Is the rendering okay?
Work in progress. The colors and shadow doesn't seem right. Any feedbacks to improve.

Thank you for the insightful feedbacks:) Really appreciate the detailed breakdown and explaining with drawing & screenshots!
I couldn't get the right shade of red, didn't know its on the cooler side haha. I will try to add these adjustments to improve it!

You will train your eyes slowly to read colours eventually. I realised the easiest way to get around it for now, is to make use of Colour Balance and Saturation adjustment layers. Its hard to pick out colours correctly right from the start, but those sliders are a great tool to help get it right.
That and, I would bind the greyscale toggle. So you can keep spamming the key to check your contrast and values.

u/LemonMelonT Jan 25 '25
I see, will experiment more with Color Balance and Saturation. I had a tough time studying the colors haha
Oh great idea! I didn't thought about that. Will try it soon :)

I tried to do this for someone else- i drew two stick figures.
You're very talented

Wow I have to see this is one of most efficient replies I have seen for while when looking at multiple different subreddits. You described it very efficiently and clearly, and that image pushes it to absolute next level. Nice.

HOW THE HELL IS THIS ON LEARN TO DRAW?!?! THIS IS FLUFFIN AMAZING

I know this is basically just a way to compliment OP, so this isn't necessarily aimed at you, but I see this sentiment so often. IMO intermediate artists honestly need advice more so than beginners. Beginners have tons of resources and a broad variety of things to learn so most of the time the advice is literally just "go learn fundamentals", while intermediate artists need advice that focuses on their specific weak spots.
We're all learning! From someone doodling in margins to people who make a living through their art.

u/LemonMelonT Jan 25 '25
Appreciate the complement, but yes I still have much more to learn! So grateful to have this platform to post my questions and receive feedbacks to improve on my mistakes/weak spots :)

u/Bored_So_Entertain Jan 26 '25
To add to this, the more specific critique is helpful for beginners as well. Things like “work on fundamentals” I understand but most of the time it roughly translates to “practice more and build muscle memory”.
With a post like this, the current top comment about adjusting the lighting to make it cooler is something I would’ve never even thought about but I appreciate being able to learn about it

If you want to match the reference, i'd say darken the shadows. Theyre much lighter in your drawing.

u/LemonMelonT Jan 25 '25
Appreciate the feedback! I will try to adjust the shadows to improve the contrast.

Its been said before - darken the shadows, increase the highlights a bit and cool the red but there is a bit more nuance to my eye as well. Note the way the artist carves areound some of the highlights and shadows. In the vents you got a little play with the darks to make them have an internal form, highlight on the nose goves a sharp aspect, highlight on medial cheek shows a sharp triangular thing, the way he plays with slight highlighting and plane changes on the mandibular rim also shows a sharp contouring or edge between the relatively flat ribbon like margin vs the rounded cheek part. Its a constant interplay of organic and sharp. Additionally there are some highly saturated and textured strokes of cooler colors thrown in that add character to the render
That said, as for rendering the shape i think you did a great job mate
Cheers

Thank you for the insightful feedbacks! Appreciate the in-depth explanation and areas to improve on. I will study the reference again with these details in mind :)

Dont be afraid to reach a complete black point or white point! The only difference between your rendering and the original is the lack of contrast! It's perfect you just need to go deeper on the shadows and brighter on the highlights :)
Great job!

Can't offer any constructive feedback but immediately recognised the reference so good work!

It's looks great but I see what you are saying about the shading I would reduce/remove the glare of light on the back of the head under the hand the glare on the front glove and up are fine it that back but doesn't make sense and the transition of color will contrast better in my opinion but it's awesome and you have done great job far better than I

Thank you! Appreciate the feedback. I will try to adjust these details to improve it :)

It's gorgeous, but the face and mask don't seem to be facing the same angle, basses on the subject hairline I'd expect a more forward facing on the mask.

u/LemonMelonT Jan 27 '25
Thank you! Appreciate the feedback :) I will try to adjust the angle as I continue.

Wow!! Reminds me of an arcane animation
3
u/firenova9 Jan 25 '25
That's because it's a character from Riot (the creators) - I'm not sure OP actually drew this though- it's EXACTLY like the art animation for the new Elise skin...
2
u/LemonMelonT Jan 26 '25
Yes its Elise a character from Riot. 1st pic is my progress, 2nd pic is the reference, I hope to draw like this one day haha

u/firenova9 Jan 26 '25
Ohhh I thought you were trying to pass off the 2nd drawing as yours 😂😅😅
It looks great so far!! :)

Nothing to say about the rendering, but those spikes to the left of the chest piece look rather unpractical, i think they stab the user alot.
1
u/LemonMelonT Jan 25 '25
Hahaha but they look so cool!

u/Left-Night-1125 Jan 25 '25
They do and painfull.
Maybe put the points slightly more to the center though, so they would be still there but not stabbing in the upper arm all the time. So they remain on the chest. Or wrap the points around the breasts. Just some ideas to think about.
Or just keep them like that and have others mention it.

1st pic is my progress, 2nd pic is the reference 😄 I wish I could draw like this, but not yet hahaha.
Appreciate the feedback! Maybe I could try out your suggestions :)

It looks amazing! May I know which program / brushes did you use? Are you using one brush for everything and just change the size?
3
u/LemonMelonT Jan 26 '25
Thank you! I am using Procreate on iPad. Default Round Brush (100% opacity) and Medium Hard Brush. Changing the sizes to paint & smudge.

She looks like FKA Twigs. Don’t know much about drawing but it looks great!

u/LemonMelonT Jan 27 '25
Thank you! Never heard of her, so I went to google. I do see the resemblance 😄

The nose is a bit too rounded in your render while in the og artwork is more "squary" and be careful on the chin, depending on how you light it might look like a double chin
1
u/LemonMelonT Jan 26 '25
Thank you for the feedback! I will take note of the nose and chin. Try to improve on it as I continue.
2
u/WestMagazine1194 Jan 26 '25
Other than those things it's so good i wouldn't be able to do it
2
u/LemonMelonT Jan 27 '25
Thank you! Glad that you like it. Oh don't sell yourself short. Keep drawing, let's improve together 😄

u/Magnetheadx Jan 27 '25
I mean, I guess its “ok” Maybe you should start over. /S
