How long to take trazodone for sleep?

So I’ve always been a night owl but about 6 weeks ago I had a week were I stayed up overnight never falling asleep 3x. So I went I my doc and was prescribed 50mg trazodone which didn’t help so the next week I got 100mg. It’s helped wonderfully and I’ve slept good every night since other than 2 nights where I tried to not take it and was up late because of it. So my q is how long do I take it? Everywhere I read online says it’s ok for short term use like a month but then I see ppl on Reddit saying they’ve taken it every night for 10 years. Do I need to start tapering down? What if 100mg is my sweet spot and going down affects my sleep? I’m confused on what to do

I took it for 7 years but when I had to get off of it I've been having the worst rebound insomnia ever.

You can take it however long you want. But personally, as it helps you sleep, build a good foundation of sleep. Increase/improve your sleep hygein then when you're ready to quit, gradually taper off and see how you feel.

Why don’t you just take the medication that helps you sleep?

Thank you for the responses. I was just concerned when i read it should only be used short term but I feel better knowing ppl have taken it long term. I guess I’ll take it until it stops working which hopefully it won’t cuz honestly I’ve never slept so good in my life. I feel for the ppl I’ve read that had bad experiences or that it didn’t help them at all.
