Boys I need help!

Just moved into a new place and I need some tips and help for my bedroom. Layout is a tad awkward; bathroom across the bed and walk in closet beside the bedroom door, and since y'all have great taste and ideas figured I'd post on here. Curtains are being put up over the big massive fuck off window but any help about what I could add to the space or change would be much appreciated !

I would absolutely move the bed to the corner where the dresser with the plant is, and have the bedframe against the wall so you are facing the window, assuming it doesn't block the bathroom door. Having the bed where it is is a little awkward, since it is directly in the path of the doorway.

Also, get some standing lamps or just more lamps in general with warmer lighting. Overhead LED lights make rooms feel sterile. Definitely get a rug or 2, i would put one in the door way by the closet and one where your current bed location is now. Also need something to put on the wall. Rugs and wallart are heavy lifters with interior design in my opinion. Maybe put a desk where your bed is now.

Make your room a reflection of you. Also i would definitely get different bed sheets, they dont match anything in the room. I would watch the youtube video 'Interior design for the anonymous men of reddit' there is a lot of good advice in that video too.

Agree with moving the bed to where the dresser and plant are. It look so awkward blocking the door like that.

Agreed bed should move. I had thought perhaps under the window, but I like this idea much better if it works.

I hate the LEDS as well, I turned on the overhead just for the pictures. I have the lamps on the bedside tables with warm white bulbs on normally!

Your suggestion for the bed was actually the first place I tried but it's just a little too big for that space unfortunately :(

Do you have any suggestions for patterns or colours for rugs or bedsheets? I already planned on changing the bedding to a taupe/beige for pillowcases and sheets and someone made a suggestion for a green colour duvet.

EDIT: okay measuring again it might work there. The bed pokes out a little bit into the doorway but it wouldn’t be in the way really. But the wall where the headrest would go isn’t wide enough to put a nightstand beside the bed. Idk if it would throw things off?

I think the bed is fine where it is. This sub is infatuated with corner beds. He has the room for it to be where it is now.

Not a bad idea to throw a couple of pictures on the walls, but that comforter needs an update. I'd go with maybe a shade of green to compliment the headrest.

Comforter was a gift from my ex so I was already thinking of replacing lol. I was thinking a few pictures above the bed as well

Update? Ghastly ..it needs to be burned. Bed on opposite wall .. proper lamps with shades on nightstand with higher height and square shades…pick a solid or geometric spread…. Move dresser or get larger lowboy dresser opposite the bed with mirror.. anchor 5x7 rug under bed to warm up the space… a fake plant and a piece of art that reflects your personality are needed here. Recover that odd wrap around headboard thing with something more festive or make your own… you can make one for less than you can buy one.. 36 inch high by width of bed.. 60 inches for queen for example ( mount foam on plywood.. wrap like a present, staple with fabric and mount on wall and inch below the top of your mattress…and your done! Replace light fixture with ceiling fan/ light if you’re in a warm climate or larger scale fixture if you don’t need a fan!

i’d put the bed frame against that funky wall where the dresser is, that way you don’t see the bed when u walk in

u/rympii 1d ago

A rug! Trust 🙏

2

u/FatherGirth 1d ago

Yes for sure! Any thoughts on colour or pattern?

2

u/rympii 23h ago

Personally, I think something burgundy/dark red would like nice with that comforter

You’re rug and walls are bare; throw up some art and a rug

I don’t know how much you’d like to go all in but I love that comforter. It reminds me of the Pardner fuzz from Old Blood Noise Endeavors, a guitar effects manufcaturer. They make multiple colorways of the same design and the Pardner has a similar vintage western design which is why I’d encourage you to go bold and choose western themed objects of varying styles. An old vintage beat up chair, a neon light like this (https://www.etsy.com/listing/1502160206/desert-with-cactus-neon-light-desert?gpla=1&gao=1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_ps-a-home_and_living&utm_custom1=_k_Cj0KCQjwqcO_BhDaARIsACz62vM_WamqgvrLmBjj2wQMmh1R94tksQdV90RkRUyg2NXzzvzmUWj1IBYaAlptEALw_wcB_k_&utm_content=go_21506855513_167985819319_716809514320_pla-303628061699_m__1502160206_12768591&utm_custom2=21506855513&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADtcfRLGpyAAHY8N5Ie0-scT4C2TA&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqcO_BhDaARIsACz62vM_WamqgvrLmBjj2wQMmh1R94tksQdV90RkRUyg2NXzzvzmUWj1IBYaAlptEALw_wcB&variation0=3626546110&variation1=3666150356) except I’d ask the seller to make the sun/moon circle pink.

I’d get a cow skull, maybe a lamp with a leather or hide shade. The possibilities are abundant.

I knew the comforter wouldn’t be for everyone when I posted lol but I do like it. I love that sign as well- thank you!

This giant blank wall across from your bed needs something huge and spectacular hanging that takes up the large amount of space and adds some real character (and color) to the room. Large artwork or cloth hanging. Something bold and wonderful.

Wdym the cat looks more than comfortable on his bed.

Dope duvet cover and kitty

u/BoyLechita 23h ago

It's CUTE! the direction of the bed definitely needs to be moved. the back of the headboard should be up against that window, with maybe a night stand on the side that doesn't have the closet door. Look at all that potential on those bare white walls! Hang something up that shows of your personality. maybe a small floor rug too. other than that your golden. a living space only really becomes a living space as its being lived in. Congrats !!

1

u/FatherGirth 22h ago

Thank you for the suggestions !! Unfortunately that position for the bed I don’t think would work as the window is SO big- I don’t think the picture properly shows how big lol. The headboard would cover like half the window with how big it is floor to ceiling :/

2

u/graphite_hb 23h ago

First, give the kitty scatches and pets.

Okay, I have a few ideas. First, a question with a suggestion: Do you like the comforter? A lot of people here don't love it and say it doesn't fit, but you can easily make it work! If you like it, keep it. Western and Mid-Century modern (your dresser and side tables) go great together! If you don't like it, choose a neutral tone. That doesn't mean choosing brown, grey, black or navy. Burgundy, deep green, lighter blue, all are good. Choose something with texture to it as well, whether quilted or very puffy, make sure it isn't fuzzy. I'd also get a

Next, get a couple of throw pillows for the bed. 3 is the ideal. If you want to make the current comforter work, go with something relatively simple. If you are going with a new comforter, something in a Southwestern/Pendleton-blanket-esque design would look really good for two, with a solid color for the third (maybe matching your headboard).

Get a rug. Two, ideally. One large one that fills most of the room, and a small long narrow one for the hall. If you want to really stay western there are so many ways to go about this. From traditional native designs like the afore mentioned Pendleton style, or maybe even a more standard color, a deep brown or something else that looks more Mid-Century modern.

I see that you have lamps. They are really small, if you can afford to upgrade get larger lamps with proper lamp shades imo. I'd get a third lamp for the dresser. Make sure it is a different shape and style than the lamps on the side tables. Actually, a floor lamp to the right of the dresser, and about 2 feet taller than it would be ideal! To keep the side tables from getting cluttered (mine always do) I'd recommend getting a leather or different colored wooden tray. Often called EDC trays or something. They help you drop your keys, phone, and maybe a watch or something in the same spot every time, and they corral it in a way that looks good.

You mentioned you are getting curtains. Please, for the love of God get curtains that go all the way to the ceiling! This would be a good spot to match the color of your throw pillows, or the headboard. A deep green would look superb I think. Maybe a little tiny tiny bit lighter than the headboard just to bring more light into the room.

I'd get another plant. A floor plant to the right of the window would be awesome, something big ideally, but they can get expensive. A fiddle leaf fig would look so good there! To the left of the window I'd put a smaller narrower floor plant. Something like a snake plant, or maybe a bird of paradise plant in a tall narrow pot.

We really want to create layers in the room. The plants slightly in front of the curtains will help with that, and another good way is to get a bed runner. With burgundy sheets a different shade of green, a gold, a deep yellow, or even dark cream would all work well I think.

Lastly get some wall art. If you want to go more western again, western paintings are superb. Paintings in general are expensive, especially getting them framed! And if you get a painting GET IT FRAMED!! Or on a canvas. That works too. We have 3 empty walls. Each one needs at least one piece of wall art. A painting on the smallest wall is an easy way to keep your price of a painting down, while having the wall be decorated, and the painting will bring a classy look. Framed or canvas or plate photography can fill another wall, maybe the bathroom-door wall. Multiple pictures can be used in a variety of styles and shapes. You could also do posters, but again, frame them. If you want to add some different textures, maybe get a tapestry. There are lots of options. Put floating shelves that match the wood of your dresser or nightstands on one wall and put sculptures, or other physical art on it. Maybe books that you like, with bookends that match the theme of your room.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas. I'd strongly recommend going to Pinterest, and looking up styles you like, and searching things like that. Based on the bedspread and dresser I assume you like Western and Mid-Century modern, so type "Mid-Century modern western bedroom" and see what comes up. Pick elements you like off of a few posts, and try to figure out why you like it. The most important thing is: buy everything mindfully. Only buy things you really like. You are going to spend a lot of time in this room, you don't want to sit and look at things you hate. Have fun with it too!

I hope to see an update here from you! If you want I can link 2 or three good bedroom interior design videos that really helped me learn what I like in a bedroom, even though I haven't built mine out that way yet!

2

u/FatherGirth 22h ago

Thank you so much for all your suggestions and advice I really, really appreciate how thorough they are !!

Yes there have been a lot of opinions on the comforter which I expected LOL but I do like it so I will most likely keep it and as you said I'm very influenced by MCM and I love Western accents thrown in as well.

Funnily enough the curtains are actually exactly what you said! A dark green similar to the headboard/bed frame and LONG ones too

I saw your comment on my update and I agree with you, I prefer it where it is in the original post. I know it's awkward in front of the door but it lets me have my night stands that way and space on both sides of the bed.

And yes those videos would be much appreciated thank you! I can definitely post an update once I have everything set how I like it!

Here are three! The bedrooms in the videos are not your general style, but the principles all still apply.

Edit: glad to hear about the curtains. Those will help. If they drag on the floor a bunch and pool up on the ground, don't be afraid to get them hemmed up. Shouldn't cost but a couple bucks at a tailor.

Clean, minimal, looks fine to me

1

u/bjwanlund 1d ago

Nicely minimal, could use a rug and maybe some artwork on the wall to break up the monotony.

Make sure to watch the angle of the vent for the AC unit.

1

u/jasonbournestoe 23h ago

Good base. Could be helped with:

-rug -hanging plant next to window -art on wall

1

u/FatherGirth 23h ago

OKAY. Based on feedback here is the bed in a diff spot https://imgur.com/a/KsfmmLE

Thoughts?

1

u/Gut_Reactions 22h ago

Better, IMO.

1

u/ClassyCowpoke 22h ago

Personally, I like it better in the original spot.

u/lmrtinez 23h ago

Bed needs to move, due to bathroom door. I don’t know where you would move it to though

1

u/NadoSWO 23h ago

Get an area rug and get rid of that awful comforter.

1

u/Ivvy1962 22h ago

All the suggestions I saw here sound great: move bed, rug, art work, plants, better lighting. That comforter looks like something our boys had when they were 8 or 9, it looks like the sort of item they had and LOVED as children and that always seems aggressively unappealing to them now that they are adults. Maybe get another cat … 🐈 makes the room look better!

1

u/ButImChuckBass 21h ago

You do. You need some personality aside from that comforter. I suggest some art, like Chronos eating his children.

1

u/FatherGirth 19h ago

I was thinking a full wall mural of the last supper but that’s a good idea too

1

u/ButImChuckBass 19h ago

Don’t do the last supper unless you want to be a priest. wtf?

1

u/FatherGirth 18h ago

I’m already a priest

1

u/ButImChuckBass 18h ago

Makes sense then why your room looks like that.

1

u/sullyqns 21h ago

I need that blanket

2

u/FatherGirth 19h ago

I posted a link to it in reply to another comment!

1

u/Booty_Shakin 20h ago

I HATE being able to see directly out my door when laying in bed. That bed needs to be moved ASAP

1

u/FatherGirth 19h ago

I posted another comment where I moved the bed to where many others were suggesting but imo I don’t think it works there as I couldn’t have even one night stand beside the bed

2

u/Booty_Shakin 19h ago

You can have a one night stand in the bed though 👍🏻

1

u/Booty_Shakin 19h ago

Yeah that's kind of rough for a setup, I saw the picture, I would want something next to the bed too.
