Question What is the concensus on retrying battles?
With HD Mod and HoTA, there is now an easy way to retry at battle if you're not happy with the results. This used to require 'cheating' by saving before the battle and loading the save. But now that the option is there, is it considered part of the game and completely legitimate?

If single player you decide if multiplayer vote

You can't do that in multiplayer to begin with, it's a singleplayer-only convenience replacement for what you could always do by exiting to menu.

Was just gonna save scum anyway. If I think I could swing it if I did a little better, why not try?

Yeah, it's like a puzzle. I'll retry battles a bunch of times to see about preventing enemy retreat, or losing less units, or something to that tune.

Yeah the QOL improvement is great. I used to play but have never been good at it. Restarted HOTA the only issue I find is wood and ore mines seem harder to come by and sometimes require fights to reach. Seems like wood and ore were givens in the original from what I remember.

Some maps have these challenge fights, where the main idea is retrying a bunch of times to learn the enemy AI's spells and behaviours to counter them.

There are no illegitimate ways to play non-competitive single player games. This is an entertainment product and you should use it the way you find most entertaining, whether that’s save scumming everything or no reloading or anywhere in between. I personally love save scumming castle defenses against superior armies to try to see if I can solve the puzzle of how to win a bad fight
