Oh god that video makes me die laughing every time I watch it. Poor lady.

Is that a person? lol

Yeah. It was a 74 year-old hiker that was injured on the trail and they came to rescue her. I feel terrible for laughing but the scenario is just so absurd, it cracks me up. Imagine you break your leg hiking and think you’re getting a quick flight out of there only to undergo astronaut training on the way to the hospital!

NASA should have given her a mission patch or something. At least she got some money from the city of Phoenix.

She won a crap ton of money recently. She tried to refuse the airlift and they made her go anyway

I mean, did she expect to be carried back down the trail? Should they have just left her there? I genuinely can't see a different course of action for a 74yo with a broken leg.

u/GingerSnapped818 15d ago

There was no broken leg, someone I guess assumed that in here. She tripped and had become disoriented. Google it, it happened in Phoenix. Where I live, which is why I'm familiar with this story

5

u/doubleapowpow 15d ago

Getting hit with the airlift bill is disorienting enough. This is just cruel and unusual punishment.

2

u/Dial_M_For_Mudkips 14d ago

Well I'm sure that fixed her disorientation right up.

$450,000. They got off light imo

Wow thanks for the context. I laughed because I thought it was from a movie it was so ridiculous

It was made worst though, her husband later said it wasn't funny and that she was still dizzy several days later.

8

u/thatsucksabagofdicks 15d ago

The fact her husband says it wasn’t funny actually makes it even more funny. I think that’s what makes it so funny to begin with is because it’s the laughing at a funeral thing

1

u/prairiepanda 15d ago

Uh if I'm laughing at a funeral it's because of emotional dysregulation, not because anything is funny

.... SEE MOM CHILD ME WASN'T THE CRAZY ONE!!

I remember my mom being so fricking pissed as she tried to tell my adhd autism self to be serious but something in my brain was just so funny I couldn't...

We ended up driving around a little longer when my mom already went to the funeral my dad had told her she'd scold me but just did nothing about it,

I'm sure great grandma understood though!

3

u/prairiepanda 15d ago

Yeah it's not that the funeral is funny, it's just that my brain thinks big emotion = big emotional response, without any consideration for what flavour that response is going to be.

It can be especially awkward when the Wheel of Emotional Misfortune lands on "CLIMB A TREE RIGHT NOW"

But that's what they mean. You laugh at a funeral and it's not something you want to be doing, or because it's funny. It just happens.

1

u/prairiepanda 15d ago

I guess I misunderstood because they said it "makes it even more funny" and "that's what makes it so funny to begin with"

So what they really mean isn't that it's actually funny, but just that it induces laughter?

It's not funny at all, it's absolutely horrific

18

u/TheFriendshipMachine 15d ago

only to undergo astronaut training on the way to the hospital!

Holy hell the way you worded this had me absolutely dying of laughter all over again. It really is one of those terrible but too absurd not to laugh at types of situations though.

u/cadelot 16d ago

The comments on the YouTube.

I'm crying I laughed so hard.

Hope she's okay.

5

u/solarssun 15d ago

Luckily my SO is night shift tonight because I'm cry laughing at the comments in bed.

3

u/Jairoalbou 15d ago

She's ready to drive a F1 lmao

2

u/kyridwen 15d ago

Oh my god it just kept getting worse and worse!

1

u/s0l0d0l0_92 15d ago

Holy. Shit.

1

u/ImperfectMay 15d ago

I thought it was she broke her nose? She had insisted on walking herself back out, but they basically forced her into the hele-evac which resulted in the spinning, more injury from resultant compressed discs and broken vertebrae, and physical therapy.

1

u/omgwutd00d 15d ago

Oh yeah, I don’t remember what her injuries were just that she fell and was air lifted out. I should have worded my hypothetical situation differently.

7

u/DrawohYbstrahs 16d ago

Even more hilarious that she was so old. I mean fuck… 😵 😂

50

u/murse_curse 16d ago

It sends me into a tear-steamed wheeze every time. She starts off SO slow and then just launches into orbit

17

u/Mega__Sloth 16d ago

Omg i just went through this. It’s so horrible I can’t stop imagining it was my grams and then I’m like “grama noooo!” And then I can’t stop laughing

15

u/mothflavor 15d ago

free bird solo

1

u/Despondent-Kitten 15d ago

I cannot actually think of much worse on that scenario

It must have been absolutely fucking horrible

u/LDGreenWrites 16d ago

Was looking for this specifically

2

u/Not_Not_Matt 15d ago

Hahahaha same!

2

u/phbalancedshorty 15d ago

MY FIRST THOUGHT

2

u/brightcolormom 15d ago

Well I’m definitely going to hell for how hard I laughed at this

1

u/SneedyK 15d ago

You’re going to have plenty of company.

Since the day it was in the news someone somewhere feels bad for laughing. I get it.

2

u/Expert_Pressure_6092 15d ago

That poor lady...

1

u/TerrorSnow 15d ago

Oh no...

1

u/lostdude1 15d ago

No time for caution starts playing . Cooper starts docking

1

u/Vigorously_Swish 15d ago

lmfao forgot about this

1

u/Turbulent-Good227 15d ago

Lmaoo. I swear if I ever have to be lifted out like this I’m just gonna try to die instead, the spinning stretcher looks like the most awful experience.
