!!!*IMPORTANT*!!! Hi... So we'd like to hear all of your thoughts on this subreddit... :)
Read the first italicized part if nothing else please :D
-------------------
\*Ok, before I begin,* quick summary if you don't want to read all this, basically we (the moderators) would like to hear all of your feedback on this subreddit, so just comment any suggestions you have for this subreddit and how possibly to implement them under this post. Thanks!\\**
-------------------
Ok, now here's the long version:
- So, at the time of me making this post, this subreddit is just a couple hundred people away from 50k members. 50k. That's a big number! Now, as this sub becomes bigger, it is only gaining people more quickly; in the last 12 months, it has gained nearly 20x the members it did in the 12 months prior. However, with this increase in popularity, it seems fit that we should ask the community, aka you all, what you would like to see added, removed, or changed about this subreddit.
- As you are probably aware, this subreddit currently is filled with a lot of "dark meme" type content. On most subreddits, lots of this stuff wouldn't be allowed; however, since this subreddit is just a place to find places to post things, and therefore just an intermediate, I have personally been pretty slack on what is allowed here, and have mostly just marked them as NSFW if I felt it needed it.
- Despite this though, I feel that this might be getting a little out of hand? I don't really want this place to turn into just another generic r/repost or r/countablepixels type subreddit if possible, although it's really up to you guys I guess. After all, this is a "Reddit Meta" subreddit. To "reduce" this, I have made a few minor changes, such as introducing the "Solved" flair and making Automod more strict on post titles. However, clearly this has done about what I expected it would do, which is basically nothing. I have also added a few automod rules, but those have been active for quite some time now.
- Another problematic thing about this subreddit is the images in the comments. Although I don't really want to remove them like so many subs have done, it seems like they are being overused some; sometimes I will go onto a post, and the first page or two of comments I see are all images, most of which are definitely not useful for finding a place to post in. Unfortunately, automod is very limited, and I am not easily able to have it require subreddit links on comments with images, but I also don't want to make it so that subreddit links are required for all comments.
- To combat these things, there have been several things I have thought of doing, such as the following, and I will also go ahead and list the potential issues that might come with these:
- Banning all potentially meme-type posts for (a) certain day(s) of the week.
- Someone would have to manually disable and re-enable images every time or host a dedicated server that does this automatically
- Banning all images in comments that ______________
- Banning them on certain days has the same problem as the first
- Making a post flair that doesn't allow images in comments seems like it would make sorting bby flair too hard
- Requiring a subreddit link with the images isn't easily implementable while also allowing other comments that don't have images to not need a subreddit link (if they are just trying to give a different website or etc)
- I could make it so that posts without links or images need a certain string in them, but this would probably end up causing lots of people's comments to get removed that skipped over this rule on accident
- Banning all "NSFW" images
- I really just don't want to do this
- Making a subreddit bot
- Sounds like a pain
- Adding more rules and trusting the community to read and follow them
- Doing something else
- I haven't thought of it yet
So, with this all being said, if you all like this subreddit as it is and want it to stay this way, that's totally fine with me personally. I don't want to make a change that ends up being hugely unliked and ends up ruining this subreddit. However, if you are like me and do feel that this subreddit should change or add something, feel free to suggest something with a comment. I know i've definitely seen a couple posts that address this, so now here's a dedicated spot for this- I don't know if this post will be up for forever, but it will probably be up for a while. All feedback is appreciated! If it is something that might be hard to do, feel free to also address how you might go about implementing it. Anyways, thank you for reading all of this!
Thanks,
