i got burnt out at mid 40s on anniversary so i switched to SoD and i’m actually having a blast. Really easy to get back in to the game and catch up, only issue is i’ve struggled finding some dungeon groups but seems to be a lot of stuff going on at max level
Using reals as bad luck protection for T0 sets was peak Classic for me. My guildies and I were expecting to burn out on like Scholomance runs for gear in between raids, but when we saw that the philosophy was now "just do whatever - go play the game" we ended up enjoying that part of 60 so much more.
Not sure I'd want them to stick around as a way to bypass getting T1 or T2 loot :P but this is something I would definitely love to see return in some form in the future.
In my first BWL run 3/4 affix, on paladin, with the 6 extra tokens at the end I only saw a single token drop lol. The bindings… which were 125 reals purchasable.
Next run one more token dropped near the end.
Loot RNG can be horrible and for alts or returning players if you get completely cucked on a class that has strong set bonuses you’re kind of stuck in a bind until you work through that.
Definitely don’t offer current raid tokens through the vendor but it’s kind of needed for t1 and 2 atm with naxx coming out. Shitty gameplay loop being stuck in old raid RNG for a few weeks before you can meaningfully contribute in raids. It’s important to work to gear up. But RNG being the main hurdle for gearing up on non bis kinda sucks.
Granted AQ20 gear is tremendously helpful. ZG kinda feels meh and does not sim well for the classes I created alts.
Well now t2 bracers are 35 tokens, and you can buy your 4 set, and you can fill the only slots with t1 for even cheaper. 150 tokens gets you a well-kitted out character.
You can run MC and BWL for gear, but you also get some bad luck protection as they also drop Reals. And even buying a full set of T1 or 4x T1 and 4 x T2 still means you need a weapon(s), rings, trinkets etc.
And that's where ZG and AQ10 also come in, people run ZG for idols, AQ10 for the 3set, the profession recipes and the mounts.
It all works very well as a gearing up ecosystem that smoothes out the way for a new character to get up to speed quickly, whether that's a new player, an alt, an undergeared recruit for your guild etc etc.
How long does it take to level on SoD these days? I’m also burnt out on anniversary in mid 30s but still have the itch to play, so might give SoD a whirl again.
