super into animation I think that played a big part in it. That's why Inside Out 2 did insane numbers there and it's also why an indie movie like Flow can inexplicably have a really good run there too. It's just a strong marketplace for that. It's still doing well there but it's not hitting it max potential there. WB isn't sweating it with the money it's making everywhere else.

u/flowerbloominginsky Universal 19h ago

Do you think zootopia will do well there ?

1

u/Once-bit-1995 10h ago

Absolutely yeah, it's gonna do crazy business

u/AsunaYuuki837373 Best of 2024 Winner 1d ago

Asia looks to be a good win if SK and Japan follows China. China and South Korea are usually pretty close so I'm expecting Asia to be a good market too

u/Low-Ferret7152 19h ago

Minecraft is arguably the biggest, most well-known western game in Japan. I doubt it will do bad there.

6

u/pokenonbinary 21h ago

Why would Argentina having 4th generation italians matter in the box office of Minecraft?

1

u/ElectricWallabyisBak 1d ago

Well even Argentina doesn’t consider to be part of Latam so…

0

u/pokenonbinary 21h ago

Wtf are you saying

27

u/hellboy___007 1d ago

I couldn't care for this movie. Will probably never see it. But, I'm happy it's putting butts on the seat. Hollywood needed this especially after the horrid match

15

u/lostbelmont 1d ago

Especially Warner

8

u/UnlockingDig 23h ago

Just about to take the kids now. I needed to book over 48hrs in advance to get three tickets together.

7

u/QuieroLaSeptima 23h ago

This was the most audience interaction I’ve experienced in the theater since Endgame

12

u/LurkerFrom2563 1d ago

It's not even Easter break for little kids yet. People thought Snow White still might do decently because of pent up demand for children's movies by parents and their kids, but it looks like they held out for a few more weeks and Minecraft will be the beneficiary of that pent up demand.

3

u/Purple_Quail_4193 Pixar 1d ago

Damn good numbers! Like I typed if this gets a billion it’ll be in the club with Zootopia, Drak Knight, Jurassic World Dominion, Moana 2, Finding Dory, etc. where this JUST gets over it. Should be interesting to watch how it holds.

Honestly a tad worried for Warner with how they see this win knowing what’s going on behind the scenes with future production pipelines

5

u/XenonBug 1d ago

Huh…interesting. I thought OS would pull through with the higher numbers but I guess not

3

u/bigelangstonz 23h ago

Seems like wom isn't stellar enough to do that

Gonna be interesting to see how this legs out

3

u/Fabulous-Fondant4456 1d ago

Happy a movie is doing well but it really saddens me that this is the type of thing people leave home to see. Things didn’t used to be this way.

11

u/Purple_Quail_4193 Pixar 1d ago

It’s always been this way that people would only leave home for the craziest thing. Rather have it be a silly movie like this than I don’t know, a plane crash
