American friend said German language is n*zi language

I’m 23M and I have a 23m friend in the army. We’ve been friends for about a decade now and we took German language together in high school as the language requirement. One day I was texting him about a meme and I texted something in German to him. He replied saying don’t talk to me in n*zi.

My mind was blown. Like you really think Germany is n*zi even tho that was 80 years ago? I don’t know what to say. This guy is red pill trump supporter and has conservative views. Not saying it’s a factor but there if you want to know. Allot of people speak German and I teach it so to have heard that was absolutely wild.

Say nothing. Absolutely nothing. Continue living your life. That's all it takes to avoid arguments and fights.

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Yessir or maam. I don’t see him very often but I never bring it up, altho I wonder what would happen if I did. We hang out and it’s all good between us but that threw me off

Didn’t your friend hear American is the new Nazi language. I’m good tho I spell colour with a u

4

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Exactly. Not sure he realizes that. 😂 most of us spell colour with a u. I’m sure if I said something in context to colour (u included) they’d say something

4

u/CantankerousTwat 4d ago

But used the wrong "hear/here".

6

u/CappinCanuck 4d ago

Ouch, yeah that’s not a good look. I appreciate the call-out.

2

u/dymos 3d ago

Stupid homonyms, couldn't even hear the difference here.

That’s good advice so I’m surprised it’s here at the top of the comments

Exactly this, everything and everyone seems to be a “nazi” these days lol

19

u/JuJu-Petti 4d ago

The German language has been spoken since 500 bc. I suspect this person is just trying to get a reaction from you for the purpose of starting an argument.

5

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Well it’s been spoken for a long long time even tho it’s changed and evolved to its current state but still crazy to hear someone say that after having learned the language

1

u/Abject-Direction-195 4d ago

500 bc wtf. You really need to read more

5

u/Qsuki 4d ago

Older german yes, but not german german so not really false

1

u/JuJu-Petti 4d ago

🤪 google it. Ehhh thumb lazy.

" " " The German language has roots tracing back to the Proto-Germanic language spoken around 500 BC, with the earliest written Germanic language, Old High German, emerging around the 6th century CE. " " "

BCE - before common era and CE - common era

BC - before christ and AD - after death or anno domini

Not a big deal. I just found it funny that you mixed and matched the neutral and the religious, haha!

Edit: reddit doesn't like new lines of text smh

1

u/SnooGoats1303 3d ago

BCE - Before Christ's Empire CE - Christ's Empire

Yes, Proto-Germanic, which is the precursor of all Germanic languages including, for example, the North Germanic languages Norweigan and Faroese, the East Germanic languages (all extinct) such as Gothic and Vandalic, and West Germanic languages such as Dutch, Afrikaans, Yiddish, German and English.

-1

That's 1200 years after 600 bc

Don’t bully me I’m a mobile user 😔

3

u/ZuruaEclipse 3d ago

I’d say you were confidently incorrect about the subreddit r/confidentlyincorrect and its name but I’m not sure if you’re that confident about that since you don’t wanna be bullied lol

-1

u/Tamazghan 3d ago edited 3d ago

Tomato tomato… 😒

1

u/ZuruaEclipse 3d ago

Ok, time to ‘bully’ you (all in good fun, of course)

Just because you’re a mobile user doesn’t mean you have an excuse to just incorrectly link a subreddit, name of the sub correct or not. I mean, I’m a mobile user; in the past I just uncapitalised the start of the sentence if it’s a subreddit link or user tag because it’s that simple, but now I do just capitalise every letter on my own now like I would on PC so my typing habits aren’t too different just because of a change in device

u/IsThisASnakeInMyBoot 4d ago

Some people are just plain stupid. Can't be helped

1

u/Hungry_Wolverine1311 11h ago

This is very true but growing up anything I heard on tv or game that was German language was from a nazi so tv played a good role. It’s sort of like people hear aribic and assume the person is a terrorist same same

1

u/IsThisASnakeInMyBoot 1h ago

Which are both racist assumptions, although it's learned racism and that's something that goes away once you see examples that disprove it - at least for most people

10

u/Neruzelie 4d ago

R/shitamericansay ?

6

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Definitely. I didn’t know that was a sub lol

4

u/Soggy-Box3947 4d ago

Fancy an American saying something like that!

3

u/Scadre02 3d ago

I was called a nazi in primary school for being half german (australia, mid 2000's)

2

u/Original-Box-3971 2d ago

Sorry that happened to you, kids can be real arseholes

2

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Not surprising

5

u/Y0urC0nfusi0nMaster 4d ago

Yeah so that’s not a friend anymore buddy- that’s so plainly fucked up

3

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Yea I don’t tink we’ll agree on many things if politics come into talk

I don’t see him often but him and a few of my other friends are similar with their right wing views. I’m not far left and I do have some conservative views because of my background but that’s insane to say

3

u/dreamje 4d ago

Hold on hes a trump supporter but is anti nazi? Does he realise how much of trumps bullshit overlaps with nazis?

2

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Yea a lot of them are like that

3

u/dreamje 4d ago

They know nazis are bad but not why. We fought them in WW2 but they don't seem to know anything other then nazis are bad and the holocaust was bad.

For those of us who understand why the nazis were bad we can see a lot of what trump does as being uncomfortably close to what the nazis did

2

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Yes that thought process doesn’t go beyond they were bad. What trumps doing is extremely close to what the Nazis did yet I’ll bet a lot of trump supporters don’t recognize that or deny it

3

u/boy-darwin 4d ago

To retain your friendship, just let it go and don't bring it up again. To end your friendship, ask him what's the problem is in German. You have control which way it goes.

2

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Yea haha I can literally keep talking in controlling the convo if I want to in German because I’m at a point that I’m convo fluent and more

2

u/theeatingsquirrel 4d ago

and he still supports elon after the salute?

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

I have no idea, presumably yes but I never asked him about anything since trumps come into office

0

u/Tamazghan 4d ago

What kind of assumption is this? You start with a presupposition that he supported Elon in the first place which cannot be determined.

3

u/theeatingsquirrel 4d ago

“This guy is red pill trump supporter and has conservative views.”

2

u/Tamazghan 4d ago

I am not conservative nor a trump supporter but many conservatives also don’t like Elon musk

2

u/El_dorado_au 4d ago

Eh, maybe it was a joke? (Previously learnt Japanese, currently learning Spanish, once did a bit of Mongolian, all of which could have nasty things said about them)

2

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

I don’t think it was a joke, I texted German in a topic completely different from what we were talking about and he responded like that

1

u/sam246821 4d ago

there’s no way it’s not a joke.

1

u/dymos 3d ago

See, the thing is, jokes are funny.

1

u/DistributionOwn5993 1d ago

Funny is subjective, to me that's hilarious.

1

u/dymos 1d ago

it depends entirely on the context in which it was said. When someone tells you "stop talking in n*zi" because they're an ass, I'm willing to bet it's not meant as a joke and wasn't intended to be funny.

Of course, if you think that "joke" is funny, I'm probably not about to convince you otherwise because we have some very different viewpoints.

1

u/DistributionOwn5993 1d ago

Not being funny there's always going to be a friendly rivalry and bashing between most eu countries and Germany after all that happened, my great grandsire and grandsire fought them in 2 world wars, I lost family in the blitz and so on, it was almost 100 years ago now, it's not serious, take the plank our your ass and enjoy life.

1

u/dymos 1d ago

But how will I enjoy life if I can't tell people on the internet they're wrong?

1

u/DistributionOwn5993 1d ago

Go find people in real life to tell them they are wrong, sure is a lot of them out there lol.

1

u/dymos 1d ago

We can both agree on that lol

2

u/foshi22le 4d ago

The German language is simply a language, the language is not the ideology. That belief is nonsensical. Just ignore him over that one.

2

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Yep I chose to ignore and forget about it

2

u/baldrick841 2d ago

Yeah seems legit. Mentions Nazi red pill trump and conservative in one sentence while describing his friend acting like a dick. This is bait.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 2d ago

I’m not baiting It is all true

1

u/AccomplishedBlood581 2d ago

Exactly what I just said lmao. Hes literally only posted this to try and get out a bash at trump and all his trumpies without saying it directly. Any normal person would’ve just played it off as a joke or rage bait, but this dude goes straight to reddit. Autism? Or just average Redditor?

2

u/FigFew2001 2d ago

You texted him a meme (a joke) and he replied with a joke?

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 2d ago

No. I texted him a meme, separately texted him in German about a topic entirely unrelated and that’s what he said

2

u/KhanTimberwulf 2d ago

You probably took it too seriously

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 2d ago

Over text it’s hard to understand tone but still was kinda shocking hearing it from him. Especially because of us both learning German in high school and also him playing ‘Kaiser Wilhelm’ in our German class

2

u/KhanTimberwulf 2d ago

That's probably why he said it bro, cos lmao edgy comment funny.

Either that or he watched inglorious bastards recently and was referencing a comment.

You should know him better than us so I'm not sure what value you expect to find here.

0

u/HashyBrownie123e 2d ago

That could’ve been a reason. It was entirely off topic of anything we were texting about so I was confused too even tho I know him better than yall lol. Either trying to be edgy funny or serious but idk

2

u/Available_Fun2531 2d ago

Sounds like he is joking, HEIL MY FUHRER

0

u/HashyBrownie123e 2d ago

Haha I see your joke. But this was unlike anything he’d ever done before, he never joked about this so it was surprising at the very least

1

u/Available_Fun2531 2d ago

Well if you sent him a meme, and he replied 'dont talk to me in Nazi lol', is a bit different to 'dont talk to me in nazi.' its all about context and tone (although tone is hard to read and convey in text). i think its all a misunderstanding. if not, who cares?

i think those who hate nazis / germans are just as bad as people who say 'it was 80 years ago, lets forget it'. my family is austrian and you cant even bring up hitler or nazis, they just pretend it all didnt happen. at some point, everything gets to a point where noone cares and it can be a talking point / joking point.

every country has their history, giving power to that history is what makes this generation soft and kind of retarded. australians were convicts, americans were slavetraders / slaves, and the french were surrender-monkeys - people make jokes about all these, but you bring up hitler...its over?

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 1d ago

Tone was impossible to judge from the text. ATP it’s in the past and I’m gonna forget it. At the best it’s a joke, at worst it could’ve been a misunderstanding like u said.

There is a difference between hating Nazis/neonazis and Germans. At least now they’re educated on what happened and the country is very anti-Nazi. Most of it is a joke, but for me it struck a chord because I’m German speaking and teach it so to hear its Nazi language is not cool.

I genuinely hope u aren’t calling us soft and retarded. I mean I agree a lot of our gen is soft (I’m very pro- dark and offensive humor) but there’s a lack of education in that text. I make jokes about Hitler and the other stuff like French and Soviet all the time. Further I didn’t even mention Hitler in my post….irrelevant point from u

1

u/Archon-Toten 4d ago

It is the language they spoke. So he's technically correct. But they've really cracked down on it since then.

Remember the Clan speak English so...

5

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Technically correct however those baddies are all but eradicated.

Remember trump speaks English, musk speaks English, the clan speaks it, ignorant Americans speak it, etc

1

u/blakeavon 4d ago

Cut them loose. If that is how their pigeon brain works, there is no reaching them. As I kid I grew up and thought Indiana Jones saying ‘I don’t speak n-‘ was one of funniest things ever, and it is still funny, thanks to context. But a functional adult saying that about one of the top ten languages in the modern world, they thoroughly need to get a life or an education.

The worse part is how oblivious they are, the thing they are supporting now, could, if not kept in check, could become very something. similar.

2

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Yea Indianan jones and other stuff is funny with context but when I literally texted this guy something completely off topic in German, he said that. I’m not sure he realizes America and its military are hated by the world, especially the Middle East

1

u/Jizzful-Youth-1347 4d ago edited 4d ago

Super ironic, honestly just laugh at them when they're being thick - there's no point even trying to explain things to them

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Yep I do that a lot when I’m with this group of friends both of us are in. I speak 4 languages, none of them speak besides English so I tend to start saying nonsense in German or Russian or my native language when I want to but nobody gets a kick out of it tho. They’ll tell me that since I’m in America I should speak English but I tell them I speak it cause it’s the only language they know

1

u/dymos 3d ago

Gotta speak 'merican, wouldn't want to accidentally educate them.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

Literally. Don’t wan to present any facts, just anything that’ll confirm their bias

1

u/New-Load-651 4d ago

Maybe you should bring it up, personally I don't see you as a mate, more a snake since you had to mention the maga thing and allow people to bag him out online behind his back. Tell him how you feel and stand by it

2

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

I wouldn’t see you as a mate either i mean we’re strangers. Nobody knows his identity either but it was just something I figured might play a role altho I have no clue. I’ll see next time I see him

1

u/New-Load-651 4d ago

😂 I see what you did, that gave me a good laugh

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Hehehe im a bit cheeky

1

u/freshair_junkie 4d ago

Some people are just complete dickheads.

As a British kid born in the 60s I grew up with all the stories of the war and all the hollywood movies of the time portrayed Germans as the defeated enemy. As kids we role played games along that theme too. I guess it's hard to live in this environment and not be influenced by stereotypes. No-one in our education system did anything to correct this subliminal indoctrination.

As a young man however I travelled Europe and worked in many countries including Germany. I always found German people to my liking - very much so in fact - and it has always bewildered me how those terrible times could have ever happened. It makes no sense. I have never thought of Germans being Nazis nor anything bad.

So it's a pity your friend chose to behave like this. Really silly of them. Best to just get on with your life and choose to be with different people.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Some people certainly are dickheads, ignorant too. Growing up I think a lot of boys played that kinda game, maybe not exactly Nazis vs Brit’s but good vs bad. You’re exactly right with that.

I’ve been to Germany and Austria. Most people were chill or friendly when I asked them for directions or help. It never occurred to me that these guys could have been Nazis or bad people in general.

My friends tend to have some silly views of you catch my drift. Being the only non white guy in a friend group who all grew up in a small rural red town….ive drifted apart from them due to circumstances and life but i try and see them every so often if I can, but they will never get the view and perspectives I’ve gained thru being a poc and traveling the world unfortunately. I’m gonna ignore and move on

1

u/myLongjohnsonsilver 4d ago

Lmao if a friend of mine said something that stupid and it wasn't a joke I'd tell him he's a dickhead and then cut them off.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Yep I probably should’ve done that but at that moment I was too shocked to think clearly. I don’t even know what I said after but I didn’t text him for a while after

1

u/myLongjohnsonsilver 3d ago

It is a lot harder to do certain things than it is to think about doing them in hindsight.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

Thanks for the wisdom, it’s definitely true

1

u/Important-Lawyer-350 4d ago

Technically the truth, not so much so if he's talking present day Nazism.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

He was talking pretty much referring to German as a whole, nothing specific

1

u/okraspberryok 4d ago

America is literally a neo nazi wet dream country right now.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Land of democracy and land of the free haha Yes literally tho it’s a neo nazi haven

1

u/BobbyThrowaway6969 4d ago

Sorry your friend turned into a moron

2

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Thanks for the condolences, most of my friends in that group are on that side of thinking unfortunately

1

u/SnooBooks007 4d ago

This guy is red pill trump supporter

So what's his problem with the Nazis?

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

No idea. Shouldn’t have had a problem but must’ve gotten brainwashed by the army

1

u/Evil_Sharkey 4d ago

Nazism is illegal in Germany! That guy is a tool

1

u/Disastrous_Button440 4d ago

Bruh Germans are most antifascist than America at Th is point even with those AFD pricks to nerf them

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 4d ago

Yes, Germans are even more averse to nationalism and AFD is less extreme than Americas right wing political parties

1

u/Disastrous_Button440 4d ago

Yep, if Elon did a Nazi salute without his security guards nearby in Berlin, I would think he would get told to stop/assaulted/arrested

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

Yes I would like to see trump, Elon and the other republicans try and pull their stunts in Germany and see what happens

1

u/PCbuilderFR 3d ago

USA are more nazi than germany rn

2

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

This happened a few years ago I wanna say, but still Germany even back then to now was/is nowhere near the level America is

1

u/Ok-Replacement-2738 3d ago

I mean tone is lost, but I would absolutely say this to a german myself.

I would say "sorry I don't speak surrender" to a frenchmen and so on.

light ribbing (if so living up to the stereotype), again if he's actually upset then yeah yikes.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

U mean like a random German u just met? Thats borderline offensive… Thru text tone is lost but I couldn’t tell if he was joking or not. I wanna say now he was but ya never know.

I actually have a French friend and have said that to him and he finds it funny but to a random stranger no way

1

u/Ok-Replacement-2738 3d ago

No like a friend, generally I'm polite to strangers (*internet).

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

Ahh gotchu. I misunderstood sorry. Yes I would say it to a friend as well if we’re closer

1

u/Ok-Replacement-2738 3d ago

Then I would presume that yeah it was a ribbing and he wasn't upset.

Americans are dumb, but even they have their limits.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

Hopefully he was joking. These guys aren’t stupid but they aren’t the best when it comes to different cultures and languages

1

u/MidorriMeltdown 3d ago

Nope. German language is where English comes from. English is a Germanic language. The older the form of English, the more Germanic it is.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

Correct. I’ll bet u $ that even if I said that he’d try to refute it or say something so English is okay but German isn’t

1

u/AestheticXavier 3d ago

sounds like a bad edgy joke tbh

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

He’s somewhat edgy so yea it could’ve been a joke but it was terrible if so

1

u/summrsgd 3d ago

he forgot japanese and italian 💔

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

1

u/Opposite_Gas6158 3d ago

American's love Nazi's. He is trying to get into your good graces. Don't fall for it.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

Mmm yea don’t worry I am wary of him

1

u/Faibl 3d ago

Ugh one of my behavioural-needs clients found out that one relative, many generations ago, was German... and for a long time believed (said) that being a Nazi was 'in his genes'.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

Aghh that sucks, ignorance at its finest

1

u/Raptor-2022 3d ago

Look up Justaskjefferson on TikTok. I’ve been watching his content to improve my conversion and reactions to people like this.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

Will do. Sounds interesting thanks!

1

u/bayrho 3d ago

Surprised he didn’t ask for you speaking tips and give you a heil for doing it

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

😂 lolllll this made me laugh

1

u/TechnologyLow6349 3d ago

That is the current state of the democRAT voters in the US. Absolute morons.

1

u/ParkingAnxious2811 3d ago

English is a Germanic language. Also, it's the magats that are waving nazi flags and performing nazi salute.

Your friend has a wild take that's pure projection.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 3d ago

Correct. I couldn’t have said it better myself

1

u/Unknownsake 3d ago

Sounds like a Redditor

1

u/VitaminSea420 3d ago

You're both correct.

1

u/Bustedcrabface 2d ago

Tell them to fuck off. Politely.

1

u/JazzlikeSmile1523 2d ago

Well, given their staunch support of Ukraine...ya know, if the boot fits. That still doesn't make German a nazi language though.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 2d ago

Yep, the irony of supporting a country that is being invaded yet supporting their own country that invaded and caused more harm than good along with now being friendly with Russia

1

u/No-Carpenter-9184 2d ago

Send him a text in the morning saying ‘Sieg Heil’ and say nothing else 😂

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 2d ago

Ha 😂 the irony if he got upset at that

1

u/ButterscotchNo5490 2d ago

“The German language sounds like a typewriter chewing tin foil being kicked down a flight of stairs” - Dylan Moran

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 2d ago

Lmao it’s true it sounds so harsh but so soft at the same time

1

u/Pleasant-Service95 2d ago

I'm french and when I hear German language I immediately imagine the sound of the boots and propaganda sounds

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 2d ago

Immediately replaced the language with ‘Erika’ playing

1

u/ProfessionalIcy8783 2d ago

Your american friend needs to go edumacate himself 🙄🥴

1

u/Sovereignty3 2d ago

In denial that they are infact following a regime that is more close to being a Nazi.

0

u/HashyBrownie123e 2d ago

Exactly. When you try to tell them they won’t accept it and make excuses

1

u/AccomplishedBlood581 2d ago

Based on the text you’ve provided he is so obviously joking why even bother making this a reddit post? I swear are some people allergic to jokes, like you seriously can’t tell that he’s not being serious?

He’s likely saying that to get a reaction out of you, he does not genuinely believe that anyone who speaks German is a nazi.

This is definitely some dare I say “subtle” anti-trump anti-conservative post.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 1d ago

Based on the message you replied with, you didn’t read my post fully. I’m not averse to jokes, infact I do make quite offensive jokes to my close mates but that was just outright completely different which threw me offf.

I don’t think u know him like I do so back down a little. It was unusual for him to say that because he never was against Germany or the language prior to

1

u/AccomplishedBlood581 1d ago

The very first thing I said was “based on the text provided” because yes, I don’t know your mate from a bar of soap, I’m just going based off your comment. And based off of it, it’s nothing to worry about. I have friends that say out of pocket shit all the time, even I do it. Stop taking the world so seriously and lighten up a bit.

Also, like I said, this post is bait. No point trying to have a proper discussion.

1

u/HashyBrownie123e 1d ago

Out of my friend group, I usually say the most out of pocket stuff. However, in that moment it was just kinda stupid for him to say that. It was over text so there’s difficulty to tell the tone so it could’ve been anything. I don’t take everything so serious, why don’t you understand that this was different to what he is normally like?

Your reply is def rage bait. No point in trying to have a proper discussion when you don’t understand what I’m saying.

1

u/AccomplishedBlood581 1d ago

You can’t just repeat pretty much word for word what I said and change it a little bit to sound right. That’s not how it works

1

Haha you’re right, but it’s funny. This is most def not rage bait tho. I don’t know why this in all seriousness made me think about my friendship with this guy compared to to if he had said something else offensive about German

Not saying that you’re rage baiting, I meant that it looked like you were baiting to try and have a discussion about how conservatives suck basically.

Either way I’m glad you seem to understand that it’s not that serious. If he constantly says stuff like that in serious situations then you’d be valid in your concerns. But again, I’m going solely off the text you provided. I don’t know anything about you or your friend.

Have a good rest of your weekend! Or start to your weekend if you’re in the states.

Ahh I see. No I wasn’t trying to get you into a discussion about conservatives sucking lol. I thought you had meant my post was just a bait for people to comment and get interaction.

After thinking about it, I am still confused on whether he was joking or not because again, it was over text. Tone is impossible to detect when it was just the sentence (don’t talk to me in Nazi).

Hey thanks have a good rest of your weekend too!

I mean, technically true? But at the same time, the implication that all German people are Nazi’s simply for speaking the same language as the Nazi’s as if they have any control over where they were born and what language they naturally learned to speak is wildly racist.

Technically true but Germany is very against that kind of stuff it’s a crime to do or say anything pro Nazi. It shocked me because he enjoyed German in school and to be so anti has to be a product of his ignorance and blatant racist views

I’m not white and he never really made racist jokes to me about my race or ethnicity..

Is your friend too stupid to comprehend that the German language existed for centuries prior to the Nazi regime? Also nobody alive today was in the Nazi regime so it's hardly their fault what their forefathers did...

He’s something for sure. I wouldn’t say stupid in all senses but with other cultures…I don’t know if he would accept that the USA has done really terrible things too - Japanese in USA concentration camps, invading middle eastern countries, bombs dropped, all the stuff happening now

Honestly, as someone who has been on the receiving end of this brand of stupidity, your friendship is effectively over.

Your relationship with him is only going to unravel from here while he stacks on more flavours of stupidity, until you'll end up scarcely talking to one another.

We already hardly talk, same with the other members of my friend group with that kind of narrow/right win mindset. I’ve drifted away over a period of a few years that I don’t feel as close to them as I used to. Plus I have a bunch of good international friends who are very much the opposite and intelligent with their worldview

Thats just stupid on so many factors.

First off, the most anti-nazi country i can think of is germany. Anything remotely related to nazism is a crime. Shame there arent laws like this in the US and other countries, but overall, germany is pretty anti-nazi. So calling german a nazi language is just stupid

Also, last time i checked, hitler didnt invent german. So i dont really get what hes talking about

I say just ignore him, avoid fights. You will come across many dipshits in your life, and hes just one of them

Yea the USA allows it on the so called freedom of speech but when it’s something that actually matters like women’s reproductive rights or ethnic genocide then it doesn’t

My grandparents are German they had nothing to do with the war just because you speak German doesn't mean you're a nazi

u/HashyBrownie123e 2d ago

Exactly. The irony is that he learned it too but somehow his view changed from ok it’s a language to you’re a Nazi if u speak German
