Recipe question It’s that time of year again!

Post image

Time for the annual dandelion mead (metheglin?) batch.

I usually use the petals along with lemon and sugars from 3/4 honey to 1/4 agave nectar/syrup. This is the first bag of many. Hopefully will get enough for 3 litres of petals per gallon.

Anyone got any recipes they’d like to share?

Wish my yard actually had some dandelions so I could make some! Made dandelion wine a few years ago with petals I picked in a state park and what little I got to taste before my cat knocked the carboy over was delicious!

I've made dandelion mead a few times. Definitely reccomend removing the greens from the yellow petals! Also gives you a chance to make sure that most of the bugs that live in dandelion flowers leave instead of ending up in your brew!

Aye, removed all green parts and the plethora of insects.

This bag was 400g of flowers, ended up with 120g of petals which is 1.2l in volume.

Will be freezing these and getting another 4/5 bags for a few gallons

I’ve got 3 gallons going right now. Granted it’s from dandelion I harvested last year. They just popped here where I’m at for the season.

Nice. Sunshine in a glass. Aging it is gonna test my patience.

With my first batch it was hard to not drink it right away. It was good from the start of aging. Just gets better with time. Now I have to see what I have left from that batch.

Tried last year, got some mould. That was my first attempt at wine. This year I'm more confident about the process, but I'm less confident about pesticide use in my area as I've had some time to really consider it
