Question - Solved Siege Defender Questions

Playing HOTA 1.7.1 w/HDmod vs 160% AI

I attacked a hero who was standing on the map in the visiting hero position of his town. The battle was siege mode with him defending. This was a surprise to me as I expected us to fight in open field as he was, so I thought, only a visiting hero. So, what happens in the following cases (i.e. one fight after another / combined forces):

  1. A hero is attacked who is standing in the visiting hero position and his respective town also has a garrisoned hero.
  2. A hero is attacked who is standing in the visiting hero position and his respective town also has a garrison force, but no garrisoned hero.

Thanks

SOLUTION --> lrydion:
1. First fight against the visiting hero, outside of the castle. Second fight against the garrisoned hero in the castle.
2. Fight in the castle against the merged army of the hero and the garrison (by AI value). If there is not enough space for all units (more than 7 types of units between the hero and the garrison), the highest AI value stacks will be prioritized for the fight with the hero. The lowest AI value stacks that are not in the fight will just disappear.

Thanks lrydion - very informative.

For case #1, does the attacker have the opportunity to opt out of the second fight, or do the fights happen one after the other without any such opportunity?

You have to use another movement to trigger the second fight. Sometimes, having a visiting hero and a garrisoned hero will save your town if the attacker has just enough movement points to reach the town.

Thanks for the help.

That is very infrequent isn’t it? Then you can put another barrier of three heroes outside of the gate?

Wasting one movement for your opponent for the price of just one hero is often worth it (nearly always worth it on rich maps). Wasting one movement for 3 heroes if you want to block outside the castle is much less cost efficient.

Is it half a movement? Never checked but the front of town seems to be road

Have you even played the game once in your life? You don't go inside the castle to attack it. You stop one square before... That's why you need one more move after the siege to enter the castle.
