Announcements are supposed to come after the market closes at 4pm. We'll see.

187

u/smaguss 4d ago

Well they don't want the market to nosedive upon seeing the announcement immediately like every other time.

28

u/Jimbobsupertramp 4d ago

As if they won’t just react tmrw………. Lol

91

u/pianoflames 4d ago

Announce tariffs, watch the market immediately tank, blame the market crash on DEI and Biden, then delay those tariffs. That seems to be his playbook.

41

u/pistilpeet 4d ago

And his dipshit fan boys will eat that turd sandwich and ask for seconds.

16

u/kamasutures 4d ago

Did.. anything happen?

69

u/Batbrain 4d ago

Largest tax increase on Americans through the massive blanket tariffs, and as of like an hour ago Dow futures are already down 950 points.

19

u/kamasutures 4d ago

Oh good. 🫠

10

u/plasteroid 4d ago

Yes market dumped bigly! Look out below!!

u/plasteroid 4d ago

Market dumped in real time

1

u/supertacoboy 3d ago

It’s bad… like really bad.

506

u/MogwaiYT 4d ago

Liberated from what exactly? These bastards will shaft their own country up the arse and ask it to say thank you afterwards.

191

u/scott__p 4d ago

Liberated from your money, your future, your kid's future, and if you're not white maybe your freedom.

79

u/citrineskye 4d ago

If I could liberate all you non-trump supporting Americans over to Europe, I would. I feel for you guys x

39

u/candlegun 4d ago

Thank you for this; it does help knowing that not the entire world thinks we're all just a bunch of mouthbreathers here

10

u/citrineskye 4d ago

Every time I've visited the US, the people have all been wonderful (well, except some guy begging in San Francisco that kind of cornered me for money, he was less desirable!).

We know it isn't all of the people. We know you guys are facing some massive changes whether you like it or not. We don't like your leader, but (especially in England) we don't much like ours either! We get it x

4

u/Technomancer53 3d ago

Same, grew up pretty proud of where I came from. Now I just feel embarassed and ashamed

13

u/thatG_evanP 4d ago

Thank you. There are a lot of sensible people here that are angry as hell. Oh, and also terrified about our entire way of life coming to an end. It's not much fun at all unless you happen to be a moron, but they'll suffer too. They'll just rationalize and find a way to shift the blame.

3

u/Direct_Wrongdoer5429 3d ago

Thanks. It is nice to know that there are other countries and people from those countries, that understand that a vast majority of the American people do not want nor do we agree with any of the BS this buffoon in the Whitehouse is pulling. He just wants to isolate us from our allies.

It is likely that a lot of us will be liberated from our jobs.

u/avoozl42 3d ago

Liberated from a functional economy

1.1k

u/kingkowkkb1 4d ago

I think he'll make a crazy announcement. The market will tank tomorrow as other countries retaliate, and then he will delay the tariffs, rinse and repeat until your 401k is trash.

310

u/djwurm 4d ago

your 401k is not already trashed??

148

u/PostOfficeBuddy 4d ago

mines gone down by like 5k so far
great, amazing, just the best

65

u/loganwachter 4d ago

I pulled a loan from mine right before it went to shit.

Paid off a bunch of debt and the interest goes right back into my 401K instead of to the bank.

12

u/AnInfiniteArc 4d ago

I literally just deposited the loan check from my 403b this afternoon. Once the rest clears I’ll only owe money to myself.

7

u/Galaxyman0917 4d ago

I did too, seriously lucky timing

58

u/kingkowkkb1 4d ago

There is still room for loss.

15

u/PatacusX 4d ago

Mines not going down because I haven't opened the Voya app in months. If we're not measuring, then is doesn't go down right?

36

u/Antiluke01 4d ago

You can afford a 401K?

35

u/djwurm 4d ago

only cause my employer matches.. but 25 years of adding money to it is basically shit now.. I was told / sold a lie that at some point all the compounding would make me have millions and I could retire

52

u/Cranyx 4d ago

The market is up over 400% since 25 years ago. It was absolutely not a lie that you should invest your savings there for long term planning.

20

u/djwurm 4d ago

but I am not up 400%.. 25 years ago I was barely able to put in anything making scrap. its only been the last 5 where I actually now make decent money to put more back into it.

16

u/Cranyx 4d ago

its only been the last 5 where I actually now make decent money to put more back into it.

Market's up 126% since 5 years ago. Up 71% if you go back a bit further and started investing right before the Covid crash.

6

u/drewster23 4d ago

Market's up 126% since 5 years ago. Up 71% if you go back a bit further and started investing right before the Covid crash.

So ....no where near enough to retire.....

21

u/Cranyx 4d ago

Who told you you'd have enough to retire after 5 years?

11

u/purpleplatapi 4d ago

Yeah it takes like 40 years to save up enough to retire. You can't just invest 5 years ago and expect to retire tomorrow.

5

u/Master_sweetcream 4d ago

But why? I wanna retire now! I’m tired!

14

u/centpourcentuno 4d ago

So you admit to barely putting in anything last 25 years ( not your fault ..we all been there )..but yet you are shocked that compounding pennies didn't result in millions?

I am in the same boat , at some point I didn't even have enough to take advantage of the free match .

I just don't understand your "surprise " that's all

9

u/Uninstall_Fetus 4d ago

You weren’t sold a lie. You just don’t understand how investing works and sounds like you didn’t invest enough.

3

u/ch-12 4d ago

Yeah, this. 401ks are not a lie or a scam. Small contributions aren’t going to compound to huge amounts, but it’s better than nothing for a solid investment vehicle.

And if you can manage it, now is a great time to increase or max out your contributions.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/SaltLakeCitySlicker 4d ago

You can't really time it, but keeping up with putting it in when you feasibly can is always the best strategy because it's not about tomorrow or 6 months from now. Especially if it's in the crapper price wise.

2

u/luckydice767 4d ago

Do you know what holdings you have? There is a HUGE difference between say, a stable value fund vs S&P index fund

4

u/Annas_GhostAllAround 4d ago

The amount you put into it shouldn't impact the percentage return you've gotten over the last 25 years. If you put in $10 or you put in $1,000 the percentage gain wouldn't change...

→ More replies (2)

8

u/EternalVirgin18 4d ago

Compounding interest isn’t a lie, and a 401k is a good investment, but investments are partially based on having a solid, competent government which has its citizens interests in mind.

7

u/M05y 4d ago

Buddy I don't think you get 401ks

19

u/moomooraincloud 4d ago

Compounding interest isn't a lie. And the market has historically always gone up in the long run.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/shwittyOG 4d ago

You are offered a 401k?

5

u/Antiluke01 4d ago

I am, but I don’t make enough to set aside money for it because I have to pay rent, food, car, insurance, and I’m in one of the most expensive states. It is not for a lack of trying either. It’s just hard out here. I don’t even pay for health insurance.

3

u/sammidavisjr 4d ago

Does your employer match? Because that's just throwing away free money if you don't at least contribute what they do.

4

u/Antiluke01 4d ago

Yeah but even with matching, which I don’t think they do, that’s good out of my mouth immediately. If I can’t survive to see that money then there’s no point. Looking at another job that supposedly pays more now.

6

u/PupEDog 4d ago

Wanna be friends at Walmart when we're working there at age 80?

→ More replies (2)

5

u/itssosalty 4d ago

I mean when did it start? Dow Jones is up 100% today from five years ago.

Market has dipped but there has been a bit of overreaction on retirement impact. This isn’t the COVID crash.

2

u/NobodyImportant13 4d ago

The S&P500 is only down about ~7.5% from the peak right now. It's barely even gone down. I think the market is predicting he will back off these crazy tariffs.

4

u/HoptimusPryme 4d ago

That's a hell of a gamble, he's far too unpredictable

Don't worry, the billionaires will make even more money by having a heads up on his announcements.

I'm sure they'll finally take care of us when they have all of the dollars.

/s

16

u/bullet4mv92 4d ago

It'll trickle down aaaaaany day now

7

u/DescartesB4tehHorse 4d ago

I know yall are making fun but man does this shit piss me off. How has anyone ever thought trickle down works? It's not like there's a cap on bank accounts that once you hit it any extra you make overflows to the next largest account and so on down the line. There's no external force making the money trickle down. Bank accounts are not cups and money is not water.

Again, I know you weren't being serious, im just venting.

7

u/bullet4mv92 4d ago

An embarrassing amount of the population definitely thinks it, or they think they'll be millionaires soon and it won't matter if it trickles down or not because they'll be on top.

It pisses me off, too, but most I can personally do is make fun of those idiots.

6

u/no_one_likes_u 4d ago

I think the idea of 'trickle down' is that the richest people are the 'job creators'. People starting companies, investing in companies, buying a lot of stuff, etc. So when they take their money and start or help start up companies or buy things, those companies then employ people. Ideally, those employees make a good wage, and then they've got disposable income to save/spend/etc to improve their quality of life. That's the 'trickle down' part of it.

What actually happens is that billionaires hoard obscene amounts of money and when they do start companies they try their hardest to screw every person who works for them. They also use their money to lobby congress and support candidates that take away our freedoms and protections to give them more power.

I agree with you that it doesn't work, but it never had anything to do with bank accounts getting so full they overflow and money flowing down to smaller bank accounts lol

4

u/DescartesB4tehHorse 4d ago

But thats often the way it's displayed, like a tower of cups with water flowing into the top and overflowing the cups gradually filling the whole tower.

Even if it's not bank accounts, my point is there is no external force making it trickle down. There's no pressure making those people start companies and employ people. There's obviously no external force that makes them treat workers fairly.

There's no "gravity" in the situation and there's no physical limit to how much "water" the cups can hold. Thats was really my point.

46

u/frotc914 4d ago

Yeah the part that some people still don't seem to understand is that it's not like Trump has a bad plan; he has NO plan. He's literally just picking day by day how much he wants to fuck the economy.

22

u/dylc 4d ago

He has concepts of a plan

8

u/Efficient_Mobile_391 4d ago

There's a plan, it's just not his

7

u/Lordnoallah 4d ago

Hell, he's trying to put tariffs on the fentanyl coming in....and people wonder how he bankrupted a jersey casino. He's an idiot plain and simple.

Thank god.  That’s been a big problem for me.

3

u/undercurrents 4d ago

Obviously the Canadian fentanyl "threat" is complete bs and doesn't actually exist. But to spout actual fact,

Fentanyl smuggling is ultimately funded by U.S. consumers who pay for illicit opioids: nearly 99 percent of whom are U.S. citizens.

In 2021, U.S. citizens were 86.3 percent of convicted fentanyl drug traffickers—ten times greater than convictions of illegal immigrants for the same offense.

Over 90 percent of fentanyl seizures occur at legal crossing points or interior vehicle checkpoints, not on illegal migration routes, so U.S. citizens (who are subject to less scrutiny) when crossing legally are the best smugglers.

The location of smuggling makes sense because hard drugs at ports of entry are about 97 percent less likely to be stopped than are people crossing illegally between them.

Just 0.02 percent of the people arrested by Border Patrol for crossing illegally possessed any fentanyl whatsoever.

The government exacerbated the problem by banning most legal cross border traffic in 2020 and 2021, accelerating a switch to fentanyl (the easiest-to-conceal drug).

My insane MAGA neighbor this morning was just glowing ready and waiting to rub something in my face as I was trying to ask him to give me a check for his portion on the fence I just replaced (and he agreed to pay) about this announcement is that federal taxes would be completely eliminated as its unconstitutional or something.

I was like ok sure.. I know I heard something about this before faintly but it would be shocking as the announcement today as its just been the word tariff stuck in his head every morning he wakes up..

I cant wait to go back home tonight and say ok so more tariffs which means everything cost more is winning how in your eyes?

8

u/dangerdavedsp 4d ago

Well what did your neighbor say.

3
