By fundamentally miscalculating how groups of people act when someone tries to bully the entire class at the same time (while imploring people to simultaneously trust them with their future), resulting in a collective rebuke that will leave us irrevocably worse off for an as of yet, indeterminate amount of time.

Either Trump backs off of tariffs (unlikely because he’s surrounded himself with yes-men), Republican House joins the Senate in stopping Trump (unlikely because 80% of them are true believers and the other 20% are terrified of Elon + Trump), or we will see the world rally around Canada or China in a trade war that will leave the entire world in shambles.

Armchair expert time, but the effects are going to be long term whether he 180s or not. The stock market will probably rally because it's just an indicator of condensed vibes moreso than ever, but any investment in US industries is fucked for at least the rest of these next 4 years because Trump has demonstrated how fiscally unstable he is, at which point the tariffs will be killed if he hasn't done it himself by that point. He's just cut off everyone's nose to spite his own face.

Yes, but there’s a difference between cutting off your nose and having the sense to stop and take it to the hospital vs having the entire class repeatedly curb stomp you to teach you a lesson.

True, but that's 100% fucked vs 75% fucked. Of course 75% fucked is preferable, but is still fucked nonetheless.

Definitely stretching the analogy beyond it's intent here, but no matter how many hospital visits and stitches, everyone will know he's the guy that might cut your nose off unexpectedly, and avoid him.

Yes, the more that our country can/if start the process of moving away from Trump, the better.

Probably cope, but He’s gone all-in on all of these maneuvers, which is a position that looks like strength, but is also EXTREMELY fragile.

Yeah, I'd like to think this is where people finally wake up and smell the coffee, but I've thought that every other month for the past 10 years at this point, so I won't hold my breath.

He will back off because - to him - these tariffs are just extreme market manipulation.

When all the right rich people have filled their bags back up at discount prices, that's when he'll back off.

I love this guy. I mean, I'm not a fan of his chosen profession, but he explains things well and clearly. He's also a professor. And his dry wit is top notch.

When Patrick Boyle speaks, everyone should listen.

I really like the content this guy makes, but his style of speaking is absolutely infuriating. Why do so many YouTubers have this weird “upspeak”, rising intonation at the end of every single sentence? It’s like every statement has the upward inflection of a question. It’s so maddening. It makes me want to rip my ears off. Surely I can’t be the only one who hears this or feels this way.
