Overdone Lost my driver's License. Can't get past this screen because I don't know my license number which was on my DL.

Cops aren't going to ticket you for driving to the DMV to replace a lost license. They technically could, but that's extremely unlikely, even if you did get pulled over

Life pro tip; take a picture of your license. You’ll be surprised how many times you don’t have it and may need it. Granted it’s not the same but you may get a lenient bartender or cop.

You don’t need your ID for the cops, they can just look you up via name and birthday. I’ve been pulled over 5+ times in my ten years driving with no ID never got a ticket

I have most definitely gotten a ticket for not having my license on me while driving - though it was a fix it ticket that was immediately thrown out when I showed up, still an inconvenience.

Maybe it’s because I was young white male living in conservative state but the cops would always just give me a warning about it pretty much all of them would go “the next guy won’t be so nice”, then they always ended up being that nice lol

While no longer young - at the time of said ticket(s) I was a young white male.
I would say that people need to keep in mind that in matters of “law” every officer is going to treat it differently - I most certainly had my share of privilege with speeding tickets and being let off the hook.

I know each state is different but there should be an app that state has that can show your driver license. I know in Louisiana you can download an app with a copy of your license. And order a duplicate from the app. And it also does contain the license number since it has a pic stored of your license.

I have photos of both front and back of my driver's license and passport stored in a folder on my laptop. I've needed both of them at one time or another. I'm kind of scared about leaving them stored on my phone though in case it goes missing.

How often are you moving and changing jobs? For most people, it's a few years, if not decades, between those things.
A lot of places let you use your drivers license instead of your social now. Some require both.

I need my SSN every year when we renew benefits at my job, every two years when I renew my professional license, every year when when I’m doing my taxes, every time I log into check my student loan account. Those are just off the top of my head things I’ve encountered recently. That’s what I meant by individual circumstances.

My state the DL # is 9 digits and a letter. That's not easy to keep off the top of my head.... And I have a CDL and have to enter it a lot. You think I'd remember.
I just keep it in my password manager now.

Mine changed the last time I renewed it. I remember my last one because it was mostly just my last name with a few random letters and numbers. Now it's just 12 completely random letters and numbers.

Make sure your state hasn't changed the number format. Mine did - only noticed it when I needed to grab the license because I couldn't remember the last couple of digits offhand and nope, totally different number.

So you don't have to get your wallet out to fill out forms like this, for one. And for the increasing number of websites that ask you to verify your identity to sign up. Much easier to grab the photos out of my Google Photos than to take new ones each time. I just had to verify my identity to get paid by Etsy as a seller on their marketplace, and I had to verify my identity to be an advertiser on Google Ads; both needed photos of both sides of my license.

Every so often, I take a picture of every card in my wallet in case it gets lost or stolen. That way I'll know what was lost, the phone number needed to cancel every card, and any other information I might need to replace them.

I don't know if it works the same everywhere else, but the last 6 digits of my number is my birthday, so I only have to remember 9 digits, and the rest of them form a word (in 1337, anyway) and a nice pattern.

Every single state is different. In WI, it started with the first letter of my last name and ended with 2 digits related to my birthday, then had like 13 "random" numbers in between.
MN seemingly has no such system and has four 3 digit sections separated by hyphens, plus a random letter at the beginning that has absolutely nothing to do with me in any way.

Don't ask me why, but I memorized mine back in college in the early 1990's. It's never changed so it's burned in my brain forever. Just like my childhood phone number that we had from 1978-1989.

Same. Most people I know that used to pay with checks at stores also did. My mother wrote hers at the top of the checks at the grocery store or in the memo line after a while of shopping at the same place with the same cashiers.

I memorized my DL number. That did bupkiss for me when I lost my license because Texas licenses also have an audit number that is a thousand digits long (not really) and unique. You can bet that I made sure to have a copy of the new license in case I have to go through this again.

My mother repeatedly told me to memorize my DL number as soon as I got one. I don't often need to recall it, but when I do, I am thankful I took her advice.

I'm confused about the "verify my identity using MA Credential" part. Did you select that? Or is that the only option you're given? If you have other options, then... use another one? If not, well you should probably know or have some record of your license somewhere. You've never taken a picture of it with your phone or anything?

This is why I always have a picture of my I.D. on my phone. Another reason is because I've gotten pulled over when I had forgotten my wallet, and the officer happily accepted the photo version as all the information is literally the same, and even if it is expired or revoked they'll still know when they run it, 🤷

I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch last Thursday, but I've had my SSN and DL number memorized since the early 90's.
I also still remember the phone number of the house I grew up in, but couldn't tell you my GF's number if you put a gun to my head.

Not very often anymore. But still on occasion. Applications. Legal documents, etc. Probably as much as I use my social security number. Do you know your SS number? Do you even know your phone number?
Whenever you need 1, you usually need all three. I was taught to memorize it. It’s YOUR IDENTIFICATION number afterall. I got my first ID at 15. Im 35. I would be embarrassed if I didn’t know my number. But that’s just me

You either changed your name or moved states. Some special circumstances. Idk. But it’s a permanent identifier. I guess you get a pass, but for most people it doesn’t change. It just doesn’t change when you renew your license.

It changed once when it went from state ID to learner's permit, and changed the second time when my state re-issued my permit due to a printing error on the first one. I don't know why you're so insistent on this being something I changed.
Edit: and it changed the third time when I upgraded to a RealID.

Not accurate for everyone. My state changed ID numbers a few years ago and it's a different format, no longer containing any portion of your name. I find it harder to memorize with the new format.

That’s only true for people who never move far and reside in a state (or country) where the number hasn’t changed. My current DL is from WA, I’ve had it for about 12 years and they completely changed it halfway through this time. I’ve had three other DLs before that. Admittedly I do still know the number of my very first one, but that’s more because of the way it’s linked to other personal data.

It says you can use a drivers license number, State ID or a permit number. So you have several options.
1) Use one of the other pieces of ID they ask for
2) if you lost your wallet containing all of your ID then start by applying for the State ID again as this one is the easiest to get with the information you will be able to get.

LPT: People, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE memorize your driver's license number. While not as important as say your Social Security number, it is plenty important information. I was completely dumbfounded when my wife told me she didn't know her DL#. From something as simple as filling out forms, to something more serious like getting pulled over when you forget your wallet/purse. Knowing it will only help you.

I have an electronic version of mine on my phone bc my state accepts the e-license. But I also have the # written down in my notes on my phone. I agree it’s important to have the info somewhere for safe-keeping.

Your work most likely made a copy of your driver's license when you were hired, along with writing down the number. Ask HR if they have a copy of that photocopy or the number.
