I hate saving before desicions in this game, but a Scholar I feel is a must.

Same goes for witch hut, but at least you could send a side hero to see what skill it was. God I love the QOL improvements

That's why one always saves before seeing the scholar

That's why I always send a fully-skilled (or sacrificial) hero into the tent first.

Or Learning… that’s an FML

In Hota 1.7.2 learning is so hot!

Even taking it on the main hero's sometimes, when the map is small!

i introduced a friend to HoMM3 and he said he wanted to try it vanilla for the first time. thankfully I talked sense into him lol. there is absolutely no reason to suffer anymore

You gotta have him try vanilla so he appreciates the improvements afterwards :)

I double this. Me and my mum have been playing Homm3 almost since release back in the day and were really happy with all the changes introduced by mods. Recently we've decided to revisit vanilla and despite pure hillarious obliteration of AI opponents via unnerfed necromancy and diplomacy there is 0 point to revisit it by now. The amount of QoL improvements really make vanilla "clunky" at best.

you should absolutely start vanilla, you ruined your friend's experience

after playing this game for 25 years straight, I can't think of a single reason not to play HotA instead. it's the same game but better in every way (unless you really like balance-breaking exploits, which I understand bc I used to play Necro lol).

Most casual players don't realize the broken stuff on their own so the balance is unnecessary for them. Also most of the legendary challenge maps are SoD and cannot really be played on HotA because they weren't balanced for it and it tends to break the map design. It's also just less stuff to learn for a beginner. HotA also has a lot of contrived stuff that doesn't really fit the original design of the game and sticks out like a sore thumb, especially in the two new factions.

Cove and Factory feel so much more natural than Conflux - that one sticks out like a sore thumb to me. the QOL improvements, bug fixes, new structures, etc., seem so worth it. I didn't like campaigns as much as good maps anyway. Daggerwin Valley alone is more fun than anything in the basegame IMHO. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree

I'm not talking about the campaigns, I'm talking about user-made maps.

In WoG thats such a nice QoL that you can choose to refuse...
