Other Post Type Ban “Should I major in GD” posts already
Seriously…
It goes against the sub’s rule 6, No repeated posts. It gets posted every single day, multiple times a day.

If you're gonna do that then you'll need to ban posts asking about what computer to buy, threads about how bad/good AI is, posts about people burned out after working as a graphic designer, and posts about designers who can't find work. Oops, then you'd have an empty subreddit.

The portfolio reviews are ok with me IF… they ask a valid question, like “what other pieces should I include?”
Not the: “Here’s my portfolio on Google Drive, I can’t find any work, help me!” posts.

Why does everyone use this as an argument? I'd much rather see nothing than a bunch of uninteresting spam.

If only people came here to talk about... design, or something.
For a sub with this one's name there is very little design talk happening here. Occasionally you get a newbie posting a "critique my stuff" or "check out my portfolio" post but that is about it.

Yes exactly – AI was starting to creep it's way into our workflows but wasn't super useful for 90% of what we do. I think that's going to change in a huge way. We were considering signing a 5 year lease for a new studio but how can we commit to that with no idea what the industry looks like 5 years from now...

Any idea if mods have been taking action on those reports? I will say I've noticed they pretty much never remove reported memes, despite rule 5 saying "Memes will be removed."
As far as I know, anyway, a good way to check this is to go to your profile page (desktop) and click the Hidden tab (reported posts are marked Hidden by default).

We have. I'll tell you, truthfully, the mod team is very thin rn. A bunch of mods had kids, one is away for school, and it's like 1-2 active mods. :X We're about to start recruiting for more mods.

Appreciate the info, and that's certainly understandable. We just had to bring on a few more mods to help with r/illustration to ensure mods have proper mod/life balance lol, so I know how that goes. Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for recruitment, because I'd be glad to help.

We need like a FAQ, or Megathread for topics like reviewing resumes, Ai, job search, education, and computer specs/ recommendations. Those seem to be the most common posts I see on a daily-basis.

It's been tried. People don't read them. They don't search, they don't read the pinned post (which really is an FAQ).
In Reddit in general, people come to start their own conversations. For better or for worse, that's what they want. This sub is now a great resource for information on the topic of graphic design, but it's not and will never be treated that way. Instead you could wipe out all the posts over a week old and most people would never notice. What people want is to have a collection of members who answer questions in near real time.

Idk that it’s really about what people want as much as it is about how Reddit is designed.
Evidently a lot of people also hate this, given how often niche subs also have posts complaining about being overwhelmed by the same low-effort posts every day.

I think it’s both. Reddit’s design encourages this. I don’t know that any site could be popular and self-sustaining if it was primarily a repository for existing information. The behavior reinforces the design and vice versa.
Other subs definitely have this. I’m in the videography sub and they want to ban several common types of posts like, “should I buy this camera or this camera?“ And similarly, “should I buy the latest model of this camera or wait for the next one?“. People also ask if that career is worth getting into, where do you get clients, How much should they charge, and variations on the many of the popular repeat topics that we see here.

I get that it may be “what people want” but plenty of other subs I follow have banned repeated questions. This sub should follow suit and ban “What kind of computer should I buy?” and “Should I study design in college?”

I think we should go a step further and ban ppl from even studying graphic design
