I'm loving the rat rods!🔥

This genre of machines are so cool, and the creativity behind them are top notch. Love seeing this stuff! Great job to all!

That one with the big marine diesel (or a highway diesel? Old detroit?) is awesome

Awesome.

Looks like an old Detroit diesel indeed, pretty sure I've seen this exact model in a few boats from the '70s!

There better be some rats inside this vehicle or I will be VERY disappointed.

How can these be street legal? It just seems completely irrational to drive one of these death race/Madmax machines filled with blind spots and spikes…

They aren’t. These are hobby vehicles.

It doesn't take much to be street legal in a lot of US states. They usually only have to meet emissions regs have brakes, lights, and, turn signals.

And many states don't have inspections, so you can still get it registered and get a plate even without that stuff.

In my state getting a trailer(even homemade) registered requires only a verbal declaration of weight(commercial) or scale ticket(non-commercial). Obv a little bit different for an actual vehicle but I think it says a lot that I could slap some casters and a hitch on a single 2x4 and the BMV would have no problem with me registering that and getting a plate for it(would also be street legal in my state due to low weight and size negating any other requirements).

Yep! My state doesn't have inspections either. We don't have to register trailers too. It's smart to do though. Fuckers steal those things all the time out here. I had a brand new one stolen out my driveway while my neighbor was watching. She figured it was a friend of mine till she saw the bolt cutters. That sack of fuck tried to run her over when she tried to stop him.

People still drive them on public roads with no repercussions. Imagine being hit with that POS

These people pour their heart, souls, free time, and money into these vehicles. They aren't out there getting into wrecks. They are generally better drivers than most and basically only drive them to shows and meet ups.

Eh. Accidents happen no matter how good of a driver the owner is. All it takes is one idiot and unfortunately we have many of them

Imagine coming in to work ... only to have your whiney ass to sit next to all. day. long.

Fuck.

Sip your Starbucks latte quietly.

Omg such a burn! I’m so offended by a person that cannot even see the merit in reason!

You really destroyed me with your gEnIoUs…

This was during cruising the coast on the Mississippi Gulf Coast (largest classic car event in the US). These aren’t as crazy as some of what you see there. There is literally a giant shopping cart there from Texas that doesn’t get pulled over.

Im from Latvia, we have strict road laws here.

2

u/FzZyP 12d ago

haha sorry brother, i thought you were commenting on the style not the legitimate road safety of these death traps

2

u/Fleshburn1 12d ago

Everything that's not original count's here as death trap on roads, latvian laws - hate them, love them.

I love rat rods as well. I kinda think it's funny people hate on the rear squated trucks for low visibility, but love the which often have almost no front visibility. As long as people just cruise and pay attention both are fine.

1

u/TwoWheels1Clutch 16d ago

Nothing like a good rat rod.

-1

u/trik1guy 16d ago

some of these are cool, but the rust as patina is just lazy. and that battery just laying on top...

5

u/SmackinGoobers 15d ago

"The rusty aesthetic which is the whole point of the rusty aesthetic is lazy" well ok then

Rat rods are for people who can’t build a real car

Some people like brown chicks. Some don't.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

STFU

The difference is there’s nothing wrong with brown chicks
