Thoughts on Dan Jones? (Medieval History)

Looking to read some more about the Middle Ages. I know he deals more in pop history but I’m by no means above that; I’ve just gotten some great recs from this sub before and wanted to see what others thought.

Conversely, does anyone know of any more materialist analysis of the Middle Ages as well?

I'm unawares of Dan Jones but will check it out. I found this through a Matt appearance and have subscribed since, We're Not So Different. Eleanor is a medievalist with a PhD

I think she was also a guest on one of the appendix episodes of Hell On Earth.

I think both Dan Jones and Eleanor Janega are on podcasts through History Hit as well. Eleanor is a co-host of Gone Medieval and I think Dan Jones might just be a frequent guest or has made some long form videos for them.

Love him for a general understanding of events told in an entertaining/page turning style.

Dan Jones is a favorite author of Patrick Wyman, and his book Sumer of Blood is VERY fun (peasant revolt)
