Fluff Going strong (random map generator)
Started without resources. Just need to skip a month and maybe I'll be able to afford freeing the mill.

Does using the boat in that weather seem like a bad idea?

Highest difficulty + strong monsters = 50+ of them and keep growing. I can't afford losing too many troops to have some army to sail with. Also, given how wood - dependent Fortress is, I have to not built anything for 5 days to even afford the boat -_-

Yeah but on the other hand the flotsam that you'd pick up would surely pay back the investment with more wood?

Can't argue with that, but I bet with the current tempo as soon as I sail, some strong hero arrives from that dungeon

Yeah possibly. What Month/Week/Day is this? I'd be tempted to load my day 1 auto-save and try with a boat strat :P

Just tried it, in fact it's possible to sail on week 1 (35 leprechaun) with barely any army, and the water around isn't particularly generous :)

Fair enough! Will you abandon this game or do you intend to keep going with this play through? I'd be interested to hear how it turns out! It's a shame this game doesn't keep 'seeds' of random maps like in Slay the Spire I'd like to see how I can do!

Tried my best but the odds stacked too much against me I guess to pull this off. There's just tiny island near similar to mine, with a second castle (Necro) and some mines around, and while I try to gather some army off them, powerful heroes with lvl 6 creatures start to come from the dungeon, where I guess things are much more greater than on the surface. The map's size is S btw, I managed to defense my Fortress against stronger hero, then quickly going to dungeon and capture one of his castles right near the entrance, but can't defend it from another powerful hero that comes shortly, and that's game over from there.

I see yes I think I've encountered something a bit similar to this on another Small / Islands map, with nearly everything being water, and tiny distances linking the underground to your base. Well thanks for humouring my random ideas anyhow :)

Thats why I always disable water on rng maps. Map generation is bad enough as it is

Leprechauns are really easy enemy for week 1 though? Gnolls and lizards match their speed on native terrain so you can outsmart them with your starting army. If you have money for a boat just beat them up and sail to another island.

its just goblins in swamp tho... unless you started with town, city capitol buildorder, then thats on you.

You really need to rush the water on maps that have a lot of water. Boats typically pay for themselves on the first day out to sea by collecting floatsoms and sea chests. You can get some AMAZING artifacts from the shipwreck survivors as well.
Don't underestimate the power of a week 1 army--especially on Fortress! You should be able to defeat those leprechauns with proper tactics. Use your seprent flies to control leprechaun movement by keeping them on the right side of the battlefield, and allow them to approach your lizards and gnolls one stack at a time.

Yeah, I've managed the fight (35 leprechauns), but still with substantial troop loss, I guess the map could be doable perhaps, but I only managed to do what I describe in some comments above. Without starting resources the odds stacked too much to keep up with the hero in the dungeon who gets more resources and places to level up and easily gets two castles without the need to sail between them.

Is that a new faction?

No, but I think Fortress' visual on the map was changed in Hota quite some time ago

An isolationist Fortress tribe led by the great Beastmaster ... emerges into the world on month 2!
Bro I wanna play that map so badly now! :D You got a save file?
What size is the map? How many enemy players?

It's an S size duel, the hero in the underground got two castles without the need to sail between two tiny islands. I wrote about my experience here in the comments, if you'd still like it I can look for a day one save

Ah. That makes it less epic.
If it was 6-8 players on like L or XL map with underground that could be quite the game.
But yeah, on a duel your best bet is to just wait in your town and try to defend vs their initial attack.

Water and rmg are not a great pair
