That truck just did a move that would make any drift car jealous!

This guy trained on blast corps n64, no trouble at all

Holy shit! That was the first game I got with my N64! Man I loved playing that.

I know I’m not in the same league because I play N64 games on a ported gameboy lookin thing off amazon (it has a bazillion different old systems in it) but blast corps seems pretty fun. Played a few levels. Took me forever to figure out the drift truck lol.

I’ve looked at getting one of those things, but I’ve always been worried they’ve glitchy or need tweaking, which would kill the fun of it for me.

A few texture issues here and there, and blast corps was quite laggy at times, but overall the one I got isn’t bad. The only game I’ve seen with really noticeable graphics problems is a Lamborghini racing game which has a noticeable minimap issue, but other than that, the games I’ve tried so far haven’t been bad.

Playing for 20 years n still never figured out the drift truck properly, used to just the the corners of buildings out with a lil speed

The rental place by me only had one copy of blast corps and it wouldn’t work on my N64. I remember being sad it didn’t work and my mom being mad because the employee didn’t believe us that the game cartridge wouldn’t work and refused to give us a refund. :(

I totally forgot about that game and just got a flood of amazing memories of my brother and I playing that as kids! Made my day!

Why did they put a turning mechanism in the middle, what problem does that solve?

Excellent question! Articulated steering gives a tighter turning radius in challenging but low speed environments such as construction sites. In addition, an articulated steering design can often allow for a lower center of gravity, increasing stability.

The articulated haul trucks have tighter turning radius versus than the rigid-frame units. In addition, the rear tires and front tires track almost exactly with each other on an articulated unit, which can have some advantages. There are certainly disadvantages as well, and you will generally see them top out at about 45 tons capacity. The unit in this video is a 40 ton unit. Pulling maneuvers like this here is very hard on the articulation pivot bearings, the oscillating hitch mount, and the a-frame bearings. If it just slips and never grabs, they'll probably be fine, but if it grabs it pretty easily can break parts. And it is NOT fun having to deal with one broken in half, trust me.

I can see why low turn radius is important in mining and construction environments. Imagine having to go back and forth in a cave so you can make a turn.

Underground mining trucks are a whole different beast- very very low-slung. AD45 is one that comes to mind. Articulated, cab mounted very low comparatively.

Instead of having multiple smaller weak pivot points on the axle for the wheels to turn, they have made one large strong pivot point for the body to articulate.

It isn't quite that. If that were the case, you'd see the largest classes of haul trucks use this method, but the articulated trucks top out around 45 ton haul class, where the rigids can get up to 450 tons capacity. It's more for manueverability in tight job sites, and for 6-wheel-drive utility in challenging environments. Paired with extra wide tires, they have pretty decent floatation characteristics over soft soils as well, but can still be prone to sinking like any wheeled unit in deep mud, loam, etc.

Do you demote him or give him a raise?

u/SacThrowAway76 4d ago
Demote him. There is no amount of money that driver is making by saving a few second of time like that, that will cover the repairs on that truck.

Yeah that’s really good on the machine. If I saw one of my employees do that it would be their last time.

I've driven these vehicles, when the hydraulic articulation of turning occurs, basically right behind your seat, it's a unique feeling unlike anything else I've felt in a vehicle

Five minutes earlier he got reamed for now working quick enough. That's my bet.

A couple more of those and it will break in half.
