I have the exact same issue, but my wife always gets the better portions.

Now I send her up to order and I stay out of sight. Now we both get big burritos!

u/AGushingHeadWound 1d ago

It's ok that your wife thinks you have a small burrito.  Don't feel bad.

2.3k

u/BigParaExpert 1d ago

I'm sure it's an average sized burrito

u/Witty-Border-6748 1d ago

Bet that burrito has a great personality

629

u/PacificCastaway 1d ago

It's a perfectly adequate burrito.

257

u/Captain_TPT 1d ago

The big ones hurt anyway.

160

u/PacificCastaway 23h ago

You're supposed to chew it first before you swallow it.

33

u/TemporaryDorito 19h ago

Can occasionally hurt

23

u/you_got_my_belly 12h ago

It’s not how big the burrito is, it’s how you eat it thar matters.

20

Uh, guys? I don't think they're talking about burritos anymore

57

u/SaintAnyanka 1d ago

Just don’t put it in any form of cylinder. I hear it’s hard to get things out of cylinders.

31

u/SamsOnTheInternet 1d ago

Especially when said cylinder is in an m&m tube and must remain unharmed and attached to the larger entity

18

u/SaintAnyanka 22h ago

In no way would it be an alternative to cut open the cylinder to get it out.

And by ”it” I of course mean the burrito.

Dude same, I've stopped going to piadas with my wife because of thsi. Even when I ordered a regular bowl and she'd get a small, I'd magically end up with less food. Meanwhile hers is stacked to the point they can barely close the lid. Now she goes in by herself and I actually get a decent amount of food.

Absolutely

111

u/Affectionate_Item997 22h ago

Yes of course because communism has equality as THE main principle

77

u/Zaev 21h ago

It does, actually. But when the theoretical path to said equality involves a vanguard party taking total power in order to usher in that equality and then relinquishing that power, things tend to get stuck at that first step. Absolute power corrupts absolutely

29

u/Affectionate_Item997 21h ago

Yeah well that's just Marxist theory, which I don't entirely agree with. I used to be a communist, but I think for now we just socialism in the sense of doing stuff either with reforms or possibly a takeover but one that doesn't involve a period of transitional dictatorship. The people should implement equality, not some dictator.

30

u/LittleKobald 20h ago

While Marx at one point did advocate for a transitory state (see Critique of the Gotham Program), the development of a vanguard party to guide a popular revolt was primarily from Lenin. Most of Marx's influential works were a critique of the capitalist political economy.

My brother and I are in our 20s and live at home. Growing up, he always got bigger portions because he would help our dad working on the farm, so he needed the energy. When I got old enough to work on the farm I didn’t get bigger portions. I work somewhere else now, and it’s still a very physical job, but he still gets bigger portions. I work 8h days, and he works 4h split shifts (4h some days and 8h others).

Being a girl is so unfair sometimes lmao

416

u/februarytide- 21h ago

Went to this townie diner with my now husband for breakfast once. It’s worth noting, I LOVE breakfast food, and having breakfast out. I ordered an omelette and a short stack of pancakes that they had on special (blackberry & oat), because it was like 10am and I was starving and also I couldn’t decide between sweet or savory breakfast. I mean, leftovers are great, right?!

The waitress, in her 60s, said, “oh honey, I don’t think you need all that.” My gobsmacked face of astonishment, embarrassment, and rage… thankfully my boyfriend told her I did in fact need all that. Husband material right there, zero missteps made.

225

u/whataboutsam 20h ago

I hate it when random people decide they know you better than you know yourself. Why make assumptions?

81

u/Hot_Aside_4637 16h ago

Do you not make your own plate at this point

121

u/whataboutsam 22h ago

I do, but portions of meat are given out by my mom so that my dad doesn’t take too much of the protein. My dad and brother get bigger portions of protein, my mom and I get smaller. She’s a SAHM and isn’t super active. I have a very physical job 🤷🏼‍♀️

60

u/ReddKermit 20h ago

Have you tried explaining that to her? Worst case scenario just buy some protein powder and make shakes or something to supplement the additional protein you likely need.

66

u/whataboutsam 19h ago

Hard to explain stuff like that in my family. They love being combative even when they’re wrong, and they know they’re wrong.

Damn, I feel like there’s a lot to explore that your mom has to serve meat otherwise your dad will take an amount unfair to his family.

36

u/Bluevisser 16h ago

Once as a child, I asked for hamburgers for my celebration meal as I won a state award. My mother had the butcher grind a pricey cut of beef to make 4 high quality burgers. Dad grabbed 3, leaving my mom, brother and I to split 1. Which means my brother actually got it as he was the baby and there was nothing else his picky self would eat. It has been twenty five years and I still haven't forgiven my father for that level of petty selfishness.

22

u/FauxRealsies 14h ago

I can't even conceive of eating three burgers in front of family members who have zero.

I wouldn't be surprised if you all stopped having nice things. Figuring that if the meals are just above garbage level maybe your dad would allow others to partake in the near trash.

Jesus I am so mad for you right now.

Just wait until the change in metabolism Hits him. Then you’ll see who laughs at last.

38

u/Hi_Jynx 21h ago

This is over hyped. The metabolism only slightly slows down because of age - it is mostly a more sedentary lifestyle and loss of muscle mass that causes people to gain significant weight in their middle age. I mean, it actively becomes harder to maintain physical fitness with age so it makes sense, but it is just that which causes the slow down and not a magic crash in your 40s.

151

u/Captain_coffee_ 23h ago

Your metabolism actually only starts slowing down at the age of ~60. The "change in metabolism" is just sedentary lifestyle, stress and lack of sleep

120

My mom would give my brother bigger portions because he was “a growing boy” except I was a teenager playing sports and he was 8 years old. Needless to say, that’s one more piece of proof that she hated me for whatever reason and absolutely adores my brother.

52

u/canadianboi421 21h ago

I had that happen to me too except I an a boy with a small appetite, so I literally can not finish all of the food given to me(I was 9, in a summer camp of sorts, it was in China), I still remember being punished by my instructor because I couldn’t finish all of the food and thus wasted it, I was told to just tell the lunch lady that I don’t want that much food, so I did the next day and guess what, the lunch lady put even more food on my plate and said basically the same thing, that I an a growing boy…I remember those days vividly

21

u/Chickencaca 21h ago

That’s ridiculous omg

23

u/canadianboi421 21h ago

Yeah its frustrating, there’s also the case of milk, because I am lactose intolerant, I didn’t know that back then, and so when the breakfast includes milk I drink it, but then when I have stomachaches because of it, I get verbally berated for having stomach issues.

141

u/Independent_Job_2244 1d ago

At a school I attended the cafeteria ladies (all lovely African ladies) used to give tiny sausages to the white boys and large sausages to the African boys and laugh uproariously each time.

92

u/sohereiamacrazyalien 22h ago edited 10h ago

why not complain about it and make them redo it; so it won't happen to other people too?

edit: don't get hung up about the word complain, I just meant speak up , say something, not be an ass and blow it out of proportion.

67

u/alleswaswar 15h ago

I’m a small woman and frequently see that my portion is smaller than the portion of the random dude in line in front of me, scooped by the same worker. It’s noticeable immediately with the rice. I’ve never complained, I usually just politely ask if they could add a bit more and that seems to help “reset” their mindset re: portion sizes and the rest of the scoops aren’t puny lol

9

u/sohereiamacrazyalien 10h ago

when I say complain I don't mean be mean about it or call a manager or whatever, I mean speak up. I'd at least ask why they give me less and ask for more .

I wonder what their actual body size is. If OP's bf is huge compared to her and they auto-assume he needs to eat big lol

592

u/edotman 1d ago

I'm a pretty big guy who lifts weights and often end up with a bigger portion given to me when I'm being served. I think its a sub conscious thing.

298

u/godtogblandet 1d ago

Might be that they just think you need more food. That's what I used to assume. Then my girlfriend pointed out that I love food too much and keep stairing at them while they make the food. I have now started wondering if it's more a case of "This massive fucking dude is eyeballing me to make sure I don't short him", lol.

89

u/College_Throwaway002 1d ago

I have now started wondering if it's more a case of "This massive fucking dude is eyeballing me to make sure I don't short him", lol.

2.2k

u/Nozzeh06 1d ago edited 1d ago

This happens at the grocery store I work at. I'll buy a ham and cheese sandwhich and some days it'll have 5 slices of ham and 3 slices of cheese, and other days it will have 1 slice of ham and 1 slice of cheese that only covers half the sandwhich. Depends whos making the sandwhiches. Still $5 regardless.

656

u/SaltyStatistician 1d ago

I used to live a few blocks from a Casey's and would walk over during my lunch break to get a slice or two of pizza. Whether I got one slice or two was dependent on who I saw behind the food counter. The difference in quality was insane.

381

u/Nahsungminy 1d ago

It be like that. The guy who doesn’t make it as good can work 5-7 days a week, and can cover anybody. The person who makes the best pizza, roll, steak whatever, can only work 1-3 days a week, but can not cover anybody. They working at a better restaurant on the other 4-6 days 😩

My local hospital has these absolutely amazing breakfast burritos but sometimes they'll be like the size of a 16oz water bottle and sometimes it'll be like there was someone standing over their shoulder going "1tbsp of egg, 1tbsp of cheese, 1 tbsp of potatoes ONLY!" and what you get is the saddest fucking looking burrito ever.

106

u/John_Northmont 1d ago

"From now on, I want you to put an equal amount of blueberries in each muffin. An equal amount of blueberries in each muffin."

"Do you know how long that's going to take?"

"I don't care how long it takes. Put an equal amount in each muffin."

111

u/PsychicNinja_ 1d ago

There are standards for this reason - it’s annoying when someone barely gives you anything but you pay the full price. Guarantee these places have, what we call at my store, a build sheet that tells them exactly they need to use and people don’t care or are badly trained.

For example, we just started selling cobblers, and we’re supposed to use 7oz of batter and then 4oz of the topping and some amount of streusel (the one thing we don’t care about measuring). Where I work there is a build sheet for literally everything. I don’t know where this quote comes from, but it really doesn’t take much longer to follow the protocol, it can just be more tedious sometimes.

41

u/Giraffe-colour 1d ago

My guess is it’s more a wrapping thing more than anything. I’ve had the exact same order as my BF before, literally watched them get made, and how tightly it was wrapped was the only difference. Some people just have a good wrap day and that makes burritos look smaller even if it’s loaded to an equal extent

13

u/jimmy_speed 1d ago

When I worked at Jack's I would like to add extra cheese and patties to the burgers depending on which manager was there and blame them for not training me when I got caught lol

Corporate/higher ups will burn your ass if your too liberal with what you put on orders, so less about the worker and more about management normally.

23

u/Wallys_Wild_West 1d ago

I experienced that with a government job. I spent a few summers working for Cadets as a student and we would sell treats to them. I would always fill the popcorn to the brim whereas my boss would only fill it 1/3( it was a huge rip off). She would get mad at me when she was around but ultimately did nothing. It was a nonsensical policy because popcorn is dirt cheap to the point where the employees were allowed to eat as much of it as they wanted( that was basically the policy on any food or drinks that weren't candy bars) but she was still out here nickel and diming children.

8

u/Bezulba 1d ago

It's like the fries at Mickey D... i filled them fuckers, yet some managers were being stingy little cunts. It would cost the restaurant maybe 5cents more. The time spend he'd bitch about it would be more expensive, but nooo, value for money was not a thing....

5

u/Emerno 1d ago

Yep, was being served by a trainee at a fast food place nearby and the manager saw she was 'overserving' a bit so he had her remove from my plate right in front of us. Never went back.

u/Green-Measurement-53 1d ago

Right, I don’t understand how that one is considered desirable, it’s far too big to be enjoyable

Was this a mobile order, because how did you leave the store like that?

27

u/pablas 1d ago

They should have taken them and make new ones equal smaller for lolz

u/MajorGiggles 1d ago

Haha - redditors resolving problems like normal human beings!

why solve a problem in person when you can go home and bitch about it on the internet. it's a classic.

Ya, literally just ask for more. If you let them roll it up then you are fine with the amount

88

u/camoure 1d ago

I woulda literally looked confused and asked the employee “why are these different?”

I’ve been advocating against sexism in the burrito industry for years now. Probably gonna write a book.

206

u/soyboysnowflake 1d ago

Did you guys order with similar cadence?

I ask because I’ve realized if I’m like “just rice and meat” then “oh and also…” they’re more likely to make it huge because they don’t realize more ingredients are coming lol

76

u/CommercialFarm1182 1d ago

That's diabolical.

87

u/BeaverBumper 1d ago

Fat people cheats. Only ask for double meat after they've provided the first portion.

Tell your boyfriend that size DOES matter.

26

u/Jonas_Venture_Sr 1d ago

Boyfriend agrees that size does matter, that's why he called ahead to make sure the GF's burrito was smaller.

I've seen this happen before. Normally, the first one they make, they realize they overstuff it so the second one, they pullback and you get this. Happens with food bowls too.

89

u/FkNgCrAzY1982 1d ago

Chipotle be like that sometimes.

49

u/Moron-Whisperer 1d ago

Chipotle?  Those both look too big to be Chipotle unless they paid extra

35

u/Ecstatic-Pepper-6834 1d ago

dammit I miss og chipotle, like circa 2005 2006 chipotle was incredible. Freshman year, the very first chipotle was opening in missouri, at mizzou. I drove 5 of us (at least, hard to remember) from St. Louis for the soft open because they were giving away free burritos. I think I ate 2 there and brought another home, and next door was a krispy kreme I think so we brought as much back as we could.

In retrospect we probably shouldn't have driven back and it's a miracle any of us still have colons.

9

u/Homers_Harp 1d ago

I went to the first Chipotle the week it opened. The hot salsa was actually hot, they properly smooshed the burritos to mix the contents better, and nobody bitched that the queso was better at some other place. But I'm pretty sure the burritos were the same, variable size range they are today.

My GF and I noticed this too at our local Chipotle, and we ordered online, but hers was always considerably smaller because (we assume) we used her name for her burrito. We started labeling hers with her brothers name instead and it stopped. 🤦🏻‍♂️

12

u/SnowHunter9000 1d ago

The way I would go back up with both burritos and receipts and make them remake my order.

You vs the burrito she tells you not to worry about

9

u/EllyBellyJellyJar 1d ago

what are you talking about, yours is the one on the right.. obviously 😂

133

u/FendiRazor 1d ago

i wonder if this is coincidence or if management has been told to skimp on women for some fucked up phsycological reason.

edit: in order to save money on ingredients**, not as a way of phsycological warfare via burrito size lol.

Maybe the server was a woman and thought your bf was cute

Or they were a guy biased into giving other guys bigger portions

Or they're like me and absolutely terrible at consistently measuring out the same amount of filling in a burrito

7

u/Top_Associate_1481 1d ago

They do this with me at edo all the time 🥲 my boyfriend gets a larger portion than I do. Lol

8

u/Solid_Interaction474 22h ago

this is either sexism or some sloppy inconsistent burrito making either way I would not be coming back

13

u/lobotomy4free 1d ago

That’s so annoying! It happened to me at a pancheros too! I’m 5’0 and my bf is 6’6 and they made my burrito normal and his was massive😒

30

u/iDontRememberCorn 1d ago

what the hell shape burrito is this?

6

The trick is to drift your eyes between the fillings being loaded and making eye contact with the loader, while slowly nodding and gently licking your lips.

6

u/owo1215 10h ago

ok the "girls wants big burritos too" is funny ngl

19

u/Viatrixin 1d ago

I’ve been given small burritos MANY a time as a 5’ tall woman 😒

8

u/Due-Door4885 1d ago

There should be a burrito size law set by the government.

6

u/ZarquonsFlatTire 1d ago

Yeah but yours was made with love. Which doesn't have a nutritional value.

Or a belly-ful one either.

5

u/DontcallmeArchie 1d ago

I see it all the time, order fries as a side and I get maybe 7, my children get heaping piles.
