So.... this happened.

Been playing the SoD campaign. Got past the Sandro one, and on to the big one where all the high level heroes clash. There's 4 missions right at the beginning of the 6th campaign, and you're supposed to transfer over your heroes from previous campaigns.

I recalled (and got a character editor to fix this, don't judge me) that despite what it promises, you don't actually get the heroes as they were per whatever you had at the end of the previous campaigns, you instead get generic level 25 heroes. But when I went to the first new Germ mission, I got Clancy, and..... Elleshar. An Elleshar who doesn't actually have the skill his specialty indicates too. (And I'm missing the 30 grand elves I selected as a starting bonus, but that's a bit less important.

Anyone have any idea how this happened? Fortunately, I've got past saves right before the ends of the campaigns, so I wouldn't lose that much progress, but I'm worried about this happening again. So if anyone has any information, that would be very helpful. And if not, I hope you can at least get some entertainment out of the weirdness.

Shortly after his rise to power he easily won the Festival of Life thirty years ago. Duke Boragus has an affinity for controlling ogres in battle so gets a bonus with them.

Quick wit my ass. I present Exhibit A; the Shadow of Death Birth of A Barbarian Campaign. Here, Duke Boragus wants to recruit Yog as a warlord. Okay, I might have wanted a barbarian warlord who wasn't completely averse to casting any spells whatsoever, but Yog's pretty good despite his magical handicap.

I can even sort of understand if you make it a little tough on him and force him to fight his way to you, as long as the troops expended were well, expendable.

But then, to test his willingness to set magic aside (seriously, why do you want that? Magic is useful! Expert Haste makes the Stronghold work.), he tasks Yog with taking the Angelic Alliance, smashing it to pieces, and scattering those pieces across half of Antagarich. Which implied that he already possessed an absurdly powerful compound artifact and just...... passed it off to a guy he met for the first time a couple of hours ago in the expectation that he would ruin what is again an earth-shatteringly powerful piece of equipment.

How can Boragus be anything other than a complete imbecile? What part of any of this makes sense?

Hello everybody. I am a gamedev student who has to make a new faction with 7 units a new map, 6 new spells, 2 new heroes, playable mechanics and a new campain for heroes 3 with something called prefferable terrain and strategy but the problem is I don't know what the f is heroes 3 and each piece of media I consume about it confuses me even more since it assumes I already know the game. I don't have time to play it or waste on more useless things, I just want to be done with this assigment. Apparently there is also a build in map maker and scenatio maker in the game but I cannot find those eather. Can somebody please help? You are my last chance on getting this right

Say Eagle Eye is gone, and all heroes who specialize in it now have new specialties. Would you miss it?

Like literally never in my whole life did i use one single spell. And now when i go back to this game and want to use them in absolutely confused. Because i learnt all other mechanics i don’t struggle with them but without any experience magic is so hard to learn. Any tips?

I got the Heroes 3 boardgame last week and it's been so fun to actually use stuff like Mirth, Fireball, Eagle Eye, Learning etc. Obviously the effects are very different in tabletop, but I think it's a shame that there's so much in the video game that you basically never get to use.

I mean there are what - a hundred spells? Each with their own unique animation and sound effect, and yet we just spam the same 10 or so OP ones we've been spamming since we were kids. I think a lot of spells just need number tweaks to shine.

When it comes to levelling, we all know Learning, Eagle Eye, First Aid Tent etc. are straight up a slot penalty for your hero. In the board game I'm actually using First Aid and it's strong! If every specialty was at least pickable, it would potentially unlock a lot more winning strategies.

The HOTA version gets regular balance patches, so I'm curious why the devs don't try to improve some of these completely forgotten parts of the game. Have they ever talked about it?

Saw in another thread some opinions on eagle eye and decided to make my own thread. One user suggested to merge eagle eye with scholar since they are kinda two sides of the same coin.

I appreciate the changes the hota team have done to the skill but it's such a weird and goofy mechanic. Maybe it's useful on larger maps with a lot of fights when you're spell starved? But that's already niche and you could be building your own mages guild anyway. Plus now we have research as well.

Some ideas to jumpstart the discussion:

*Shift the skill from combat oriented to map oriented - show the precise number of enemies on the map, if there is an upstack, make it just show (not learn) the enemy spells if you right click them before the combat starts. Or maybe make it show what arties the oppo has equipped. Mix and match what would be available for the appropriate skill level.

*Just buff the percentages. If you'd be guaranteed to learn all the spells on expert before the fight that would still make it a goofy ass skill. Very random as it just depends on your opponent.

*Roll scholar and eagle eye into one. Maybe it wouldn't be that painful to get either one of them haha

Hi, I recently downloaded HoTA mod for HoMM3 - Complete edition (from gog). It works like a charm, but it seems I miss some heroes in the new factions (Cove, Factory) roster. For example, I see videos or in the wiki a hero named "Evocacius" in the Cove heroes roster, but I'cant chose him at start when i'm selecting this faction.

Why ? Is there another mod available ? I got the 1.7.2 version, which seems the more up to date for HoTA.

We’ve been playing Vikings we shall go (allies). We are on month 7 and been looking for the dead man’s boots for about 2 months (so we can bring it to the seers hut and get the State man’s medal). We have cleared every treasure guarded by monsters and all enemies have been killed except for purple, behind the quest guard.

We have used view air too many times to count and we’re sure this isn’t on the map. Our only thought is that purple somehow got the artifact and brought it behind the quest guard. Could that be possible? If so, I think our adventure will cease.

If you have any advice for us, we’ll send you about 100 arch devils that we’ve collected in return for information.

Does the AI in VCMI follow the same rules as in the base game? Like underestimating the troops, moving into enemy territory and so on? Like in this article?

Is it early game? Advice on this

Crazy thing about this game is I've been playing for decades and still don't know some of the tech:

1) Do they have to scout the map or can they see everything? Wondering if it's worth it to try hiding a weak hero away from AI's nearby strong hero by ending turn in a perceived dark spot when I have a scouting advantage.

2) The AI clearly knows how to abuse "Wait" with fast and ranged units because you can see them perform it in a pitched battle. So why is it that when I'm rolling around with a medium-sized army early on with fast dudes and shooters, they can't auto-battle mobs without taking losses so I have to enter the battle and coordinate the fight? Shouldn't it be able to wait-abuse and generate a loss-less fight? Not a big deal but would be nice to avoid tedium of waiting and shooting hordes of Treants all the time.

Hi new player here. I downloaded the Horn of Abyss extension/mod as i have seen people recommend, But when looking at campaigns i only see HotA campaign and not the other ones?

Mine is Ivor because my favorite strategy is rushing Elves as Rampart for easy clear :)

I'm curious about the maximum possible map size. I've been thinking about wanting to create and play a stupidly large map, and I'm wondering if there are any hard limitations, either in the game engine or by practical considerations.

Specifically, I'd like to know: * Are there any engine limitations that prevent maps from exceeding a certain size (e.g., memory, pathfinding, object limits)? * Are there any practical limitations, like long turn times or instability, that become problematic with very large maps? * Are there any mods or tools that can potentially bypass these limitations? * Are there any examples of exceptionally large maps that people have created? (Beyond G-sized maps)

Ive played all the HoMMs 1,2,3 quite extensively, loved them all. Played 4 an adequate amount (no reason to talk about that one) and 5 a decent amount but 5 never sucked me in like the previous games.

Im not too sure why, its the same formula, the graphics were great but i can't say why it didn't stick. Maybe it felt it looked more like a Warhammer game? Im not too sure.

Wondering peoples thoughts on the games after 3, how you feel about them? I remember a long time ago being excited about a 6 that was coming out but i never heard about it since

I’m playing the Unholy Alliance campaign where EVERY secondary skill is already chosen for your main 4 heroes, despite previous campaigns telling you they’d carry over (they don’t). So I got through half of the main campaign on Hard difficulty and realized one of my barbs didn’t even have wisdom as a skill so I just restarted again and again till I got decent skills (yes I know barbs aren’t focused on magic but magic is so OP).

And when I read certain guides they have Gelu using spells like Resurrection but I never got that spell in previous scenarios. It feels like RNG if you’re gonna get the best spells. I was stuck on Agents of Vengeance cause only Gelu could fly past the garrison but couldn’t take all the towns by himself (and If I waited too long to fight the garrison normally the computer gets the best spells and troops). I turned the difficulty to normal and feel like a noob but this campaign is soooo long and dependent on getting good spells/secondary skills from the get-go to get through it.

Anyway I like to play homm3 just to play with our history, I love the HOTA mod mainly because we get 2 new towns and was hoping there are more mods with: history, gameplay/campaign that offer different towns or creatures Thanks
