Seasoning Skillet Cookie > Bacon

Post image

I swear baking this giant cookie did more for my skillet than any round of bacon ever did. The cookie recipe has plenty of butter, but because you are covering the whole skillet in dough, none of the extra fats get dried out and sticky. Added bonus: um, a giant chocolate chip cookie.

Baking things in my skillet always makes it look better than before. Cornbread and pizza are excellent choices when I think the seasoning looks a little splotchy

Bacon chip cookies then? Hmmm... Although probably have to coat the bacon pieces in chocolate first to keep them crunchy. I have to go. Some experimenting must be done.

I don't have the energy or desire, but I bet I could still find 100 dumber things said on this sub and 1000 more annoying if I tried.

Standard recipe on the chip bag or something specific for a pan bake? Care to share the recipe?

A friend got me the book "Will it Skillet?" and the recipe is from that book except an extra cup and a quarter of chocolate chips might have accidentally fallen in.

I'm not going over the exact recipe, as I got it from a book, but essentially taking the tollhouse recipe, cutting it in half, and baking it in a 10 inch skillet at 350 for 20-30 minutes should give you what you're looking for. Melting the butter in the pan and then mixing everything into that can also be done to grease your pan, save time (and effort), and cut down on dishes.

I bought a 6" skillet entirely for making cookies.

I might just be doing bacon wrong, but whenever I try to cook bacon to season my cast iron, I usually end up with a layer of fond that I have to clean off, and then it looks basically the same as before I started. I recently found that baking Dutch babies worked better for me, but I’ll try cookies next.

When that happens to me (the stuck fond after the bacon) I find the best way to clean it is with some salt and a little oil. Use the salt as an abrasive to scrub the fond off. The salt turns brown as it cleans off the gunk and then you can wipe the salt out of the pan. Just make sure to also wipe off as much oil as you can afterward so it doesn't get sticky.

My favorite! I call it a cookie cake!! Last my hubby's sweet tooth a few days in the rectangle big one lol 9x11. Make some pizza. i use the 9x11 for a deep dishish style, and use/ take a bit of the same dough on the round skillet one like in your pic for my own thin crust! So versatile 😩❤️

I can't edit my original post to add instructions, so I am putting them here in hopes that people who want them can find them.

This is a generic reminder message under every image post

Thank you for your picture post to /r/castiron. We want to remind everyone of Rule #3. All image posts should be accompanied by something to foster discussion. A comment, a question, etc is required.

If you've posted a picture of food, please explain why in a comment so people can have some sort of conversation. Simply dropping a picture of food in the sub isn't really fostering any discussion which is what we're all aiming for.
