/r/all Ryan Waller, a 22-year-old man who, despite having a bullet in his eye, endured 4 hours of interrogation by cops who thought he was lying—only to receive medical help too late.

Every single person arrested should have a medical examination BEFORE put into full custody

While I agree with the sentiment I don't think we have enough medical professionals available for that.

What do you think money is? If we printed a bajillion dollars for everyone, would we all be able to buy everything?

Im saying no-one should be able to be a bijillionare. The only way some can accumulate that much wealth is exploiting an already lower class. The McDonalds ceo isnt rich because he flipped the most burgers. They’re rich because they exploit workers by not paying them enough to live on.

Why such an arbitrary amount? Everyone was a billionaire in Tanzania during their runaway hyperinflation. Did they suddenly become rich exploiters?

Like, literally just open an econ 101 book. You're so incredibly illiterate, it's embarrassing.

There were 7.55million arrests in 2023 as a point of reference.

Not all arrests involve criminal or delinquent offenses. In top of that, not all arrests for criminal or delinquent offenses involve detention. So the number being discussed is much lower

good police dpts (lol, i know) require a physical exam for weapons/substances that also includes a general health exam, and on intake require a more thorough physical health exam.

a strong majority only require the weapon search, which still gets botched or forgotten often.

I agree. A lot of cops have basic medical training and be able to do a quick scan of the person when they are in custody. Are they coherent, breathing, responsive, in pain, in the right state of mind to be able to answer questions legally. This guy was clearly out of it and their lack of a response to his medical emergency is so fucked up.

This is litterally the bare minimum standard that would prevent so many deaths in custody, plus it would actually protect departments from lawsuits when someone dies from a pre-existing condition.

This happens in most of the more civilised world.

Was this guy even arrested though? I think he was just being questioned.

They still held him against his will and didn’t allow his request for medical attention
