Discussion Weekly logo contest – propose a brief, and we'll start the contest with the most upvoted one. Let's also discuss the rules. Thanks to @LAASR for bringing this up!

Everyone and their mothers looking for free logos will request them.
I think this could be a good use of AI—just have the mod generate a brief with AI and that’s it, no requests from anyone.
Another option: improve or offer a different take on an existing logo. That would get much more engagement and could even help the participants.

I support the idea of creating concepts for an existing company!
I wouldn’t be afraid to ask everyone for a brief because only one will be chosen. Let’s see how it goes, and if it starts to become a mess, we will act accordingly.

Yeah creating concepts for existing company is better. And instead of rebranding big companies like Pepsi or Coke..isn't it better to help a small NGO or hyper local business (like a small street food shop ) who have great dreams but really don't have money to invest. Otherwise after the contest, even the great design would remain useless.

50% of the consideration should go towards the problem design, process and rationale. There is far too much of style over thinking in the sub which perpetuates the false notion that design is a cosmetic exercise and that designers are simply stylists.
The brief should be flexible enough to allow participants to rewrite the brief and adapt it for their own location allowing designers to address the significance of local knowledge and visual culture in their own corner of the globe.

Syntherans are a technologically advanced alien species that humankind will encounter soon. Let's imagine the logo they wear on their clothing, equipment, and starships—futuristic, technological, and alien-like. "Synth-" → Derived from synthesis, meaning the combination of different elements to form a whole.

I remember discussing bringing the contests back with a few of the mods, and we all agreed it was a good idea. But we ended up putting it aside—either because we got busy with our own work or thought the community might not be that interested. Now that there’s a clear and strong interest in having them on the sub, let’s just figure out the details and get started!

Would be nice to see some elaborate design briefs, logo work in progress, and final logo for fictional companies. Some ideas:
Interplanetary parcel delivery services. A company that can ship raw materials from planets and asteroids. Send tools, food, equipment from Earth to other planets, etc.
Company that manufactures realistic, artificial wood for use in furniture making.
Cellular operator that only forwards information from one tower to another to operate as a P2P relay, and all communications are end-to-end encrypted. Crowdfunded. Developed by hackers, for the masses.
Battery charge and swap station for self-driving cars. A car drives in and a machine swaps out the battery with a fully charged battery, so there is no waiting time. Your old battery will be charged and placed into the collection of batteries.

MealTicket is a loyalty rewards app that issues coupons to users who upload and log their fast food receipts.
Client is looking for a 2 color logo to be used as an app icon and accompanying word mark that can comfortably sit beside it.
No AI created content. Logo must be scalable and created in a vector based program.
EDIT TO ADD: This isn’t that big of a deal. Everyone wants to make this some sort of perfect opportunity when it really doesn’t have to be. I just came up some shit off the top of my head. I used to participate in these. It’s a fun outlet to choose to participate in if you have nothing better to do.

Create a brand name and logo for a global online campaign/movement aimed at preventing the AI sector from using human creative works in the training of AI models. A key objective is to advocate for changes in copyright law worldwide to protect creatives from exploitation.
The logo should serve as a call to action, a banner under which creatives can rally, and a badge that can be worn by anyone to show support. It should be flexible enough to accommodate localized variants and translations while remaining distinctive enough to be recognized as part of the global campaign.
As part of this task, you are required to investigate the current copyright legislation in your country, name the campaign, and develop two versions of the logo: a) An international version. b) A local variation of the international logo.

Another thing to consider: while everything will be subjective, I think merit should be recognized, or it will just become a popularity contest where participants tell their friends to vote or open fake accounts.
This is just an idea, of course, but back when I was a college professor for a Branding course, I had my students rebrand an existing brand from a pre-selected pool, considering all aspects. It wasn’t just a logo, it was a full rebrand strategy. I'm not suggesting a contest on that scale, since their projects took a full semester and were part of a university-level course with high expectations.
But I do think that if the logos are based on known brands (like Pepsi, Costco, etc.), entries could include a slide explaining the rationale, maybe referencing old logo versions, or imagining a fictional expansion, like Pepsi launching a car division or something equally wild. That kind of brief creates a real challenge and makes the contest genuinely fun and interesting.
Good work like that can become a staple in any creative portfolio and will definitely get traction.
I won't participate, but I’d be happy to moderate this type of “learning” contest.

Google already paid Reddit $60 million to train on Reddit. Do you mean image generation software?

Here are a few ideas for a rebranding contest:
I also have the idea of creating a post on r/entrepreneurs asking for requests so we can choose from there. And as u/Unhappy_Disaster960 said, we could support a startup with a good idea. What do you think about this?
