They're literally participation trophies

To be fair every trophy is a participation trophy. Even winning the Super Bowl is just getting a participation trophy. You just happened to be the best at participating.

Which dumbass thought Reddit needed fucking achievements in the first place? (I hate these as well)

exactly my point, reddit isn't a game it's a social media site

Nah lowkey I get it, it is quite annoying and useless, I don’t need a notification achievement for every fucking time I comment in a new sub

Gamification in general is infuriating.
I had this at the gym: monitors tracking your progress is one thing. But when they dictate the exact speed it basically forces me (with so-called penalties on progress) to concentrate on that screen and not on my exercise or breathing. A total distraction, best to cover it up.

Howzabout going to settings then notifications then achievement updates turned off? Or go to old reddit dot com? Don't blow a gasket here.

So disable them? It’s not hard.

~Gameification~ is the hot thing to do to your website nowadays. Theyre too cowardly/stupid to do anything actually fun so we get this crap.

Can't decide if you're trolling or need therapy lol

u/Euphoric-Slide-1568 9h ago

With omori fans it's probably both

4

u/omoriobsessedmf 9h ago

well i know i need therapy but i'm not trolling, these notifs have been consistently annoying me since they got added

2

u/Euphoric-Slide-1568 9h ago

Same lol, they ARE pretty annoying.

im just sick of these notifications tricking me into thinking someone replied or something, there are so many better ways to display an achievement besides a notification that's displayed identically to every other notification

You can switch the achievement notifications off. Saves you one mild annoyance with a single click. I also don't understand the purpose of these achievements. I understand what they try to evoke: engagement and gamification etc. But I'm not sure they make much sense on reddit in the way they are implemented.

Reddit isn't that serious bro.

6

u/omoriobsessedmf 9h ago

yea but i'm still allowed to get annoyed over these things :/

I feel their pain, it's genuine.

it is infuriating tho, i rarely get notifs so seeing one makes me interested and it pisses me off when it's just some achievement i don't care about :/

To be fair, this is the mildly sub. If anyone is exaggerating and blowing something out of proportion, it seems to be you.
