Office relations Our team lead is shit

I work on a software development team, a small one. And there is this team lead who is shit but not absolutely shit but still shit. Mainly why I despite working lately is because : 1- He doesn't know shit, I know team leads and top levels are not supposed to know each detail on the code side, but this guy does not even know who works on what ( and we are really a small team) 2- If he finds that you can solve something, he doesn't care who created the problem and how was it created and how should prevent it, the only thing he cares about is you should fix it now. 3- won't hold certain people accountable although they cause much much much shit, and we have to clean after them. 4- does not respect out of works hours. 5- kicked a very valuable developer ( if not the most valuable) over some critics he pointed out to the team lead about the current environment.

And many other reasons makes me think he is shit.

So, I'm planning to do a meeting with the a higher manager who is not technical but more close to the business side, and I know this guy before the team lead came so he takes my words very seriously about the team, and I would like to address the issues with the team to him. Is this wise thing to do? I don't feel like talking with the team lead himself will get anything fixed, and at the same time I don't like the concept of going behind someone's back.

What is the best act to be done here?

Job searching Can this resume get me into (casual) upscale dining?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I put casual in title to differentiate from fine dining, which is not what I am aiming for at the moment. I've been in banquet service for 7 years and would like to move onto working in an upscale restaurant setting. I'm a lil cynical but I figured the healthiest thing I ought to do is get some constructive criticism, just wanna know if this kind of experience would land me anywhere.

It's a little tiring hearing family gnaw at my ears about how I only belong in fast food chains bc I've never worked a 'full time' job, so I wonder if wanting to work in higher end restaurants with what ik now sounds like a pipe dream.

Ah. I should add, I've been interested and very recently interviewed in places in Manhattan.

Interviews Hello 17 and looking for a job

Hello. So I recently had an interview at mcalisters and didn't get the job. But they had asked me a question and I didnt know how to respond to it. They asked me what challenges or opportunities do you expect from this job? How do you answer this question? I've come to realize that jobs hesitate on hiring teens nowadays because they don't like to work and they quit within weeks. I've also applied to countless jobs and they never contacted me back i've tried calling them to ask about an update and never heard from them back. I've worked one job. Please give me some tips on how I can get a job.

Job searching Middle-aged Autistic mentally ill woman looking for a VERY specific kind of job

I need help brainstorming for a very specific kind of job which I believe does not exist but I have to try.

A little background information; I am an Autistic woman in my fifties who hasn't worked in 7 years due to autistic burnout, anxiety, depression, and possible ADHD that has been exacerbated by perimenopause. Basically, I can barely function at home let alone in a job. However, I need money.

In the past I have had all sorts of jobs in all different fields, all of it was minimum wage stuff that anybody could do (because I don't have any college education), but eventually I learned that all of it is bad for my mental health. So here is what I am looking for;

- Part time or at least choose your own hours/days

- Working generally by myself, although I can handle coworkers sometimes, I just can't handle much responsibility (so nothing where I am the boss, nothing where I am taking care of customers, etc.)

- A pleasant/sensory friendly environment (No bright lights, loud noises)

- Work that is NOT fast-paced (or at least not super fast all the time)

- NOT driving (I have a lot of issues with driving in the winter and in large high traffic cities), plus my car is 17 years old and I can't afford the repairs it needs, it's good enough to get me to a job though but I wouldn't want to drive it all day, it wouldn't last very long then

- NOT cleaning (I barely even clean my own home plus I am sensitive to smells and germs)

- Something that involves using my hands, more than using my brain

- NO phones

- Nothing involving math or numbers, medical or legal stuff (it's all way over my head)

- Preferrably something that involves any of the following subjects; music, crafting, paper, nature, weather, food, holistic wellness, spirituality, journaling, and camping.

I have had a few jobs where I liked the actual work I was doing but it was always some issue with people or the hours or the environment that caused me to quit. I did like doing salad prep but every time I find a job for salad prep, it involves serving customers or doubling as a line cook which is too much stress for me. I want something where I am working in the background at my own pace. I also had a job once working at a teenage shelter and I had a variety of tasks to do, unfortunately the responsibility caused me to have panic attacks, however I heavily enjoyed the data entry, food prep, and folding laundry. I also really enjoyed working with paper, I have had a few jobs where I have made filing products and other office paper type things, however factory work is bright, loud, and chaotic so I couldn't handle that for very long.

And for anybody wondering why I don't do remote work, I did start my own online business but I got burnt out on that too and had to stop. I cannot handle running a business by myself doing all of the admin work which never gets any easier and only causes me to shut down even more. I cannot handle sitting in front of a computer for very long because I get what I believe is called screen sickness. I really want something where I am out in the world and moving my body.

Does anybody know of any jobs that could possibly fit this narrow description?

Leaving a job Asking for old job back

Last Monday I asked my boss if I can get my old job back. He told me to give him time until the end of the week and and I will get an answer. Tomorrow is Sunday. The company doesn't work weekends. Should I follow up at all? If yes when and how?

Job searching Job fair today

My city has a job fair today. It was widely attended but I couldn't help but to notice people showing up in clothes that are not business casual. Saw several people in flip-flops, sandals, platform stilettos, very revealing clothes, see-through shirts etc. All for government jobs? Idk, but I was always told to dress for the job you want.

Secondly, I would guess that half of the city departments present were only hiring for one position, or not hiring at all. What's the point of getting people's hopes up when I clearly hear you tell the person in front of me that you're most likely not hiring for six more MONTHS?!?

Work/Life balance What's a job that you can actually achieve a good work-life balance?

Can you achieve a good workload balance only by working remotely nowadays....? What are your thoughts? Has anyone got a job where they can really "down tools" and snap straight into "life mode" after work. Maybe it's a mindset....?

Applications What is a good job / career to get into right now?

Everyone is talking about what jobs not to get into right now…I’m curious what job should you get into? I’m desperate. I’ve been working in the event / hospitality industry and it has been giving me debilitating anxiety. I want to go into something new that I can learn and thrive. Or scratch that - anything that will pay the bills and not kill my mental health lol.

Job searching Career change ideas from mechanic to remote internet based work wanted

TLDR: After a drastic life event and severe injury I am waiting to change life pace and travel the country. Looking for lob ideas that can be done from anywhere with internet. It would be optimal if I could use my 10+ years experience in mechanic/heavy diesel but not required.

To heavily summarize a very long story, I had a life shattering event and a catastrophic hand injury which rendered me unable to work. I've been off of work since mid March and in having all of this free time I have discovered that what I used to think I wanted doesn't matter that much to me anymore, atleast not at this point in my life. Material things hold almost no value.

In saying that, my lifestyle has transitioned from wanting to own a house and land To wanting to travel the country with a truck and camper when I turn 27 (currently 25) to every major National Park. I'm also not sure if I want to continue my career in heavy equipment/heavy diesel repair.

I'm coming to this group looking for suggestions or ideas on possibly a new career path. My entire life since I was 13 I have essentially been physicaly obedient to the Labor system selling my body & time for wages. I don't know what other career paths are out there all I know is that I would prefer if it can be done remotely from a camper anywhere in the United States as long as I have an internet signal. Another nice point would be if I could incorporate my 10 plus years experience in the mechanic/ Diesel equipment repair industry into this new job. Hard to turn wrenches while moving and having enough energy and free time to explore.

I am open to any and all suggestions as I am just beginning this journey in preparation for my departure in 2 years. I know this is quite a long-winded post, so thank you for your time reading it if you did.

Feel I should add that I have a 90% shot of regaining complete function of the injured hand. Heavily damaged the left index finger and hand 1 muscle graft and 1 skin graft operation. Removed about 25% of the tendon and alot of meat.

Networking Some interesting stats from LinkedIn Job Posts: You should check your network on Tuesdays for job posts

I've been on the hunt for a job for over 9 months and have been collecting daily data on informal LinkedIn job posts—these aren’t on job boards, but rather quick “Hey, my team’s hiring!” posts that managers share with their personal networks often before the job 'goes live'. Over the last two months, I analyzed thousands of these posts, and a few trends really stood out:

  • Tuesday Surges: I saw a noticeable spike in postings on Tuesdays. If you’re job hunting, make a habit of checking your feed early in the day. New posts get the most attention in their first 10 minutes, so the faster you can comment or message, the better.
  • Biggest Job Demand: Developer, Project Management, and Sales roles top the list almost every week without fail. Developer postings can jump as high as 200+ on a single day, and Project Management soared past 270 on peak days.
  • Weekly Averages:
    • Developers: ~800/wk
    • Project Management: ~1,000/wk
    • Sales: ~900/wk
    • Data & Analytics: ~600/wk(These are just a few top categories I tracked)
  • Grow Your Network: The biggest factor in seeing these posts is connection. Recruiters, HR leads, and senior managers often share openings early and widely. Its a little cringe but if you want eyes on these hidden roles, get in their circles.

I used this method and its landed me more relies and interviews than other tactics. If you want more data or a link to the website DM me.

Hope these insights help. Good luck on the hunt!

Onboarding Hired as a deckhand, and have 2 trips in the works, am i getting fired ?

So i landed a job as a deckhand for a transportation service to an island. I’m going in this week to fill out the paper work and i start my training too. On my interview they asked me if i had any trips coming up and i mentioned i would be gone for a little over a week at the end of april and early may , they seemed fine with it since i got hired. however, my partner is deployed in japan and we were talking about how he has time off and would like to fly me out to Tokyo at the end of june / early july for 2 weeks. I’ve never been to Tokyo and i definitely don’t want to turn down an opportunity to have my flight and accommodations payed. Should i email the hiring manager about this right now? Or wait to meet her in person and bring it up when i sign my paperwork. I am really excited about the job and i don’t want them to be upset with the second additional trip.

Also im graduating in May, and both trips are graduation presents. They know im in school and about to graduate so im not sure if this will make my situation any better.

Job searching In this market, your resume is your first impression, and it better hit.

I work in HR at a Fortune 500 company, and I see it every day: smart, qualified people getting ignored because their resume doesn’t even make it through the ATS software.

Tips: • Ditch the fluff. Be clear and direct. • Use real results. Numbers > duties. • Tailor for each job. YES, EVERY TIME!! • Keep formatting clean. ATS bots are picky.

If you’re unsure whether your resume is doing its job, feel free to DM me. I’m happy to take a look and provide honest feedback. I’ve been through the job search struggle myself, and I know how overwhelming it can feel, but trust me, when your resume is on point, you’ve got a real shot. In today’s market, standing out is everything, once your format is set, it’s the tailored content that truly sets you apart and makes you competitive.

Applications I want to quit my job, right after a promotion!

I work at Lowe’s and lately I’ve been overworked. I’m 19, and most of my friends who used to work here have already left. I’ve been thinking about quitting too. The company’s been making me do the work of others without paying me what that work is actually worth.

Now, they’re offering me a promotion of about 5 dollars. I’m considering taking it only so I can list the higher pay on future job applications. My question is: would that help me get a better job having a higher base pay, or could it actually hurt my chances?

Post-interview Need some insight on job offer

So recently I got a job offer at a food distribution company and the hiring position is order selector. Mind you this would be my first time applying for this position as I have no prior experience. The company wanted at least a year experience but they’re willing to train me. The demands they want is a 88 case per hour quota by my 2 month probation as that is the daily limit. The starting pay is 21.50 and over time rate is 48 an hour. This is a union house position so I want some advice whether I should take up on the offer. The recruiter gave me 2 days to think about my response before they find another candidate. Your advice is welcomed, thank you.

Career planning Career Transition Inquiry - 24M, India- Management to Analyst Role

Hi,

I am a 24-year-old professional from Mumbai, India with a Bachelor's degree in Management and two years of experience in a management role. I am currently considering a career transition to an analyst position.

To facilitate this transition, I am exploring the option of pursuing a one-year Post Graduate Diploma in analytics from an autonomous college. While my current company offers competitive compensation, I am experiencing significant internal political challenges due to which my health is being affected.

Given the current challenging job market, I would appreciate your insight on whether it would be a sound decision to resign from my current position and pursue this diploma. Just FYI, the college provides placement assistance, and has a great overall curriculum to upskill myself. but does not offer a formal placement program.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Resumes/CVs Thoughts on making a resume “ATS friendly”

I’ve been on the job hunt for a couple of months now, but unfortunately haven’t made it past the screening interview stage yet. While I know my international student visa status can be a challenge, I’m also starting to think my resume might need some work to get through ATS filters.

I’ve been trying out tools like Resume AI and Jobscan. While Resume AI gives me a high score, Jobscan (which actually compares my resume to the job description) shows a MUCH lower match. I’m wondering if anyone has any thoughts on tools like Jobscan, or any recommendations for how to better tailor resumes with the right keywords to improve my chances.

Career planning Interested in making landscapes. What jobs align with this?

I'm 18, in high-school and about to graduate. I don't want to spend money on college. I have been drawing landscapes for a long while and have a great understanding on how to make them look nice. Any jobs that will allow me to work off that talent? Where should I start?

Career planning Any advice on how to get a job as a cook in a restaurant w/o prior experience?

Hello! I got laid off last year and I’m thinking about getting a job as a cook at a nearby coffee shop and restaurant.

I’ve actually worked at an another branch of the store many years ago, but I was a dishwasher and bus boy.

A lot of of my experience since then has been in a corporate environment and I had a pretty impressive job title.

I’ve also cooked many dishes on my own over the past 15 years, but I know that was a home environment.

My question is, would it be enough to bring in my standard résumé to try to get a job there and mention my cooking experience/maybe show pictures there, or would it be a good idea to also try and make a document showcasing my dishes? I’m hoping the former would be good enough. Thanks

Thanks
