Advice What do I do?

Post image

It’s occurred to me this looks bland and boring. I guess I need curtains and a rug? Probably pillows and a throw? Dog off the couch? Any suggestions appreciated.

How come? Did your dog sneak out with her friends on a school night?

12

u/Altruistic_Eye4346 1d ago

She snuck out and almost ruined my date night looking for her 😔

that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be applying consistent pets

I feel like you could use a few safes to really spruce up the corners.

12

u/Altruistic_Eye4346 1d ago

A few safes and obey posters?

6

u/curvyalmond 1d ago

Build a custom woodworked box to hide one of the safes. Then a floor lamp to spruce up the other one

4

u/tylersnowis 1d ago

And then get another, bigger safe to put right next to the box that's hiding the smaller safe.

Then put that in a safe

And then buy a bunch of brown couches.

u/ebaer2 1d ago

But for real I love your bauhaus posters! Very minimalist chic

2

u/Altruistic_Eye4346 1d ago

Thank you! I love them

Center them though, vertically, in the space between the top of the couch and the cieling. You'll need math for this. Or eyeball it. But move them down a bit.

u/Texas_Mike_CowboyFan 23h ago

Maybe try a fourth picture, reduce the space between them. Should be centered vertically and horizontally with the couch.

The safe would be a perfect place for a floor lamp to sit on.

curtains, rug, throw pillows, and LAMPS. using of varying height with a warmer bulb instead of those harsh overhead lights will instantly make your place more comforting and cozy.

1

u/Exirel 22h ago

I second that: lamps are a must have here, the overhead harsh white lights make it worse than it is.

Two small things that will make a huge difference - change out those blinds for some fabric curtains (hang them higher than the windows and make sure they reach the floor!) and get yourself a shit tonne of plants lol

6

u/Altruistic_Eye4346 1d ago

Okay thanks! I’m heading out to go max out my credit card right now!

u/ffsienna 1d ago

I would keep the blinds, but add the curtains over them. Curtains alone don't give you as much privacy as you get with the blinds too. You can also control your sunlight better.

2

u/CanaryNo8462 1d ago

Noooo, don't do that!

1

u/_Bad_Spell_Checker_ 1d ago

The curtains need to be half way between the ceiling and top of window and need to hang 1' beyond the window on either side.

Probably safe to get a long pole and 3 sections. One on either end and one in the middle.

u/OneEyedOtis 1d ago

DO NOT GET FABRIC CURTAINS IF YOU'RE A MAN.

Lower the posters behind the couch. Get wooden end tables that don’t look plastic-y. Get some nice table and floor lamps.

2

u/Altruistic_Eye4346 1d ago

Yeah I agree I need to get some nice wood ones

Plants

2

u/Altruistic_Eye4346 1d ago

I have a few outside of this picture but yeah more would help

4

u/PhoneHome444 1d ago

Add a few more couches

3

u/alihowie 1d ago

Floor lamp. Pull couch away from wall a bit and farther from window. Curtain (high rods) vs blinds. Round wood coffee table to soften all the 90 degree angles. Add a bit of color with a few accent pillows. Add 1 or 2 plants. Bingo bango

3

u/TheLandBeforeNow 1d ago

Curtains, candles, a rug, pillows, add some extra lighting, cushions. Honestly they’re just the basic extras but it looks good already.

Edited for spelling

3

u/Audrey_Ropeburn 1d ago

Curtains, hung higher than the window and touching the floor. Throw pillows, throw blankets. An accent wall of color or wallpaper would be great, too.

3

u/One_Peanut_6639throw 1d ago

A Safe would be nice to ty the room together

2

u/ejs6c6 1d ago

For starters I would move the lounger to the other end of the couch

2

u/Chipfullyinserted 1d ago

Sectional looks smashed up against the wall, pull it out from the wall and yes, a few pillows that pull out the colors from your wall Art maybe a throw blanket in burnt orange. A tall black shelf unit on right of couch and lose that one small table. Add lights to the shelf.

2

u/CarGuy_MazdaRX-7_ 1d ago

Nothing, it’s perfect.

2

u/MartyPhelps 1d ago

Break up the space by rotating the couch so the back is to the dining table, then set the coffee table and two chair across from it. Make it two distinct rooms.

2

u/Croppin_steady 19h ago

Sizzle giggle bush and hop on warzone brother

2

u/OnionNo7923 18h ago

I'm also much more farmhouse, so if it were me, I'd get a big chunky white/wood coffee table with matching end tables. I think the 3 you have are too small for the space and the couch. The couch is fine but I would definitely design around it to brighten up the space and make it feel warmer.

u/Bumble072 1d ago

Well you certainly dont decorate.

1

u/STONKvsTITS 1d ago

Pillows, contrast rug, and some plants 🍀

1

u/OrcOfDoom 1d ago

Area rugs.

Drapes and curtains.

Lighting.

1

u/Hotspiceteahoneybee 1d ago

An area rug, some yellow pillows to match the wall art, a tall interesting lamp to draw the eye when there's so much space between the top of the couch and the ceiling and no other tall furniture.

u/EricaSharing 1d ago

🍎🍐🍊

1

u/Pugtugs 1d ago

It looks nice. All I would do is add a colorful rug, some throw pillows, and some drapes which maybe match the rug and pillow somewhat. Also, give that cute dog some treats from me.

u/Opulent-tortoise 1d ago

Center your paintings they’re distractingly close to the ceiling

1

u/No_Elk6758 1d ago

Get rid of the terrible mini Blinds. Add some books and plants and flowers and art

1

u/Flashy-Collection69 1d ago

Pet the dog:)

1

u/Goblinpiss23 1d ago

Get a bookshelf or 2, and some plants that can drape down, something like a pothos, that you can wrap around as they grow. Check out a used bookstore, and grab some of your favorites to fill out the shelves, use smaller potted plant ya as bookends. Include a framed photo or 2! You have a really strong start to a welcoming space!

1

u/moosemoose214 1d ago

More puppies of course!

1

u/Either-Judgment231 1d ago

Bigger coffee table, to match the bigness of the sofa.

1

u/ivialerrepatentatell 1d ago

Less couch? curtains? Pretty much anything is an improvement.

1

u/Rookraider1 1d ago

Add some personality and color

1

u/spicypirateboy 1d ago

Plants m8. Put a few plants in corners and one on the coffee table

1

u/alsohuman2 1d ago

Move the sectional away from walls - put it more middle of room so that you can walk behind it

1

u/Venus_Cat_Roars 1d ago

Pull your couch out from the windows and the other wall. You need a couple of end tables and lamps. Bring the pictures down a little and bring them a bit closer together. As you said curtains and some pillows and a throw would help to pull it all together.

1

u/rympii 1d ago

Grab a beer and just relax for a bit brother😎

1

u/ThompsonReyes 1d ago

Yes dog off the couch

1

u/yousoonice 1d ago

you need more couch

1

u/JohnDerek57 1d ago

Wood colored end tables and coffee table, a darkish wood, no black. Lower art, it’s too high. Could do curtains of some accent color but I’m personally not a fan. Plants, many plants.

1

u/ThatThingUKnow 1d ago

You should pull the couch like a foot off the wall.

1

u/Ill_Parsley1723 1d ago

Belly rub for dog

1

u/MyLastCup 1d ago

lots of lights, maybe some warm ambient lighting for the corners. Plants too.

1

u/mpark6288 1d ago

Pet that dog.

1

u/Public-Drag5524 1d ago

Maybe add some plants? That’s usually what I do to spice up a space.

u/dynamite-ares 1d ago

Pulling the couch away from the walls a little would make a big difference

1

u/dynamite-ares 1d ago

Oh and swap the table lamp for a floor lamp

1

u/False-Emergency7629 1d ago

Nah bro that’s how my place is can’t have it clutter with bs we don’t need in the house like this it’s always clean and clear for me this would be perfect especially with two dogs cleaning once the house from top to bottom every week cause my dogs so to much things would to much things 😂

1

u/ogwillis1120 1d ago

Lamp , plant, curtain, floor rug , bookshelves with books and photos.

1

u/ogwillis1120 1d ago

1

u/jbrux86 21h ago

Is your dog a Beabull? Beagle Bulldog mix.

1

u/Altruistic_Eye4346 19h ago

I rescued her from a shelter and the paperwork says staffordshire terrier so pitbull

1

u/Hefty-Dot5733 21h ago

Need a rug under couch

1

u/PulseFound 20h ago

I would paint the wall with the pictures on it for some depth and dimension.

1

u/mannisbaratheon97 19h ago

Get some low maintenance indoor plants. Infinite oxygen hacks plus mental health boost

1

u/InspectionFine105 19h ago

Dog is fine. More lighting and a rug would be nice. I'll quit there.

1

u/OnionNo7923 18h ago

Definitely a couple light colored pillows and a white/cream throw, some light flowy drapes (gusset), a thin table runner, and like a 5x7 rug under the coffee table, maybe another under the dining room table. Get some nice decorative candles and books for the tables.

1

u/JaceOrionVoss 1d ago

Sounds like you have an idea of where to start, but also no kicking the dog off the couch!

Blankets throw pillows and curtains will go a long way to help. I also suggest some soft light sources like some fun decorative lamps or string lights.
