Don’t talk to cops. If they want to talk to you, tell them you need an attorney. Cops are always collecting evidence. They might seem like they just want to have a conversation but they are actually trying to trick you into saying something incriminating.

I have watched enough police interrogations to know you have to be very clear in your phrasing. Saying you need an attorney can be interpreted as a general statement, not as invoking your rights. Say you are invoking your right not to be questioned before consulting an attorney. Also, they can continue speaking to you after that, they just can’t ask questions about the crime, and they may try to get you to change your mind. Clam up except to repeat your request to speak to an attorney.

Nothing you do or don't do gets you out of the interrogation room.

What they don't tell you about not talking to cops is you gotta have the mental fortitude to stay silent in that interrogation room for as long as they keep you in there. Cops will make it sound like if you talk you'll get out of there but they're lying, you're gonna be in there for as long as they'll keep you whether you talk or not
