Best campaign hero builds
New forum follower, old time HOMM3 player. I've searched and hasn't found it. What's YOUR best selection for secondary skills for the campaign heroes like Gelu, Sandro, Crag, etc?

I was in the mood for Heroes and I remembered that I already bought 5 in GOG years ago, so I tried 5.5.
I would love the game, but the AI is cheating so hard even on the lowest setting that it made me drop the game.
I'm not a great player, but I tried playing as efficient as I can, and the enemy heroes are always challenging difficulty, no matter what I do they have so much more creatures than me.
But since I love the general gameplay, I'm thinking about getting this and trying Hota, Wog and all the big mods.
How is the AI in 3? Is it also cheating in every difficulty, or is there a setting for balanced games for average players that are not too easy, not too hard?

Don’t think I’ve seen necromancy pop up for non-necro heroes. Won’t take it, but how interesting

So I've recently bought HoMaM4 off of gog for $2.49. and I can honestly say I can't get enough. It's a little poor in the quality, but the game itself is a masterpiece. Don't get me wrong, it has nothing on heroes, or the classic heroes2 gold. But this game gets way to much hate from everyone for being as awesome as it is.
Please I wanna hear everyone else's opinions on this. This game is underrated.

I am coming to HOMM3 from a long break. I have the Complete version from GoG. Whenever I boot up the game, it's displaying in classic 4:3 aspect ratio. When I was playing before, the game's aspect ratio would be such that it filled my entire 16:9 monitor's screen. I much prefer the way that looked. No matter what setting I try to adjust I can't seem to get HOMM 3 to display widescreen.
Given that HOMM3 was originally a 4:3 game I thought I might be misremembering, but I've tried HOMM2 as well as several of the Chronicles titles and those are all booting straight into widescreen.
Can anyone help me adjust some setting somewhere to get back to a 16:9 display?

I was wondering what the life expectancy of genies is according to theories. It is said in Thane's lore that he is really old, and that he has been serving Bracada for years, that even the elders don't remember a time without him. So I was wondering if genies could die of old age or if their only way to die is if they get killed.

So.... this happened.
Been playing the SoD campaign. Got past the Sandro one, and on to the big one where all the high level heroes clash. There's 4 missions right at the beginning of the 6th campaign, and you're supposed to transfer over your heroes from previous campaigns.
I recalled (and got a character editor to fix this, don't judge me) that despite what it promises, you don't actually get the heroes as they were per whatever you had at the end of the previous campaigns, you instead get generic level 25 heroes. But when I went to the first new Germ mission, I got Clancy, and..... Elleshar. An Elleshar who doesn't actually have the skill his specialty indicates too. (And I'm missing the 30 grand elves I selected as a starting bonus, but that's a bit less important.
Anyone have any idea how this happened? Fortunately, I've got past saves right before the ends of the campaigns, so I wouldn't lose that much progress, but I'm worried about this happening again. So if anyone has any information, that would be very helpful. And if not, I hope you can at least get some entertainment out of the weirdness.

When I started playing Battle Brothers I was struck immediately by how much the towns, even graphically but also designwise, are inspired by classic HoMM3. Love this sort of easily readable artstyle in games, but here it feels almost like a love letter (in part because of the turn based combat, but more so just visually).
PS Battle Brothers is also among the few "strategic" RPGs (HoMM-like to some degree?) that I truly liked, and I think the HoMM connection was crucial (the upcoming Battle-Brothers inspired Happy Bastards also seems promising, though...)

This seems especially good for Dungeon and mage guild in general. Now Pillar of Eyes isn’t a bottleneck. Does anyone think this is a bad change since Dungeon is already good?

The distance a hero can travel on the adventure map is determined at the start of the day by the speed of their slowest creature and any relevant movement artifacts. Changes made afterwarddo not affect their movement.
Good tip: End your turn in the mine and place your slowest units as guards. You will have more movement the next day.

If you update ERA Project to version 2.172 via Heroes Launcher, when generating a random map, you will be asked the question - "Do you wanna have a bad time?", if you answer yes, you will be in for a "nice surprise" when you go to recruit units in the town.

Pretty much this. I loved heroes growing up and this HOTA update is amazing.
What exactly happened for this to occur?
